Father speak to us, let your Word bless our heart as we receive it, on this second day let each one of us have an understanding of what prayer is, open our eyes with deep insight, Holy Ghost give everyone an encounter with a personal word in Jesus’ mighty name.
Before we hear God’s Word, while preparing for service a word dropped in my heart, I was sharing it with one of my associates, in life don’t allow the obstacles before you affect you, focus on your goals, if you focus on obstacle, you will miss God’s purpose obstacles will always be in front of but don’t allow the obstacles affect you, be consumed with your goals you will overcome the obstacles. ChurchGist. In life you’re either focusing on the problem or you’re focusing on the promises, don’t allow the obstacles of life stop you from advancing. Forget the obstacles and focus on the goals you have before you. Let the goals before you consume you that the obstacles will mean nothing to you, are you getting what I am saying now?
Don’t allow obstacles to ever mean anything to you, focus on the goals, don’t allow obstacles to affect your destiny. If you’re headed somewhere don’t allow the challenges of life stop you, focus on what you’re looking for and do not allow the challenges ever stop you from achieving the goals in your life. ChurchGist. Obstacles are an opportunity to achieve our goals, excuses should not be given for anything, find a way out to achieve success, don’t allow excuses, always find a way out to achieve your goals. Don’t ever give in to excuses. Praise the lord!
THEME: PRAYER FOR POSSIBILITIES (2)
How many were blessed yesterday? Yesterday we were able to know that prayer is not just praying. Now, we will be taking our message from Luke 11:1, we serve a God that answers prayers. Psalm 65:2. God answers prayers, so when your prayers are not answered, you should ask yourself what went wrong. ChurchGist. If your prayer is not answered then you should ask yourself what went wrong? Luke 11:13. Psalm 34:10. There is nothing good you will ever lack after today. But there is a right and proper way to pray. James 4:3. You’re asking and you’re not receiving because you’re asking in the wrong way, many don’t learn how to pray, they think learning how to pray is a waste of time, they just engage in prayer and keep bombarding Heaven with prayer and fasting without an end. They’ll just say well I want to pray, you know we are bombarding the Heavens, I hear people say so, you know how people bombard people’s gate, you can’t bombard His gate, it’s not Ukraine and Russia. Praise the Lord!
Jesus taught his disciples how to pray. Luke 11: 1-4, He gave a formula of prayer. You don’t learn to pray by praying, you learn to pray by learning it from God’s Word. There are vital keys that will enhance your effectiveness in prayer and I’ll be sharing them today. ChurchGist. Engaging them will guarantee a speedy answer. If you ignore these keys your prayer will be empty, ineffective and a waste of time. Many times, people pray and they don’t even wonder what they are praying about and they are not getting the solution. Every religion prays, whether the answer comes or not, they do not bother but Christianity is not supposed to be so, we are supposed to pray to get answers.
VITAL KEYS IN SECURING ANSWERS TO YOUR PRAYERS
You know if you carry the wrong key, it can’t open the door, even though you’re sincere and then you hold a wrong key and you’re trying to open the door and you’re crying, you’re sincere, yes but that door will not be opened. So, when you use the wrong key in prayer there will be no answer. I’ll be sharing with us few of them.
1) THANKSGIVING, WORSHIP AND PRAISE
Jesus said start by hallowing God’s name because without that Heaven is not permitted to open, it takes thanksgiving and praise to access the throne of grace. Psalm 100:4. Be thankful unto him and bless his name. No matter the challenges, no matter the problems before you, without thanksgiving God is not going to hear you. ChurchGist. Oh God you know I have a problem, God will say: No! Enter into my gates with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6. Without thanksgiving your prayer is a protest. God will not answer because you’re fasting for 50 days, he will answer when you ask correctly, fasting and prayer is to reinforce your strength for exploits but does not mean God will answer when you’re fasting if you pray wrongly.
