Proverbs 13:15, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to give you a good understanding of the Word you’re about to hear, go ahead in the name of Jesus. In this year of possibilities God will give you understanding in Jesus name. Give him a big hand and you may be seated.
TOPIC: THE POWER OF EXPECTATION
What is power?
Power is the ability to effect a change. The Greeks word for power is Dunamis.
What is Expectation?
Expectation is an act of looking forward to something to happen or occur. Is a confident belief or stronghold that a particular thing or event will happen.
The power of expectation therefore means the ability to change a situation by what you are looking forward to happening. ChurchGist. Your expectation is very powerful, in the journey of life it is what you expect you will experience, when your expectations are negative, life experiences will be negative and when your expectations are positive life expectation will be positive, I pray that you will not have a negative experience anymore, a bad situation can become good if your expectation is positive. I pray that you will not have negative experiences anymore. A bad situation can become good if your expectation is positive, never allow your present situation to determine what you will expect in life. Miracles happen where they are expected, they don’t happen where they are needed. Acts 3:5. So, if you don’t expect something you have nothing.
Proverbs 23:18. Surely there is an end to failure, somebody’s failure has ended today. So, expectation is the mother of manifestation. ChurchGist. It is what you expect you attract. Lack of expectation can create frustration, if you expect nothing, you get nothing. Sam Walton the founder of Walmart made a statement and he said: High expectations are the key to everything, to take delivery if your inheritance in Christ your expectations matters a lot. Hear this people of God, we receive and we enjoy our redemptive package through Faith and faith delivers through expectation. ChurchGist. Your faith will not work without expectation.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the expectation … So, it is what you expect. So, without expectation your faith will not deliver, no matter how powerful your faith is, if you have no expectation it will not deliver.
STRONGHOLDS OF EXPECTATION
1) Understanding of God’s Word.
You need to understand God’s word, you know why? If you read the Bible and you don’t understand it you can have negative expectations. The Bible says that it is easier for a Camel to pass through a needle than for a rich man, is that true? They will just turn the Bible upside down. They read that poor people will always be in the land and they expect to be among the poor people, they are reading the Bible upside down. ChurchGist. They will say that there is nothing wrong, even the Bible says that the poor you will always have. So, why must I be rich, are you getting my point now?
You are saying all fingers are not equal, must you be the smallest, why not be the tallest, you’re quoting it upside down. So, the man began to have negative expectations because he does not understand the Word of God. They say that in every marriage there must be trouble and if you ask them why, they say when we marry, we would expect. Do you know people expect to divorce before they marry, they will say if it doesn’t work then I will walk away. So, from the beginning of the marriage failure has started because the expectation is wrong. ChurchGist. Look, I am going in, if it doesn’t work then I’ll step out. I can tell you that you will divorce because from the beginning you have a faulty expectation. Why must you expect that you will pack out? Some people will just say that, my child that has gone to school are you sure nothing will happen to him? The expectation is wrong. How do you expect that your child will go and have an accident? Understanding of God’s Word is the Key to having strong expectations in life. Good understanding of the Word has the ability to inspire strong expectations in your heart. Because understanding leads to conviction, conviction leads to expectation and expectation triggers miracles.
When you have a strong expectation you won’t be confused by anything, you’re sure that this thing must happen. Look at the man Abraham for instance, Abraham had strong conviction that God is able to give him Isaac that he promised. Romans 4:20-21. He had a strong conviction. ChurchGist. His expectation was that God has said it and I know that it must come to pass. Whatever you’re expecting will come to pass in your life. Ignorance of God’s Word can affect you negatively. If you align your expectations with God’s Word you will never be disappointed and I pray that you will never be disappointed. Proverbs 34: 13. Understanding of who you are and what you’re in Christ will at all times enhance your expectations. I want to share something with you.
Understanding the following will make your expectations better.
A) You must understand that you’re a child of God. As sons and daughters we are heirs of God just as Jesus was, you’re equally entitled to everything God has on earth just like Jesus was. Jesus never looked down on himself because his expectation was that I and my father are one. Romans 8:17. So, as a child of God expect good things. Whatever Jesus was entitled to, we are entitled to it now, so my expectation is that anything Jesus enjoyed I should enjoy also as a child of God. Jesus was born in a manger did he stay in the manger? You may be born in a low place but don’t expect that you will live there forever.
Jesus was born in a manger but lived in the palace. How do I know? When he was going they said other boats were waiting for him (Convoys). He was born without cloth, but he wore a cloth that they casted lot upon, so he didn’t wear rags. So, expect that things will turn out better.
