SUCCESS SATURDAY FUNKE FELIX – ADEJUMO

“When I was born, people cried for my father because they expected that my mother would deliver a boy having welcomed two girls earlier. When it was time to send me to school, they told my father not to waste his money because I would end up pregnant. Afterwards, my brother became sick. For six years, my dad suffered a lot; he sold most of his belongings. We sold all the plates in the house to buy drugs for my brother. My mother would pound cocoyam and put it in my palms. That was where I fed from”.
I hawked so much that I still have a scar at the centre of my head to show for it. We remained like that for many years but I always had it at the back of my mind that I would become great one day. I didn’t know how I would achieve it, but I knew I would be the one to help my family. I thank God that He heard my cry”.

Funke Felix-Adejumo is a Philanthropist, Teacher, Author, Mentor, Marriage Counsellor, Conference Speaker, President of Funke Felix-Adejumo Foundation and Co-founder of Agape Christian Ministries.

She was born on the 28th of January, 1963 in Ibadan, Oyo State. After two girls, it was expected that her mother will give birth to a male child. Her father was told not to send her to school because a female child would always end up pregnant, cannot be successful and would bear another man’s name later on.
While growing up, she experienced financial difficulties especially when her brother became sick. Her father and mother did all they could, even going as far as selling their properties including all the plates in the house to cater for her brother and at the same, the family. Funke was feeding from her palms. Despite the circumstances, she managed to attend a Primary and Secondary School in Ibadan but was sometimes absent from school due to financial difficulties. Her father took on menial jobs to cover her fees. In spite of all the hardship, she was focused and was referred to as an outstanding student. She even became the Senior Prefect. Funke managed to graduate from school.

At age 14, she gave her life to Christ. She revealed that from that moment, her life took a new turn and started getting better. She managed to sponsor herself through the University, with the assistance of her fiance, Felix Remi Adejumo (now husband) who she met at Ibadan in 1982. She is a graduate of English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She and her husband got married on September 8th, 1984.

After marriage, her husband, Felix got a call from God to start a ministry in Ondo State. They founded Agape Christian Ministries which started in a living room with four people. The number of people increased and they had to get another venue. On August 7, 1988, the church began at Victory Nursery School, Akure. Today, Agape Christian Ministries is a large ministry with more than 30 branches all across Nigeria.

She owes her drive and success in life to her late father’s prodding. In her words, “my dad was my hero. He was such a religious man. My father was extremely proud of me and up until when he died, he prayed for me every morning,’’.

Funke Felix – Adejumo is known as a philanthropist. She is the President of the Funke Felix Adejumo Foundation (FFAF), a non governmental organisation that help women financially. She revealed that she set up the foundation to help women who lived in poverty like she once did. She said, “We are grateful that the Lord could trust us with so much in terms of touching lives. After paying the school fees of some children and seeing their mothers roll on the floor as a show of gratitude, I shed tears. This is because I remember when I couldn’t go to school for two weeks because my parents couldn’t afford to pay my tuition which was N18″
She revealed that she prefered paying the school fees of children than stucking her wardrobe with designers. She also runs an Orphanage known as Grace Orphanage; a home for the abandoned, abused and orphaned children. The Grace Orphanage till date has nurtured many children and rescued several abandoned ones. She and her husband, Felix Adejumo also built a Children’s hospital in 2003. She also started an initiative known as “Another Chance Women Home”, which provides a safe haven and support for women who are domestically abused. In 2015, she started the “Women on the Winning Edge Conference”; a conference which holds to help raise Godly women who will build good homes, raise Godly children, be wealthy, and stand toe to toe with other women of various cadres without denying the faith. The single ladies are not left out. She holds the Singles’ Summit, a program designed for singles. Matters discussed at the summit include career development, ministry, personal goals and marriage. Adejumo also trains women at Local and International conferences on how to function better in life, career and marriage.

She is an author of over 50 books. Some of them include “Just a drop of grace”, “My seed is designed for the palace”, “If not for God – Fifty lessons that life taught me”, “My seed is a champion”, “Free to be me”, “Celebrate”, “Life made easy”, “Keeper of the flame”, “Christian Courtship”, “Beauty for Ashes”, “Aspire”, “Dominion Mandate”, “Every Minister”, etc. In 2017, she won the Salt and Light Award from Awesome Treasures Foundation (ATF). Faith University in conjunction with Oral Robert’s University also honoured Funke and her husband with doctorate degrees (Honoras Causa) in Divinity.

Together, Funke and Felix Adejumo have four biological children (two boys and two gіrls), along with several adopted children, and all those already have children of their own.

From a little girl who struggled financially to a woman who became a blessing to others, Funke Felix-Adejumo has proven that we can fulfil purpose and rise against all odds by believing in God and ourselves and not allowing our background keep our backs on the ground.
