Crawford University is owned by the Apostolic Faith Mission. In 1944, The Church came into Africa. A branch of the Church was founded in Lagos Nigeria by late Reverend Timothy Gbadebo Oshokoya, who was referred to as Superintendent for Africa. He passed on to Glory after several years of faithful service and taking the Word through the Church to various parts of Africa on 16th November, 1983 and was succeeded by Rev. Josiah Olubode Soyinka.
Reverend Josiah Olubode Soyinka carried the Mantle in faith and continued in the footsteps of his successor till he was called to meet the Lord on 4th September, 1999. He was succeeded by Reverend Paul Ogechukwu Akazue.
Reverend Paul Ogechukwu Akazue was introduced as the new Africa Overseer on 3rd October, 1999. The Church continued to grow, under his leadership, the first website of the Church was created as well as the first broadcast service was aired in Lagos, Nigeria in 2003. He was the proprietor of Crawford University. He was called to Glory on 7, May 2010
The Church saw an opportunity in Nigeria to participate in the upgrading of educational standards in the country; they took it and this led to the establishment of Crawford University. The school is an attempt by the Church to produce creative graduates with moral excellence, self-confidence, inventive dynamism, God fearing professionals in the society today. The Church is of the opinion that through this medium, unemployment will be eradicated in the country because it hopes to provide graduates who will bring solutions to problems in the nation especially in the aspect of job creation to ascertain wealth in the Nation.
On 9th June, 2005, Crawford University received the operating license from the Federal Government of Nigeria. The first matriculation held by the institution was on 20th December, 2015, with two hundred and thirty five students in attendance. Reverend Paul Ogechukwu Akazue the proprietor of the institution was the first installed Chancellor and Professor M.T. Ige, the first Vice Chancellor. Chief Oludolapo Ibukun Akingube became the second chancellor and Professor Samson Adenola Ayanlaja the Vice Chancellor in 2010. In 2015, Reverend Emmanuel Adebayo Adeniran became the Chancellor and Prof Isaac Rotimi Ajayi the Vice Chancellor; they maintain the position till date.
Crawford University is located in Faith City, Igbesa, Ogun State, Nigeria. ‘Knowledge with Godliness’ is the motto of the institution. The institution aspires to be a Centre of Excellence; producing graduates with a well-balanced education and its mission is to be an International Institution of Higher Learning with enviable standards of teaching and research.
‘The logo of the University is an open book, on an oval pedestal with a torch enclosed in a blue circle. A banner strip ties all the symbols together. The open book symbolizes knowledge. The torch depicts light for spiritual guidance. The oval represents the divine presence of God. The green banner symbolizes the fertile land of Nigeria, the hope of the future and prosperity’.
The University currently has eighteen programs all accredited by the National Universities Commission. All programs are housed in two Colleges: College of Natural and Applied Sciences and College of Business and Social Sciences. The school has been producing graduates and is still producing eligible graduates.
The school serenity is calm and enhances learning without distractions for the student. It is a popular university that holds their belief strongly, they have very disciplined students and qualified lecturers.