B) Understand God owns the entire earth and all the resources in it and you’re entitled to all that God has. Psalm 24:1. Your father owns everything that is in this world. Having a good understanding of your redemptive right will always make you expect the best of life. ChurchGist. You will not be expecting crumbs like Lazarus. Always desire the best. My father owns the earth and everything inside the earth. Luke 16:19-22. Lazarus was desiring to be fed of crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. That was his expectation. He could not understand the entire wealth of his father. He was the prodigal son’s older brother also. Understand that your father owns everything. So, your expectations should be that I am going for the best. If it is not the best then it is not for you. Say with me: I will go for the best, anything below the best I will not accept, if it’s not the best I won’t go for it.
C) Understand that your expectation is never a threat to God. No matter the scope of your expectations it is very possible with God. Jeremiah 32:17. Say with me: my God has more than enough to grant my desires and my expectations. God will never run short of resources to grant you your expectations, there is nothing you ask from God that he cannot do. Romans 8:32. It is not the 10 naira or 10 trillion that you’re asking that will move God, no matter the amount you want to ask from God it is like taking a teaspoon from the ocean. If he gave you Jesus, is it that small thing you’re asking that will mean something to him? Jesus is the most precious thing to God, is it your 10 million, 10 billion, 10 trillion you’re asking for that will move him. Why are you asking for 1 room in a ghetto? Proverbs 10:24. Tell your neighbour to change your expectations, stop having a myopic expectation.
Stop having a village expectation, have the Kingdom expectation. Let your expectations be very big. You can be born in a village but have a very big expectation. Jesus was born in a manger but he never lived like a man born in a manger. God said if I gave you Jesus for free, why are your expectations small? Proverbs 10:24. Anything you desire God says he will grant it. Psalm 37:4. God has all the capability and ability to grant us even beyond our highest expectation. Ephesians 3:20.
Stop expecting things below God’s best for you. Do you know this thing is very powerful? Many people are desiring things below God’s best. I will show you from the Bible, there is a man called the prodigal son’s older brother. Luke 15: 25-30. The Prodigal son’s older brother was asking a housemaid about what was going on in his father’s house. The father killed a fat calf for the prodigal son. ChurchGist. This shows us that the father has a lot of big cows in his custody. The father has big calves and he was asking for a kid. Your father owns the whole world and you’re asking for a clerk job. You’re settling down for a #100,000 Job. Who will dare take the 100 billion job if not you.
A lot of christians pray with a wrong expectation. People like us are prodigal sons. We wasted our life outside rocking and now Lord give us the best. The prodigal son knew that his father was very rich. If you see some S.U (Scripture Union) you will hate Christianity. They will just keep singing 🎼🎼 Jesus is coming soon amen amen, na so he go be o, amen amen🎼🎼 if you ask him how far? He will say we are managing o, God will help us. ChurchGist. Their shoe is worn out, there cloth is worn out, he will say if I can get #5,000 I will be okay. You look at and be like so all this Church you have been going all this while you’re only expecting #5,000 and they think that they are very righteous, they are the prodigal son’s older brother, asking for a kid when there is a fat cow. See their mentality, their expectation is very wrong. They will say let my brother be the Commissioner and I will be his PA, you have a very wrong expectation, can’t you be the Commissioner and you’re a graduate and he is a graduate, some people who are politicians don’t even go to school. Thank you. Say with me: The best of God is available to me and I will go for the best. Someone once said, when the best is available the better is not good enough. Don’t form based on your situation but let it be based on God’s word because your situation is temporal and God’s Word is eternal and it must come to pass. 2nd Corinthians 4:18, Matthew 24:25.
I was sipping Garri otherwise known as Pounded Cassava yet my expectation was that I was going to be one of the wealthiest preachers on earth, I didn’t start talking like this now, in fact I have stopped talking now. ChurchGist. When I was at my lowest point in life my speech was very harsh. I don’t like that anymore. I will say listen, I am going to be one of the wealthiest preachers on earth and I had only 1 suit but my expectation was that I am not going to be a poor man, I said listen one of the wealthiest preachers in this generation will be me. I am going to be a multi-billionaire and I will give in dollars and in millions. ChurchGist. That was my expectation. I didn’t mind the one shoe I was wearing, the shoe that I wore till it broke but I kept on emphasizing my expectations. When this Church was not much, I said listen take your seat because a time is coming that you will rush to enter, how many were in Church then? That was my expectation, so I was not looking at what the Church was then, I was looking at what the Church will become, stop talking based on where you are. start talking based on where you want to be.