You build spiritual stamina with fasting but that does not mean God will answer you if you ask wrongly. I pray somebody will understand. ChurchGist. Now, Jesus concluded his prayer when he was teaching the disciple by saying: thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory. This means thanksgiving, worship and praise. Therefore, the beginning of prayer must be with thanksgiving, worship and praise and end it with thanksgiving, before God can take cognisance of what you’re talking about. Any prayer you don’t start and end with thanksgiving is a nonsense prayer. If you want to pray: Father, I thank you and as you’re ending also say: Father, I thank you for answering my prayers, may the Lord give somebody understanding.
So, it’s not oh God, oh God you know I am in need of that, God will say you’re protesting, thank me first. Oh God look at me I am suffering, God will say you’re wasting your time, come to me with thanksgiving. Look at what I’m going through, God will say thank me first, otherwise you can shout from now till tomorrow, I will not answer. ChurchGist. God, don’t you know I have a need (Me too I had a need). Jesus said at the tomb of Lazarus: Father, I thank you, he didn’t say: Father, can’t you hear me, he said thank you, so as to open the gates of Heaven. Is somebody getting what I am saying?
2) YOU MUST PRAY TO THE FATHER AND ALSO PRAY IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
John 16:23-24. So, my prayer will be to the Father. So, if I want to pray, who do I pray to? The Father. In the name of who? Jesus. John 14:13-14. Anywhere you go that prayer is offered not in the name of Jesus, its occultism, somebody is praying and praying and you did not hear the mention of Jesus. It’s occultism, that you see a miracle does not mean it’s from God. ChurchGist. You must ask the Father in the name of Jesus. Have you not seen people praying and they say: Emmanuel, no Jesus, that is not God? It is a pure occultic practice, because the scripture cannot be broken, ask the Father in my name, not in Emmanuel. Emmanuel is also God with us but you can’t use it for the name of Jesus. Father in the name of Jesus.
3) PRAY FROM YOUR HEART
Prayer has to be from the heart before it can gain access to God. Proverbs 16:1. If I want my prayers to be answered, it has to come from my heart. ChurchGist. Hannah went into the temple. 1st Samuel 1:13-20. Nowadays we have people that pray like pharisees, a lot of noises yet they are not concentrating. Any prayer not emanating from your heart is a religious prayer. You know how you know you’re not praying from your heart? When you’re praying and you’re looking at your phone, Hello! Hold on I am praying, when I am done, I will call you. That prayer is not from your heart. Do you know even in church when prayer is going on some people are not praying, they are looking at other people who are praying. How do you see the person if you’re praying?
That means your heart is not involved in the prayer, because if your heart is involved you wouldn’t even know when someone is around you, have you not seen situations of when you’re praying and you’re thinking about a particular soup, today I will eat you o, yet you’re praying. You’re thinking that between Egusi soup, Okra soup and Ogbono soup which one will be better after fasting yet you’re praying. My wife will not agree, she will cook Egusi, she needs to know that it’s Ogbono I want, while you’re still praying. That kind of prayer will not be answered. James 5:16 (AMPC) The heartfelt prayers, if God finds nothing in your heart, nothing will be in your hand. ChurchGist. The prayer has to come from the inside, oh God of Heaven, hear me now, it’s not a lengthen prayer but a heartfelt prayer, many of us just keep boasting about it, I pray for 4 hours, believe you me, if I pray for 4 hours you will see the result, I’m not kidding, if I pray for 4 hours you will see the results.
Some people thinks that the hours determine the results. A heartfelt prayer not a long-drawn prayer. We are bombarding the heaven for 6 hours; we are not in a prayer competition. I don’t mean you cannot pray for hours, but if I pray like that you will see the result, I wonder why people pray and after that there is nothing to show forth for it. No! No! Then that’s not prayer. ChurchGist. For every prayer you pray also watch the result of the prayer. When you pray look back, the Bible says watch and pray, it didn’t say pray and close. When you pray also watch, this prayer I am praying is it getting any answer, if it’s not getting then go and re adjust. Jeremiah 17:10. Now, before you pray it’s important that you prepare your heart before you approach God in prayers. Jeremiah 29:11-13. Your concentration must be there, in the name of Jesus, heal your people, bless your people (o boy, off the Television) Father, today let things work. Check the result whether things will work or not.
