“Of a truth, most times we don’t appreciate what we have till we experience the impact of its absence. In Dental class, I saw pictures of different anomalies, most of which were congenital (from birth) and all I kept on saying was ‘Thank You Lord.
The more I learn about different medical conditions, the thankful I am for God’s faithfulness over me and my family.”
These were the words of Emmanuela nee Evbuoma as a medical student at University of Ibadan in 2013, little did she know that God had other plans for her than medical practice. Born as a twin on 14th August to the family of Mr Gabriel and Mrs Kike Evbuoma, the only girl of four children. The number 14 is quite significant in her family as her parents got married on 14th February 1987. She is from Edo State, Nigeria but grew up in South West Nigeria, mostly in Ibadan, Nigeria. She completed her secondary school education in 2009 at Maverick College, Ibadan, before proceeding to study Medicine and Surgery at University of Ibadan and graduated in 2016.
She has always been passionate about God and always seek for opportunities to reach out to young people with the gospel. In the University, despite her busy schedule, she was the Evangelism Secretary, attended Christian Medical conferences and was involved in sharing God’s word with secondary school students. However, God had a different pathway for her which she discovered after watching a Mount Zion Film titled ‘Ignition’ in 2016 and decided to register at the Drama Institute in 2016, the November edition after her final medical exams.
This singular act did not only open her destiny to a new chapter, she also got married to her lecturer whom she had always admired from a distance and appreciated God’s gift in his life.
In her words, “I had always admired his work from afar. I fell in love with one of the movies he did, ‘Ignition’ because it ministered deeply to me. I must have watched it over 20 times. It always brought hope and comfort every time I watched it because of the break-up I had just experienced around the time the movie was released.
When I finally met him at the Mount Zion Institute a few months later when he came to teach us, I had a hard time believing my eyes. That the same person I always watched on TV was before me giving a lecture. I liked what I saw: a handsome, God fearing young man who taught with so much grace.”
She got married to Damilola Mike-Bamiloye on 10th November 2018 and the union is blessed with a daughter, Gloria Oluwasemilogo.
She spends most of her time juggling motherhood, script writing, acting, relationship and health talks on various social media handles including YouTube, Telegram, Instagram and Facebook. Due to her openness about her past relationships from ‘Receiving a brother from God while the brother just wanted a platonic friendship’ to when she almost jumped into a relationship in her final year because her room mate was engaged and she wasn’t, she is gradually influencing young people to develop the right attitude while they wait on God. In February 2021, she celebrated 100,000 followers on Instagram.
“I want to encourage someone somewhere to have the right attitude during your waiting period. When God shows up with the answer to your prayers, you want to be able to look back and say, ‘I’m glad I waited patiently’ not ‘I wish I had trusted God and wasn’t anxious.’ May God help us while we wait for our heart’s desires in Jesus name.”