Let your language not reflect your situation, let your language reflect what you want to see tomorrow. Stop looking at your current situation, tell yourself I will be a house in a GRA. I was sipping Garri when I was talking big, that some people used to get angry, they would say what is this one saying with his small suit. Some of them have accused me in a conference and I wore one suit and today I give out suits. ChurchGist. God is no respecter of persons. That was my expectation that I am going to be a rich preacher, I am not going to be a poor preacher. Stop talking based on your current circumstances. That you’re poor today does not mean that you’re a poor man. Who told you that you’re poor, your father owns Heaven and Earth, that you don’t have money in your pocket does not mean that you’re poor.
You’re not a poor man! Stop using that kind of language, you’re not poor my friend. Who told you that you’re poor? Who has any current note, just give me one if it is very clean. This is #1,000, no matter what I do to it, the value does not change. Even if I squeeze or press it. That life has beaten you down to the floor does not mean that your value is not the same, you still possess the same value. If I go to a shop with this same #1,000 will they take it? Yes. Your value has not changed, you’re just temporarily on the floor because of circumstance. My friend, stop looking down on yourself. Your value is still the same, that you are battered by circumstance, you fell down does not mean that your value has changed. The value God placed on you is still the same. So, let your expectation be based on your value, it’s only circumstance that took you round but I come to say to you that you will never go down in life, whatever God has ordained for you to become as you’re expecting it will happen in your life in the name of Jesus.
2) Faith
Faith in God’s Word is another stronghold of expectation. You can’t divorce expectation from faith. Hebrews 11:1,6. Hope means confident expectation. ChurchGist. Faith works with confident expectation to produce results. Faith provokes expectations and expectation compels manifestation of miracles.
Mary was told that she will conceive a child without a man and she believed her expectation was high based on what she was told, she has pressed her expectation at every opportunity she had. Expectation born out of hope will give birth to possibilities in life.
Abraham did not change his language for one day, he was expectant that what God has said cannot fail. Yes, you have faith, then let your expectation be strong based on your faith, are you getting what I am saying now, the two go hand in hand. For your expectations to be strong and fruitful you must have deep rooted faith in God’s Word, you must trust him absolutely knowing that God cannot change and cannot lie. Malachi 3:6. Numbers 23:19. Prayer is answered when your faith is backed with strong expectations. Mark 11:24. What you believe you expect and what you expect you ultimately have.
In the next service I will talk about why some people have low or negative expectations. For example: the family you came from, the things you hear from childhood affects you, you may not know.
3) Expect to Receive
I am going to teach you something I was battling with for many years before a man of God opened my eyes to this topic. ChurchGist. Many have been taught that it is wrong to expect something in return when you give something to God. Even me, that was my belief, that it is wrong to expect to receive from God when you give to God. Do you expect a salary at the end of the month from your boss? Why do you expect it? Because you worked, ok. Do you expect forgiveness when you confess your sin to God? Why? Now Faith in Hebrews 11:6. So if I believe he will reward. He is a rewarder of them who diligently sow. I should know that anytime I do something there will be a reward. Are you getting what I am saying? Give and it shall be given back to you, who will give back to me? And if I don’t expect it, how do I get it? Luke 6:38. It is when the motive is wrong that God will not reward. If I am doing it with the wrong motive but if what I am doing is right, I should expect a reward. Many of us don’t expect anything from God even when we give, we pay Tithe. Malachi 3:10. So, when I tithe, I should expect the windows of Heaven to open.
God promises benefits for those who tithe faithfully. Listen, one day Peter asked Jesus a question. He said: Master, we have left everything to follow you. Mark 10:28-30. Peter is saying we have left all and followed you, are you saying that there is no reward. Jesus said now that you’ve done this expect to receive a hundredfold. May you receive in the name of Jesus. In the law of expectation, expect God to bless you for all acts of obedience. Deuteronomy 28:1-2. So, when I hearken blessings will overtake me, always expect your enemies to flee before you, expect financial ideas and wisdom from God as your harvest.
Deuteronomy 8:18. God’s Word is full of expectation, so expect to receive it is not wrong. I didn’t know for years, I believe that even when you give, don’t expect anything from God. When God gave Jesus, did he not expect you to be born again? The almighty God gave Jesus with the expectation that you and I will be saved. ChurchGist. It is not wrong to expect, it is wrong when you have a wrong motive but it is not wrong to expect. Giving without expectation is nonsense. I was giving before without expectation, I knew about expectation through a man of God. In fact I used to be like just give, don’t expect anything from God, it is a lie, Give with expectation. Why would I pay Tithe if I don’t expect ideas from God? Why will I go to confess if I don’t expect forgiveness? The Bible is full of promises, when you’re reading it expect something from it. The promises of God are simply the expectation of God.