Gloria, check that pot, I have told you to be careful (Father), Junior, lock the door and you’re praying, your heart is not in the prayer, that’s not how to pray. A heartfelt prayer. ChurchGist. There used to be a young man who used to live with us. I would hear his voice from my room, baaaaaaaaaaaa, baaaaaaaaaaaa. I called my wife one day and asked her that what is the boy praying about? You won’t hear anything, you’ll just hear baaaaaaaaaa, I said this guy is not concentrating here. Jeremiah 30:21b.
So, when you want to pray make sure your heart is involved, remove all the thoughts in your heart, all those small things remove them, focus your heart in the prayers, oh God of Heaven, if you’re spending 1 hour let it be 1 hour, if it’s 2 hours let it be 2 hours, not that you’re be praying and expecting someone’s call and if a call come in, you’ll pick and tell them to hold on, can’t you hear me praying? How did you know that the phone is ringing? ChurchGist. And you’re praying. Hold on now, I am praying, I’ll call you when I am done praying (Father in the name of Jesus) God will say look you, one of the things that distract so much in prayers is our phone. When you want to pray, flip your phone down, there are some calls you can’t reject, either you put it on silence and flip it down or you turn it off, the person will realize that there is something you’re doing at the moment.
There are some calls you can’t reject, you’ll just be forced to answer, maybe a senior man is calling you; you’ll be forced to pick the call. So, the best thing is to turn the phone off because you’re communicating with the senior of all seniors. Your phone can distract you, when you’re through with the prayers, you’ll see the missed call and you’ll return the call, you’ll say sir I was doing something when I called, so I have to talk to you now. ChurchGist. The person will understand because he is a child of God. No matter how anointed the person is. Praise the Lord!
4) PRAY ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL.
This is to pray in agreement with the Word of God. 1st John 5:14. God’s Word is his will, that means you must have his word for what you’re asking for, otherwise there will be no response from him. Isaiah 43:26. Remind me of my Word, prayer can be likened to a courtroom, in my life I have only been to a court premises only once, I mean into a court hall, when I was in Lagos as a young man, a lawyer told me that he has a case and I followed him, when I followed him, the man who was with the case could not talk well, the other guy was just bombarding him, I said why did you bring me to court here and after that time we took the one that won him as our own lawyer because I like the way the man spoke. ChurchGist. I like you more than the man that brought me here. Now, prayer is like that. You must tell God why; you will quote section upon sections according to lawyers
So, you’ll say according to Romans this, Genesis this, God you have to do this. Going to pray without the Word is just speaking English, if you want God to answer you, tell him why. ChurchGist. The Bible says produce your strong reasons. Isaiah 41:21. Tell me why I should do it? Is that clear?
Tell God, based on this, this should be done. Is that clear? You’re going to tell God that God according to your Word. The real work in prayer is not praying, the real work is arranging words. If you’re a member of this Church you’ll find out that we don’t pray without the Word. You can’t see any of us just getting up and shout pray. ChurchGist. What people call prayers most times is just religion, prayer is not a small job, before you pray make sure you take out time to arrange scriptures, if you read about Elijah, the time for preparation was longer than when he was praying.
Many people think that prayer is just getting up to pray. Now, pray no evil. What kind of prayer is that? Is that prayer? Pray now, it is written, according to Isaiah 54:14. Take this scripture and pray that is a genuine prayer, not the one you’ll pray without any scripture at all, anybody who wants to kill us die, die, what kind of prayer is that? ChurchGist. What scripture is anybody that wants to kill me should die, that’s how we pray religiously, any prayer without prayer is a waste, prayer must be with the word. If you pray according to his will, his will is the Word of God, so getting the Word is the real work. John 15:7. So, get hold of the Word in the area you have need and commit God in your prayers for his response.
