Psalm 92:1-2. This morning, I want to speak very briefly on the Value of Thanksgiving. Our objective is to understand both the value and the virtue of Thanksgiving.
One of the most scarce virtues in the earth today is the virtue of Thanksgiving and it is a sign of the endtime. 2 Timothy 3:1-2. Unthankfulness, ingratitude is a sign of the endtime. Church Gist. God is doing things for people, they’re not thanking, wives are doing things for husbands, they’re not thanking, husbands are doing things for wives, it doesn’t matter, parents are doing things for children, no appreciation, “it’s my right for him to pay my school fees and to give me my pocket money”, children are doing things for parents, no appreciation, “he’s my child, he’s meant to do that”. Church Gist. It’s a plague of the last days and many people as we have said many things take this thing before God. The question is, why is unthankfulness such a challenge especially towards the endtime? Why is there so much problem with inability to say thank you to God? I gave four reasons, now, I will give two in this service.
- It’s an agenda of the devil to rob people of the value and virtue of Thanksgiving because we know that the devil is the thief that comes to steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10.
- It is the plague of human self-sufficiency and independence of God that is characteristic of the endtime. Where human beings behave like they can do without God. “They shall be lovers of themselves, they shall be ungrateful”. Church Gist. 2 Timothy 3:2. Where people think that without God they can do and survive, they can fare well without God but that is the lie of the devil.
What value does Thanksgiving hold? What virtue does thanksgiving hold?
- Thanksgiving grants access to good. Psalm 92:1. Church Gist. Thanksgiving gives us the access to experience the goodness of God.
- Thanksgiving provokes the unction for multiplication. Church Gist. Everything multiplies around the life of the grateful. Jeremiah 30:19-22.
- Thanksgiving is a way of glorification. “and I will glorify them and they shall not be small”. The meaning of that is your Thanksgiving to God will establish in you the glory and delete the shame. Church Gist. It will establish God’s glory in your life and delete or wipe out the shame. Jeremiah 30:19.
- Thanksgiving will activate the punishment of the oppressor. “I will punish all those who oppress them” – Jeremiah 30:20. Church Gist. If a man knows how to thank God and you try to oppress him, you’re looking for the punishment of God.
- Thanksgiving places on people the seal of nobility and greatness. Jeremiah 30:21. Church Gist. When you know how to give God thanks, you receive a seal of greatness. So, it doesn’t matter what the devil wants to do with your life, even if the devil wants to render you little or small, your Thanksgiving places upon you the seal of greatness and nobleness.
- Thanksgiving grants the privilege of closeness and intimacy with God. Jeremiah 30:21. Church Gist. “If you know how to give me thanks and you know how to give me praise, I will draw and pull you close”. Not everybody is at the same level of closeness with God.
So, you can see all that the devil tries to deprive people when he makes them ungrateful, murmur, grumble and quarrel with God.
- Thanksgiving places on people the seal of Divine ownership. Jeremiah 30:22. Anywhere you step into, wherever people see you, there’s something about you that shows that this man, this woman belongs to God.
- I prophesy to someone here this morning, I decree today, the seal of Divine ownership shall be found on your life at the end of today’s thanksgiving!
- I prophesy a new level of intimacy with God. I prophesy greatness, nobility in the name of Jesus!
- every oppressor, anyone who will not let you rest, as we give God the thanks today, they shall experience their punishment!
- every trace of shame, reproach and disgrace today shall be wiped out by your Thanksgiving
- Whatever is drying up around you and decreasing around you, I declare multiplication today!
- whatever is called evil, dissolves, disappears and disintegrates from your life today!
- shout the loudest Amen.
What is our focus for Thanksgiving
- The gift of life. The fact that you have your breath is something good enough. Psalm 150:6.
- For the frustration of the plans of the enemy. Job 5:12. Isaiah 44:25. Now listen to this, there are many things God frustrated that we are not aware of. Church Gist. What you call the little accident was meant to have been death but you never knew, it’s when you get to heaven that you will know that that break failure wasn’t meant to be the damage of the car, it was meant to be the damage of the life. If we know more, we will thank more. The reason why we don’t thank enough is because we don’t know enough. That’s why it is good to thank generally because we don’t know many things. Church Gist. That thing you drank that made your tommy to run was probably meant to take your life and God did not allow it.
- I announce to you today, every agenda of the enemy regarding your life today, they are frustrated!
- every current plan of hell, today, I declare them terminated!
- For what He did for us the Past. Psalm 103:1-5. For what God did for you in the time past, you appreciate Him. How many of you have been saved before from death? You know it could have been death it not for God. Church Gist. I’m not talking of the one you don’t know, the one you know. The devil organized some shame for you but it didn’t happen. How many of your have been in that situation?
- give the Lord a big clap of praise
- For what God is doing now that you are not aware of. Ephesians 3:20. There are things that are beyond your imagination that God is doing now. Church Gist. Beyond human visibility, there’s always Divine activity. In the realm where you see nothing, something is happening that you’re not aware.
We arrived at one country one day and just before we stepped out of the aircraft, (you know there are places where they will just delay you), I said, “Lord, I don’t want any delay here, I want to cross straight”. As we stepped out of the door of the aircraft, somebody was standing with our name at the foot of the aircraft. Church Gist. He carried us, walked us and came they put the (immigration barricade), opened it, passed us by, and moved. Everybody was on the line, queuing and standing. In that aircraft, maybe there was 98% ‘oyibo’ and ‘oyibo’ person carried an African man, his wife and daughter and passes everybody. Church Gist. We were praying the prayer too late, it was answered before we prayed. We arrived in Israel, the same thing. I wrote it down in my book, I said that, “there are prayers we pray that were answered before the prayer”.
- you will soon experience those kind of answers.
There are things He’s doing now in your life that you’re not even aware of at all and the more you appreciate God for such things, they more they manifest for you.
- I announce to you today, in the name that is above every name, you shall experience the manifestation of such answers!
- For what He is yet but sure to do. Why do we say sure to do? Because He promised in His Word that He’s not a man to lie. Church Gist. You’re not yet married, He’s sure to do it. You’re trusting God for the fruit of the womb, he may not have done it yet but He’s sure to do them. Romans 4:20.
How many of us are ready to thank and praise God this morning? Church Gist. Stand on your feet with a shout of praise!

There was something that troubled me yesterday, the news about “Christians are now minority in the United Kingdom”. This is John Wesley’s United Kingdom, this is Charles Spurgeon’s United Kingdom, Smith Wigglesworth’s United Kingdom, John Knox, all of them. Church Gist. The King of England was the spiritual head of the Church. England Christianized the world like America. For it to be taken over by anything is rejected.
- Father, let the wells of revival be redug back in England. Let the fire of John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon, Evan Roberts return.
- Father, we ask for revival in England, in the United Kingdom. In the name of Jesus, let your glory fill that land. England shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the seas.
