WHAT IS GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE?
ARE YOU FARMING WHEN GOD IS EXPECTING YOU TO FULFIL A PURPOSE SO MIGHTY THAT KINGS WILL BE CALLING YOU THEIR FATHER?
THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING TAILORING, WHEN GOD’S PURPOSE FOR THEM IS TO BE A BARBER.
DO WE HAVE ANY SAY IN THE ISSUE OF OUR DESTINY?
YES, GOD ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE A SAY

Beloved Jesus, the Lamb of God, the One who loves us so much that He laid down His life for us, the One who took away our curse by becoming a curse for us, the one who changed our curses to blessings, the blessings of Abraham, thank you, thank you for everything you’ve done for us, thank you for the salvation of our souls, thank you for the hope of glory, thank you because we know our tomorrow is alright. Please accept our praises in Jesus’ name. Today, my Father and my God in your Word, reveal yourself to us and let our tomorrow be absolutely alright, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed.
Praise the Lord!
We will continue with our series, Going Higher, as we move on to part 68, Going Higher (68). 1st Kings 19:19-21. In our last discussion, we were emphasizing the need for diligence, if we are to enjoy the anointing of God, we pointed out the fact that God doesn’t give His anointing to lazy people because He knows they will waste it. ChurchGist. But then I’m sure you will want to ask a question, sir, are you saying that Elisha was the only diligent person in the whole land? After all God Himself said that He has 7,000 others beside Elijah? Was Elisha chosen simply because he was the only one among the 7,000 that was diligent? Definitely not.
It brings us to a very important topic and that is the topic of something called: DESTINY, I’m sure those of you who are in Nigeria, you know when we want to admit students into the University, there is an institution that will test everybody, that will test every applicant and they will grade them, I think the grading begins from 400 and then it goes all the way down and then they will pass their results over to the Universities. ChurchGist. Each University, depending on their own standard will decide what will be their own cut off mark for the student that they will admit, maybe they have 400 spaces for the students to be admitted. So, they’ll say well the cut off mark for the students to be admitted into this particular University is 270, you must score at least 270 in the Jamb exams. So, they’ll look at the list of those who have applied and by the time they get to 271, those who have scored 271 and above, they already have 399 students in. So, they need 1 more student, there is one more vacancy and so they’ll drop down their 270 cut off mark and they discovered it is a thousand applicants that scored 270 but they needed only one. So, how do you choose one out of all these people who are equally qualified.
Revelation 4:11. Our God is a God of purpose, He created all things and He created them for His pleasure, He doesn’t create anybody without a purpose in mind. Acts 15:18. He knows the end from the beginning. Isaiah 46:10. He declares the end from the beginning. Jeremiah 1:4-5. Before you were born, God has concluded everything about you. Romans 9:10-13. There were a set of twins in the same mum and God said before they were born, Jacob I love, Esau I hate, they weren’t born yet, but the one who knows the end from the beginning says no, this is settled. ChurchGist. This is the one I love, that one I hate him. Romans 9:17. The reason He brought Pharaoh into the world, the reason He promoted Pharaoh and made Him so great is so that when He drowns Him the world will pay attention.
There is something called destiny, before you were born God had a purpose for your life. ChurchGist. What is God’s purpose for my life? It’s a very important question you need to ask, you must ask that question today, I pray that God will give you the answer. Genesis 50:15-22. The brothers of Joseph came to him after their father died, they said we know we wronged you, now we are your servant, please pity us even though our father is dead, don’t come and get revenge now. ChurchGist. Joseph said, you thought you were doing me evil but you were pushing me towards my destiny. The purpose of God for me was only fulfilled through your activities, I should be thanking you. If you have not sold me into slavery, how would I have gotten into Egypt? How will I become a Prime Minister now? Exodus 3:1-15. It became clear to Moses after he had been alive for 80 years, that the purpose of him being born was to deliver a Nation. Joshua 1:1-8. It became clear to Joshua, he was born to complete the work Moses started, I am to succeed where Moses failed.
The case of Joshua will show you something interesting about destiny. You will remember that when Moses sent some spies to go and spy the land (Number 13:17-30) and the 12 spies came back and 10 said that they can’t take the land, there were only two that said yes, we can take the land. Number 13:17-40. You will discover that on the first night, it was Caleb who spoke, he said yes, we can take the land, Joshua was quiet, it was only the second day. Numbers 14:1-10. It was only later that Joshua spoke and said yes, we can take the land. So, if God was to choose a successor for Moses, should it be Joshua? Why not Caleb? He was the first one to speak. He said the Lord is on our side, we can do it, Joshua kept quiet at first but there is something called destiny.
Look at two people called Aaron and Hur. Exodus 15:8-13. When Moses was on the mountain top at the battle of the Amalekites, there were few people who were lifting his hands, Aaron and Hur and yet Exodus 40:12-13, it was Aaron who was chosen to be the High Priest, Aaron and his children, where was Hur. Luke 8:1-3. Do you know among those people who were named as the divine treasures of the day of the Lord Jesus Christ, was a woman called Mary Magdalene? Out of whom the Lord had to cast out seven demons, so that she could become what God planned for her to be. Also, there are some people that were not even named who were children of destiny. 2nd Kings 5:1-19. The Bible tells us that in the house of Naaman, was a housemaid, when you read that story, you will say oh, the housemaid was born to bring healing to Naaman, that is wonderful, but she did much more. ChurchGist. Because after Naaman got healed and he brought gifts to Elisha and Elisha refused the gifts, he said to Elisha, give me some soil, I’m taking the presence of your God to my country, I’m going there to build an altar. From the moment onward I will only serve your God, that is the purpose to which that little girl was born.
