In a conversation with a student from Mountain Top University, she said
“I would rate my school an 85℅ for spirituality. When you say you want to be a student of MTU, you’d make up your mind to spend four to five years without problems because the rules are very strict. You don’t want to have a warning letter, if you have a warning letter like three times, the next thing is rustication. If you miss chapel devotion by 6am you’d have a warning letter.
You have to be in your room for head count which is done everyday”.
MTU is a Christian private school founded by Dr. Daniel Kolawale Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM). It is located in Ogun State, Nigeria. MTU’s current Vice Chanceller is Professor Elijah A. Ayolabi.
The University operates with the concept of developing the total man and this is encapsulated in the training of body, mind and spirit, hence the strong spiritual foundation for students at MTU. Guided by a sound vision and mission, her core values are; Excellence, Integrity and Skills.
MTU has the College of Humanities, Management and Social Sciences and College of Basic Applied Sciences with various departments in the respective colleges. Admission into MTU doesn’t seem to pose a great challenge as entry for the last session 2019/2020 had up to the eleventh admission list, although one has to meet the necessary admission requirements.
The school has great facilities like the Health Centre, Centre of Excellence in Music, Centre for Research, Innovation and Collaboration, Centre for Information, Communication and Technology and Centre for Continuing Education.
One of the great perks of schooling at MTU asides discipline and spirituality is the openness to international students application and enrollment, thereby creating opportunity for students to interact and gain global connection and relevance.
Stemming from the conception most people hold about the high school fee rate of some Christian private schools, the MTU student holds her opinion about her school’s fair fees, rated at five hundred and twenty thousand naira which differs by department as some pay four hundred and fifty thousand naira. She speaks on discipline when it concerns dressing or fashion generally and emphasizes on holiness within and without. Listing a number of good things she loves about her school, she wishes the management of the school would greatly improve than where it currently is.
On employability, this is what she had to say
“My school holds Bi-annual lectures where they bring people from reputable companies even outside the country to come and talk to us. I can’t count the number of times we’ve had those kind of lectures. It is true that you can get a job during this period. Some people have opportunities to do their I.T at these companies”.
She went further by referring to a statement by the Chancellor, Dr. Daniel Kolawale Olukoya
“My G.O said something ‘If you don’t get a Job with your certificate, you should be an employer of labour with your skills, with the entrepreneurial skills you’ve learnt’. In the educational aspect, my school wants you to be all round. There are different entrepreneurial skills you have to learn, you choose one. In my year two I learnt event planning, in my year three, I learnt catering, in my year four, I learnt photography. Before you graduate, you are expected to learn at least one musical instrument. We also undergo professional exams to have higher chances of getting jobs”.
MTU is advancing with technology and the current times. In the heat of the pandemic situation, it has joined other advanced organizations to hold virtual classes and conduct continuous assessments for her students.
Overall, Mountain Top University is a great school to consider because the educational standard is applaudable and Christ is the centre of all affairs. To add to her record of excellence, the Geoscience students of MTU emerged second in the just concluded Africa Final round of Imperial Barrel Award (IBA).
