‘The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’
1 Kings 18:36
In the olden days, people were afraid to call God by His name, His name was so precious and fearful, people found it difficult to call Him by His name, so they looked for alternatives and one of the alternatives is to call him God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Here we find Elijah
You don’t just go to God and begin to command Him without worshipping Him. You have to eulogize him. The Bible says you enter His court with praises. Elijah presented his prayer by starting with Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel.
WHO IS THE GOD OF ABRAHAM?
- Genesis 12:1-3, you will notice that He is a God of choice. God just picked Abraham. God just said to Abraham, of all the people here, I have decided to focus my attention on you.
- I am praying today that the God I serve will focus his attention on you.
John 15:16, Jesus Christ said you have not chosen me but I have chosen you
- You notice He is a God of surprise. Abraham was minding his business when God surprised him.
Isaiah 43:19, he said behold I will do a new thing.
- I pray that God will give you a pleasant surprise this Sunday.
- He is a God of blessing, he blessed Abraham.
Proverbs 10:22, says the blessings of the Lord maketh rich and addeth no sorrow. Abraham was nothing when God called him and it wasn’t long when he became something
- On behalf of my father in heaven, I pronounce on you, God bless you!
- He is a God of greatness, He said to Abraham, I will make you great.
Psalms 18:35, David said, it is Your gentleness that has made me great. If you ever become great in this world you owe it to God.
- As you continue to serve this God, you will become great.
- He said you are going to be a blessing, He said I will bless those who bless you, He is a God of overflowing blessings when He blesses He blesses overflowingly.
Luke 5:1-7, when God blessed Peter, it overflowed Into other people’s boats. - He is a defender of his own, He said I will curse those who curse you. He protects his own and those who curse you, you don’t have to answer.
Proverbs 26:27, says those who dig a pit will fall into it - He is a God who is a lover of the whole world. Early this year He said, RCCG belongs to Him, He can take care of His own and He will take care of His own. He has spoken and it is settled.
He said to Abraham, I am not just blessing you for your sake alone, through you shall the whole world be blessed.
John 3:16, for God so loved the world that He gave his begotten son.
Do you know who the Son He gave is?
Matthew 1:1, Jesus the son of Abraham, the promise he made to Abraham, he fulfilled in Jesus Christ - The God of Abraham is a name changer, Genesis 17:1-5, 15, He changed the name of Abram to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah.
- The God of Abraham will change everything in your life that is hindering you from fulfilling your destiny.
- I pray for every one of you whose name is working against, God will inspire you to change that name.
You may say what is in a name? A poet said a rose called by any other name will smell as sweet. Search the Scriptures, the name Moses is drawn out of water, check his story, there was only water.
- We are talking about the One who rules by decree, Genesis 18:9-14, He had been promising that Abraham will be the Father of many nations then He said Abraham, nine months from now, Sarah will conceive, he changed the prophecy to decrees.
- I pray for every one of you who has been expecting the fulfillment of one promise or the other may that promise become a decree.
- The God of Abraham is the One who can reverse the irreversible, the unchangeable changer.
Romans 4:18, when God said Sarah will conceive, her womb was dead. - The God of Abraham is the Great Provider, Genesis 22:7-14, Isaac said to his father, daddy we are going to worship God, where is the lamb? The father said God will provide and He did
- I pray that every need of yours will be met today
- The God of Abraham is the God of generational blessing, he doesn’t just bless the father and leaves the son alone. In Genesis 22:15-18, God changed what he said in Genesis 12:1-4. In Genesis 12:1-4, God said Abraham through you shall the whole earth be blessed. In Genesis 22:15-18, He said through your seed, I transfer the blessing to your seed.
WHO IS THE GOD OF ISAAC?
- The God of laughter, Genesis 21:1-6, the mother said God has made me laugh and everyone who hears will laugh with me.
- I pray that from now on you will never know sorrow, God will fill your laughter that others can share in.
God of laughter, are you saying God laughs? Psalms 2:1-4 tells us that the One who sits in the heaven shall laugh.
