WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT, JESUS CHRIST IS NOT A CIVILIAN; HE IS A MIGHTY MAN IN BATTLE
WHO IS THE LORD? HE IS A MIGHTY ONE. HOW MIGHTY? ALMIGHTY; HE OWNS ALL MIGHT
AS A GENERAL, HE KNOWS HOW TO KILL AND BURY AT THE SAME TIME; HE IS THE REAL GENERAL ON GROUND
IF THE KING OF GLORY KNOCKS AT YOUR DOOR TO COME IN AND YOU REFUSE, HE WON’T FORCE THE DOOR OPEN. HE WILL JUST GO AWAY
HE KNOWS THAT A DAY IS COMING WHEN YOU WILL KNOCK AT HIS OWN DOOR AND THEN HE WILL SAY I AM SORRY I DON’T KNOW YOU
WHENEVER THE KING OF GLORY COMES IN, SHAME AND POVERTY HAVE TO GO OUT
THE REASON WE HAVE MANY OF THE PROBLEMS IN OUR COUNTRY TODAY IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TAMPERED WITH THE POWERS OF OUR KINGS
IF WE WILL RESTORE THE DIGNITY, THE GLORY, THE ABILITY OF OUR KINGS, ALL WILL BE WELL
THE KING OF GLORY IS THE ONE WHO CAN DECREE GLORY AND THEREBY EXPEL SHAME
THE KING OF GLORY IS NOT JUST A LORD, HE IS A STRONG LORD

I am extremely happy to be here today and I bring greetings from my wife. In answer to your prayers, our coasts have been enlarged so occasionally we have to send one fellow to one side and one to the other side. But she’s here with us in the spirit. Church Gist. I am excited because God is answering my prayers because my prayer is that my children will be greater than I. And not too long ago, some people came to me and said they wanted my opinion about something. I said if you want my opinion go and ask Bishop Wale Oke because I am under his authority; he is the president of PFN (Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria). Whatever he says, that’s what I say. If I say anything he can cancel it. Church Gist. And one of them said, “We thought he is your son?” And I said, my sons are becoming greater than I.
- All of you who call me Daddy in Spirit and in Truth, you will be greater than I.
Psalm 24:7-10. We will just do a little bit of definition of terms and then conclude. Church Gist. So, while you think I am introducing, I might be concluding. You know I’m a mathematician.
Who is a King? Basically, a King is the one who rules by decrees. Ecclesiastes 8:4. That’s why in Yoruba land we call them, “Alaṣẹ – the one who just decrees.” This is what I want done and that is it. Church Gist. Just like the Almighty God did in Genesis 1:3. A king is someone who will say this is what I want and nobody can query him. That’s why again in Yoruba land we call them, “Kabiyesi.” And the reason we have many of the problems we have in our country today is because they have tampered with the powers of our kings. Church Gist. If we will restore the dignity, the glory, the ability of our kings, all will be well. A King is the one who rules by decrees; someone you can’t query; whatever he says is law. That’s king.
What’s Glory? Glory is the opposite of shame. Proverbs 3:35. Church Gist. Just as the wise is the opposite of the fool, then glory is the opposite of shame.
So, who is the King of Glory? The King of Glory is the one who can decree glory and thereby expel shame. 1 Samuel 2:8. The King of Glory is the one who can say Glory come in, shame go out. So according to the text, Psalms 24:7-10, let the Bible answer for us who is the King of Glory. Church Gist. Now I’m sure you know that they’ve asked me to be the one who will speak first because I am the smallest of all those who will be talking to you this week. And so they asked me to lay the foundation; the bigger brothers are coming. They will give you the deep ones.
According to the text, who is the King of glory? He said:
- The Lord: who is the Lord? The Lord is the owner. That’s another word for Lord – Owner. So when you hear landlord, you know that is the one who owns the land on which the house is built. Church Gist. So who is the Lord? The one who owns the Earth and its fullness. Psalms 24:1. The King of Glory is the one who says, “silver is mine; gold is mine.” Haggai 2:8. The owner of wealth; He is the owner of health. Exodus 15:26. Who is the King of Glory? He is the Lord; the one who owns deliverance. Church Gist. John 8:36. Who is the King of Glory? He is the Lord; the one who controls light and life. John 1:4.
And then the Bible went on to say the King of Glory is not just a Lord, He is a strong Lord. Isaiah 40:29-31. Church Gist. And because He is the strong Lord, He is the one who controls success because strength is the determinant of getting work done. Philippians 4:13.