There was a time somebody in this Church was to face a panel and the panel was not funny, so the person came to me, he said sir this panel is to embarrass me, I asked him why? He said they set up the panel because they have me and two other persons as targets, so that we can never go forward, I smiled. I said Jesus stood before Pilate so that you and I should not be judged and I said based on Romans 8:33, therefore that panel you will never face it. ChurchGist. The only person that has the right to judge me is God, no mortal man can put me in the box and judge me. With that scripture, they set up the panel but he was the only one that was not called for questioning.
But if I had said: Now, Father no judgement, no judgement, what is no judgement, this person is a member of Salvation Ministries therefore he must not appear. Is that prayer? What kind of prayer is that? That’s how some of us pray. ChurchGist. Father I am a sanctuary keeper, since I clean the house, clean my life. This is how many of us pray and we’re very serious, that is not prayer, you’re only speaking your own English, you just take this Word (the Bible) and give it back to God. So, the real prayer is not praying, it’s locating the right scriptures and that is a work.
So, you can see that prayer is not just coming out to pray. ChurchGist. Prayer is a work, when we want to pray, we take hours to prepare scriptures, but the real prayer is very short, the location of the scriptures is the real work.
Have you not heard of Bishop Oyedepo when his last daughter died, he didn’t say rise from the dead now, he sat down and said God show me, he said three scripture came from Heaven. God said take this scripture go and prophesy them over my daughter and he went and the daughter woke up. So, it was the scripture that really did the work. ChurchGist. He didn’t say Father I am a man of God; therefore, my daughter rose up. He located the scripture, so, in every area you want to pray, locate the appropriate scriptures, so the real work is locating scriptures, not just waking up to pray.
5) PRAY WITH THE UNDERSTANDING OF WHO YOU’RE IN CHRIST.
Have the full understanding of your rights and privileges, approach God boldly as a child of God. Stop begging in prayers, many of us religion makes us not to pray well. Hebrew 4:16. Let us therefore come boldly, not beggarly. ChurchGist. God is saying do you want to pray? Come to me as a child of God, don’t come to me like a slave. There is a statement that is religious but not correct: Father, we are all miserable sinners, how many of you have heard such in your religious background? That’s a wrong prayer, you’re not a miserable sinner, if you commit sin, he said confess he is faithful and just to forgive you. How can you now go to God thinking that you’re praying and crying: Oh God I have come as a miserable sinner, did God say come to me as a miserable sinner or boldness?
If you commit sin, confess it and go back to God but don’t go to Him as a miserable sinner, they will be crying thinking it’s religion. Know your privileges and rights. ChurchGist. I will give you two people in the Bible, one did not know his right, the prodigal son’s older brother, the other one knew his right, the prodigal son. The prodigal son knew his right. He said I will arise and go to my father; I know I am a child of God I will go back. The prodigal son’s older brother was full of religion. Luke 15:18. He went to ask a servant in the house, what are they doing in my father’s house.
The servant told him they are having a party to welcome your brother. He was angry that they are having a party for him and nothing has been done for him, he had no idea the privileges he has from his father. Some of us when we come to Church, the kind of things we ask are very annoying. Even today they will ask, Father one room in Ojoto (A ghetto in Port Harcourt), Father 1 room in Ajegunle, 1 room in Baltimore County. ChurchGist. So, who will live in a flat in GRA, who should be living in GRA? You’re a child of God, don’t ask God like that, you come to God like as if you’re begging for something.
God said ask me boldly, two people don’t knock the door to my room in my house, they just open it, they can turn back if they see me sleeping, every other person knocks, these two people they don’t knock. God said enter and ask him like his own child. ChurchGist. Stop coming like the house boy and you’ll stand by the door (oga I dey here o). Sons and Daughters don’t behave like that, they just open the door and make a demand. God said approach him like a child of God. You respect him but don’t come to him like a slave, you’re not a house maid, you’re a bonafide child of God. Because many of us are so full of religion, we think by doing that we are being holy. ChurchGist. It’s the wrong way of approaching God. When the prodigal son said he’s not worthy, the father said shut up you’re worthy, don’t say you’re not worthy, you’re my child, I have not changed your identity. Please change your perspective when you want to talk to God.