John 6:5-13. The Lord was in need, He wanted to feed a lot of people and the Bible says there was a lad there, they did not give us his name. He surrendered his meal and with the meal, the Lord fed 5,000 men and there were 12 baskets left. That boy was born to be around when God is going to be in need. ChurchGist. What is your purpose? Why were you born? Because we see here in the story of Elisha here, that He was farming, whereas the purpose of God for him was to become the father of Kings, not a farmer. 2nd Kings 13:14-21. By the time he was about to die and he fell sick, a King came and he said my father, my father, he called him father. Are you farming when God is expecting you to fulfil a purpose so mighty that Kings will be calling you father?
Luke 5:1-11. Peter was fishing for fish but God created him to fish for souls. What is God’s purpose for your life? A very serious question that you need to ask, particularly as the time is going, you need to know the purpose of God for your life, before it is too late. ChurchGist. I’ve told you before, one day my driver came to me and said Daddy, I have found my purpose, I believe God created me to drive you, to take you to wherever you’re going, so that you can preach the gospel there, that’s my purpose, he said Daddy you may not know this, but as soon as I take you there, as you begin to preach, I also start to pray. Because there are people who are tailoring, when God’s purpose for them is to be a barber. Yet they’ll say scissors is scissors. One scissors is for barbing, the other is for cutting clothes.
That brings us to a very serious question. Do we have any say in the issue of our destiny? Psalm 33:11. The purpose of God is going to stand. Proverbs 19:21. Regardless of anything a man can do, only the counsel of God will stand. Isaiah 46:9-10. God declares the end from the beginning and His counsel shall stand. ChurchGist. Ok, if He has already determined what I would become, do I have a say in the matter? If He has made up His mind before I was born. Yes, He allows you to have a say. Deuteronomy 30:19-20. God has given us the liberty to choose between life and death. Psalm 119:89. Ezekiel 33:13-19. God said if I say that this sinner you’re going to die, if the sinner repents, I would say I change my mind. If I say to a righteous man; righteous man you’re going to live and the righteous man says okay God has said I’m going to live and then he begins to sin, He says He will die. 1st Samuel 2:30. What is God saying? As we say in one of the proverbs, it is the white man that made the pencil, he is also the one who made an eraser.
Romans 9:10-13. Jacob I love, Esau I hate. Genesis 27:26-40. Jacob got the blessing, but Esau did something, alright I have messed up, I have lost my blessings and then he got busy, by the time you get to Genesis 32:3-12, when Jacob the blessed heard that Esau is coming with 400 bodyguards, it was Jacob that trembled with fear. ChurchGist. Genesis 33:8-9. When Jacob said, my brother Esau, I brought you these animals, I have plenty, Esau said to him, hey, I have enough, keep your own. Let me quickly round up today, before you pray and ask God to reveal to you His purpose for your life.
There is something called the permissive will of God, in other words, God has a purpose for your life but you said no, I don’t want that, I’m going to have my way. ChurchGist. God will say no problem, you’re a human being, I have given you the ability to choose, we will let you choose and you would have what you say you want at all cost and then when you get what you say you want at all cost, you will regret that you said I want my will done and not God’s will.
I’ll give you one example, Matthew 26:24-25. Jesus Christ said to His disciples, the son of man is going as it is written about Him, my own case is settled, I’m going but woe to him by whom the son of man is betrayed, He said it’s better for that fellow not to have been born. Judas Iscariot answered and said, is it I. So, the boy knew he was the one God was talking too and the Lord said, thou art said. What should Judas do when he was confronted with that kind of direct revelation, he should have said I change my mind, but he didn’t, you know the rest of the story, he went ahead, he did what he wanted to do, he collected the money he wanted to collect, but he never spent it. ChurchGist. I might take an extra two minutes because I believe that today’s message is for someone in particular.
I was telling my children in one of our morning devotions not too long ago, there are two daughters of mine, very precious and close to my family. One of them came to me and said I have found the fellow I’m going to marry; I said OK, congratulations, am I allowed to pray? She said why not, please pray. ChurchGist. Father, if this person your daughter said she has found is not perfect will, scatter the matter. Within weeks, God scattered the matter.
But another daughter of mine came, she said Daddy I have found the man I want to marry; I said praise God, do you want me to pray about it? She said No! I don’t want your scatter scatter prayers. ChurchGist. I have come to tell you not that I have seen someone to marry, I have come to tell you that we have fixed the date for the wedding, so, I can’t pray about it. No! Okay, what day is it? She said such and such day, that date is not convenient for me, she said it doesn’t matter. So, she got married, had two children and you know in that kind of situation you can’t come back to say what you’re going through. By the time she finally came, she said I married the wrong man, I said it is already too late. What am I going to do now? Are you pursuing your own will instead of God’s purpose?
(Altar call)
Father, I pray for all your children who may have one ambition or the other, if the ambition is not according to your perfect purpose, Father scatter it, let your perfect will and perfect will alone be done in their lives, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed.
Prayers.
God reveal to me today, your purpose for my life and that your perfect purpose for my life alone will be done.
