Happy New Year 2021; it’s another Friday to explore the world of children’s fashion.
Have you noticed the latest trend of parents rocking matching outfits with their little ones?
Fashion Designers are maximizing their profit margin because for every new adult trend, there is a mini version in the children’s department. Matching outfits look absolutely breath taking with most fashion-conscious parents wanting to turn their children into exact replicas of themselves. However, there is a note to Christian parents:
“Don’t leave your children (male and female) unattended to. Don’t dress them inappropriately either, robbing them of their childhood and exposing them to predators. Parents teach and encourage your children to dress modestly and neatly. God will hold you accountable for the way you raise the children he has given you.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6”- Pastor David Ibiyeomie
To enable your child shine as little prince/princess, there are tips to consider when shopping for them:
- Simple: It is important to choose comfort over style, allow children to be children. When picking a comfortable and fashionable outfit for your child, ask yourself if your child can:
- Climb, run or sit properly.
- Go to the potty without risks of potential embarrassments i.e urinating on their outfits as a result of the complexity in their outfits.
Avoid dresses, shirts, and other clothes that your child may need extra assistance to put on or remove.
- Pick one size larger: Children grow fast, so keep that in mind especially when there is no sibling to hand them down to.
- Colourful outfits: Colours are fun and most children love a wide variety of colours. You can also buy them outfits with their favourite cartoon characters or their favourite colour.
- Use of accessories: This is the use of hats, scarves, watches, bracelets or other stylish accessories. However, never accessorize very small children with something they might swallow, like beads, bracelets.
- Avoid overindulgence: As earlier mentioned, it is easy for parents to overdo it while styling their children. Overindulgence is not just a costly mistake, evidence exists that it can actually affect your children.
In conclusion, let’s remember this when we are dressing up our little girls as Pastor David Ibiyeomie pointed out recently:
“Parents, stop wearing your children big wigs. Allow them to be children. When they get to the University…stop wearing a girl who is in Sunday School one big wig, you’ll make a big man look for her. She is still very young, dress her for her age. When you over dress a girl, you are looking for trouble. She is a female. Don’t dress a girl who is in S.S.1 with big wig: it’s not fashion, it’s not because you have money, you are exposing that girl to danger. Allow her grow, when she gets to that time, she can wear the wig. Stop wearing wigs over children who are 13, you are now saying, “I like her to look good.” You are also men to look ‘good’. Allow the men to know this is a child: don’t make her look like an adult. Some of the problems, we cause them.”