You respect him as your Father but don’t go to him like a housemaid, even if your name is Okon don’t behave like Okon is somebody they gave birth to in the evening. ChurchGist. In Calabar they name you according to events surrounding them. If they give birth to you in the night, they will name you Okon, Effiong is the second born. I have one of my sons who I love so much, his name is Okon and he’s very rich. I am sure he must have looked at it and said I won’t be like other Okon, I am different. Praise God!
Even if they call you Okon, don’t behave like other Okon, go to God like a real Okon. It’s a big issue, many don’t know their privilege and right when they are praying. Father, help me nah, won’t you help me, I am talking to you, look at the way I am suffering. Stop it! Father, you said in your Word, you have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread, I can’t be begging for bread, I am a faithful tither, my Heaven must open, God will say yes my son you’re talking, based on your Word, you say wherever I go I shall find favour , as I am stepping out today favour will follow me, God will say you’re correct. Lord, you said a thousand shall fall at my right and at my left they shall not come near me, no matter the evil happening in my office which will never come near me. ChurchGist. God will mark you good, that you know your rights and privileges.
Never have I prayed to God like a slave, may that slavery mentality be off your life. Before I enter any country, I pray that Lord I am entering this country as your ambassador, let me be honoured like royalty and when I get there, they won’t treat me anyhow. My wife likes to travel with me, she says she enjoys travelling with me, because you will see big honour on display. ChurchGist. The last time we travelled to Alabama, as we arrived in Chicago, we were carried straight bypassing the American and visitors checkpoint and you know if they carry me, they must carry the two of us. I was the first person to leave, in fact the American who followed us stayed an hour extra. But some people when they want to pray, father as I am travelling help me o, help me o, when I appear let them attend to me because I am from Nigeria, is that prayer? Talk like a child of God, tell God that you must be given royalty, special immunity.
Somebody asked me why do you cover your number plate? Do you have immunity? He’s in church now. I asked him if other politicians cover their plates, he said they have immunity, I said the immunity I have is too big, he said really, I said yes. I have Heaven’s immunity. The man came to church today, He said Papa don’t use me to preach, I said I will preach with you. ChurchGist. He’s in Church as I am talking now, he’s laughing and the man is not tall, I discovered that those who are not tall must do something for you to recognize their presence, check people that are short, they like trouble, if you don’t recognize them, they make trouble for you. They will tell you in case you can’t see me because I am not tall, you will know that I am here and they like to carry a very big walking stick.
6) CONSULT THE HOLY SPIRIT IN MOST CASES
Most times we pray but we find out that we don’t know what to pray about, how many of us have come to that point? You want to pray but you don’t even know what to pray about, you know that challenges are there but you don’t know where the challenges are coming from at that point change your prayer. Consult the Holy Spirit in such a case. ChurchGist. Now, I’m going to tell you how to pray that kind of prayer. Romans 8:26-27. There are things God has ordained for you that you don’t know and then you want to pray after you have prayed the one you understand with the Word of God, that is why every Pentecostal must speak in tongues, at that time you render the Satan useless because he cannot understand your language, demon can’t understand tongues, it’s a communication between the Heaven and Earth, only God understands what you’re talking about.
When you start speaking in tongues, there maybe danger, God said it will be averted, the man coming is a trickster but I will open your eyes to see who he is. ChurchGist. 1st Corinthians 14:14-15. The Holy Spirit helps our weakness, our short sightedness and inadequacies because you may not know certain things, he connects us with the right word that will commit God to hear and intervene, sometimes when you pray like that, He will bring to your remembrance words you couldn’t remember, this is the word you’re looking for. Learn to pray in the Spirit, after you pray in the understanding pray also in the Spirit, at that time you’re communicating with the Holy Spirit, he searcheth all things ye the deep things of God. 1st Corinthians 2:10. At that time you’re going deep to say God I don’t understand what this is.