When I became General Overseer, the teachings around then were that as a true Christian you must look too serious, thank God we have learned a little more now. I remember those days in Ebute-Metta, when we were doing Sunday School group by group, I will be going round to make sure things are going properly, I will leave my office determined to be serious and as I am going I will see little children and I can’t resist them, I will laugh and smile, I will get back to the office and say oh God, look at you now, you are supposed to be serious until He showed me that even me your Father I laugh, what a deliverance.
I remember one of my daughters came to me around that period after God delivered me from not having laughter, she said daddy what is the problem, no brother has ever come to me to say how now? I said do you want to hear the truth? She said yes, I said if I were a brother I don’t think I will come to you because you are always looking serious, always looking as if you just finish a fight, smile. She was shocked but then all of a sudden she smiled and I didn’t even know she was beautiful. Less than a year later she was happily married.
- May the Almighty God put a smile on your face.
- He is a God of First Fruit Sacrifice. Genesis 22:1-2, God said to Abraham take your only son Isaac, offer him as an offering to me.
John 3:16, for God so loved the world He gave his Only-begotten Son. That is why He promised in Proverbs 3:9-10, you honour me with the First Fruit of your increase and see what I will do. God gave his only begotten son so He can become the First of many brethren. He sacrificed His First Fruit and today He has many children. - He is the God of the Living Sacrifice. The God of total surrender because when Isaac got to the mountain top with his father and his father decided Romans 12:1, He expects you to be a living sacrifice totally surrendered to God.
- The God of Isaac is a God of multiplication. Genesis 22:15-18, God said in blessing I will bless you but in multiplying I will multiply your seed. It will interest you to know that Isaac was the first one to have a set of twins, Genesis 25:21-2.
- I decree to all my children trusting God for the fruit of the womb, get ready for twins in Jesus name.
The Bible promised in Isaiah 61:7, double for your trouble
- The God of Isaac is the One who rewards obedience.
Genesis 26:1-6, the Almighty God told Isaac, don’t leave this land, stay here, when there was famine he obeyed and God prospered him. Isaiah 1:19, the Bible says if you are willing and obedient you will eat the good of the land. - He is the God of the harvest of a hundredfold, Genesis 26:12, Isaac sowed in the land and reaped in the same year a hundredfold.
- He is the God of continuous increase, continuous greatness. Genesis 26:12-14, Isaac sowed in the land, he reaped a hundredfold the first year and then he waxed great and he went forward and grew until he became very great.
WHO IS THE GOD OF JACOB?
- The God of Jacob is the covenant-keeping God, Genesis 28:10-16, the Bible tells us that when Jacob was running away from his brother, he got tired and got to place, God appeared to him, He said I am the God of your father Abraham and the promise I made to Abraham I will fulfill in you. He ignored what Jacob had done because of the covenant.
- He is the God of transformation. Genesis 32:24-28, He changed the name of Jacob to Israel al, He transformed him from being a cheater to a prince.
- He is the God who is the unchangeable changer, the God who can change death to life, who can change enemy to friend. Genesis 27:41, Esau promised, as soon as my father dies, I will kill my brother but because of the encounter that Jacob had with God in Genesis 32, by the time we got o Genesis 33:1-4, the brother who was coming to kill him embraced him and kissed him, God changed death to life for Jacob, changed enemy to a friend for him.
- Whatever God has to change so that you will become what God wants you to become may it be done today in Jesus name.
WHO IS THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC AND JACOB?
- He is the great Deliverer. Exodus 3:1-10, He said to Moses, I have come to deliver Isreal, tell them I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Galatians 3:29, says if you are a Christian then you are of the seed of Abraham. Meaning that every blessing that God pronounced on Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is yours. If you are a Christian!
If you are not a Christian, you don’t know what you are missing which is why I am going to give you an opportunity to change your ways, surrender to Jesus Christ and then you too can claim to be of the seed of Abraham and Abraham’s blessing shall be yours.
If you want to surrender to Jesus Christ today, I will pray with you, the Lord will save your soul and you will become of the seed of Abraham so if you call on Him now and ask Him to have mercy on you and save your soul, He will grant your request now.