I will tell you of the practical thing I did long ago. I put a list of people working with me together and I began to pray and God told me that one of them will be leaving in 4 years’ time, this one will stay with you but he’s very funny, watch him. ChurchGist. This one is like this; this one believes in what you do. Because man is the most complex creature on earth, he laughs with you and frowns inside, his heart pumps blood and thoughts, I love you (outside), I will kill you (inside), that is man, man is the most complex creature, telling one thing with the mouth, saying another thing in the heart, at that point you don’t pray a normal prayer, you switch to praying I’m the Spirit, God will tell you who is who and then you’ll use wisdom in relating with the person. There is no phycology that can make you know a man, all of you who say there is human philosophy, it’s a lie.
Man is too complex, He’s the most complex creature on earth.
No man fully knows his wife and no woman fully knows her husband; you only know a part. Okay! All of you that are married, what is your wife thinking now and what is your husband thinking? Even your Children you don’t know them. But the Holy Ghost knows all of us and don’t because of that say men are bad, but man is too complex. ChurchGist. Even when you want to employ people for some certain position, consult the Holy Spirit, Lord, I want to employ Joseph, he’s to hold all my finances, who is Joseph and God will reveal to you, maybe Joseph will work to you for 5 years but the 6th year he will scatter your company and then you employ Joseph and you’ll tell him to resign after 5 years.
I did something that baffles our pastors, I knew one of them will leave me after 4 years, then they were to buy the person a car, I said if the person does not leave on Friday, then buy him the car, on Friday morning the person came and he said sir I want to leave. They asked me how I knew, I said do I have to tell you. I said I knew before the person came and I gave the person 10 million to go, I also gave him a free car to go in my usual way, it does not reduce me, but I knew the person was leaving. ChurchGist. Did Jesus not know that Judas would betray him? He said one of you will betray me, Jesus said the one who dip is hand now. How did Jesus know? The Holy Spirit. Not only in the negative things, but also in the positive things, he will tell you of things to come, to encourage you for the future, he will show you things to come.
So, when you pray in the understanding, also pray in the spirit. I was talking to one of our pastors. We had our pastor meeting this morning and he said he wants to leave for a country. I said sir, don’t leave o, pray well before you leave and when you want to leave, leave like this. You can leave from frypan to fire (that is a worldly language), you can leave from Mattress to concrete rather than from concrete to the mattress, make sure anywhere you’re going, you pray. ChurchGist. Even when you’re travelling after praying in the understanding, also pray in the Holy Ghost, after you pray that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, every tongue that rises up against me in judgement I condemn and then you switch to the spirit also and God will give you his latest instruction. I have bought ticket before and my luggage has been carried to the airport, I told them to bring it back. Are you hearing me?
7) YOU MUST PRAY IN FAITH.
Refuse to doubt when you pray. James 1:6. When you pray, Satan will come and tell you that this prayer is not answered, if it’s answered then why are we not seeing the results, tell him: shut up. ChurchGist. God is not a man that he should lie, I know God answered me, that you’ve not seen physical results does not mean God has not answered, Satan will want to challenge your prayers. That is where many people fall. Let him ask in faith, wavering is on the inside. James 1:6. When I was sick to the point of death and I saw Matthew 8:17. I got up and said himself took my infirmities, I said Satan get out of my life, he said go and look at the mirror your eyes are still yellow and I stood and said Satan if he took it, I can’t have it. He said if you say so, then look at the mirror, your eyes are still yellow, I said Jesus took it, then I can’t have it, the prayer I prayed is final. He said look in the mirror again, I said shut up, He took it and I got healed.
We were to have our Night of Glory and we were to start, few minutes to 7, on you marks, get set and go, a heavy rain started in Port Harcourt, the rain was very heavy and I stood in my room and I said Satan, this is not from God this is from the devil. Get out you rain, stop now, He said open your curtain, I said Satan if I don’t doubt in my heart (I made sure my heart is not shaking) I have prayed and it must stand, he said open the curtain, I said Satan this which I have prayed must stand, in less than 5 minutes the rain stopped. ChurchGist. When you pray, stop doubting.