- Who is the Lord? He is a mighty one. How mighty? All mighty. He owns all might. Psalms 91:1. How mighty is this mighty Lord? Jeremiah 32:27. He is so mighty that He can reverse the irreversible. Ezekiel 37:1-10. Church Gist. He can cause dry bones to live again. This Lord that is strong and mighty, is he a civilian? Because there are mighty civilians. Or is he in the military? It tells us, “He is mighty in battle.” He can fight. Whether you believe it or not, Jesus Christ is not a civilian. When He came, He came as a lamb; but don’t ever think he is still a lamb. He is now the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Church Gist. And when the lion roars, every animal will shake. And I am praying that the lion will roar here today. He is a mighty man in battle Exodus 15:3. He loves to fight. On land, He is the number one general. You don’t believe me? Read Numbers 16:28-35. When He decides to fight on land…you know, if you ask any of the soldiers that you know, they will tell you, the biggest problem of a general is what to do with the bodies of the enemies he has slain. Church Gist. You don’t want to do the dirty job of burying your enemies. And yet if you don’t bury them, they will rot and cause sickness among your soldiers. So the dilemma of the general is, “How do I handle this?” But this particular general we are talking about, He knows how to kill and bury at the same time. You don’t believe me? Read Numbers 16:28-35. He decided to show some people who defied His servant that He is the real general on ground. Church Gist. He just told the ground, “Open your mouth, swallow them and close up again.” We don’t have to deal with corpses.
- And I feel led to decree to someone that all the enemies that followed you here, the ground is going to swallow them!
At sea, He is the number one Admiral. If you read Exodus 15:1-11, it tells us a little bit about Him. How the enemy said, “We will pursue, we will capture, we will do this.” He just told the sea, open your mouth let my children pass, and then, close it upon the enemies. Church Gist. And again He doesn’t have to worry Himself about burying enemies; the fish finished the job for Him.
You might be interested in the fact that He is the first one ever to create a submarine. You know a submarine is a weapon of war that you live inside of it under the sea so that the enemy won’t know you are around. Church Gist. If you don’t believe me that He created the first submarine, ask Jonah. Jonah will tell you when he tried to disobey Him, He sent a submarine to pick him from where he was to where God wants him to be. Jonah 1.
In the Air, there is no Air Marshal like Him. He was the first one to throw bombs. You don’t believe me? Read Joshua 10:1-11. When some enemies decided to fight against Joshua, the Bible says God just began to drop some bombs on the enemies. Church Gist. So that at the end of the day, the Bible says those who were killed by the bombs that God threw were more than the ones that Joshua killed with the sword. It reminds me of a little testimony of a man and his wife that came to the Church. Church Gist. And after sometime we didn’t see them in the Church so we decided to do a follow up. And the woman said, since I started coming to your Church I could no longer fly at night.
- I decree that all the enemies you are sleeping with, that go to attend meetings at night, after today they won’t be able to fly. If they try to fly my father will bomb them.
What actually is His rank? Is he in the rank of Brigadier General, or Major General or what? No! According to the text we read, He is actually the Commander-in-chief. Bible calls Him, “The Lord of Hosts.” Church Gist. When I first read that one as a younger Christian, and I am still young, I thought He is saying He is the controller of angels. But I have since learnt that: no, He controls all the host. The Host in Heaven, The Host on Earth, the Host underneath the Earth. He controls angels; Daniel 6 is enough to prove that one. Church Gist. But He controls all demonic hosts. How do I know? Just one passage is enough. 1 Samuel 16:14. When God said bye bye to King Saul, the Bible said an evil spirit from the Lord came and troubled him.
“But Sir, I thought that it is satan that controls demons?” Well, if you read Job 1:7-12, you will discover that satan himself needs to get permission from the real commander-in-chief. No witch or wizard can touch you without getting permission from the Lord of Hosts. Church Gist. None of them! He is the Lord of Hosts. He told satan, “right, you can go this far but you can’t go beyond this line. It’s a red line for you; you can’t pass that stage.”
And then, He is the controller of all the hosts on land. When someone says, “I am the one in authority” and someone says, “Who is your God that can deliver you out of my hand?” Church Gist. God will say, “alright, let’s show you. Go and eat grass for 7 years and then come back and let us ask ‘who is the one in control?’”
Don’t let anybody deceive you.
- Every force no matter how mighty that may want to tamper with your destiny, the Lord of Hosts will deal with them.
So He is the Lord of Hosts; that’s why the Bible says, “At the name of Jesus Christ, every knee will bow. Church Gist. Things in Heaven, things on Earth and things underneath the Earth.”
Now what happens when He comes in? Because the text says, “Lift up your heads o ye gates and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors. Church Gist. That the King of Glory may come in.” What is so important about the King of Glory coming in? Simple! Whenever the King Of Glory comes in, shame will go out.
I don’t need to tell you the definition of shame. At least you know what and what can cause shame. One of the things that cause shame is failure. You’ve never seen a student coming home, shouting halleluyah if he failed his exams. Church Gist. So when the King of Glory comes in, if you allow Him to come into your life, failure will come to an end. It has to; because failure causes shame.
If He comes in, poverty has to go out; because believe it or not, poverty causes shame. You don’t believe me? In Luke 5:1-7, Peter was a failure. Since we are on academic grounds, I can use the academic as an example. Church Gist. No student will come rejoicing that he failed his exam. If he passes exam, we will hear shouts of halleluyah. Peter has failed; he worked all night and I know because I have been in the academic that there are students who study hard and yet fail their exams. Church Gist. I know what it is to have studied very hard and get into the exam hall and blank out.
I have been there. My second year in the University of Nigeria Nsukka, in one of my dear subjects, I got into the examination hall and there are 8 questions; you are to answer 5. I read the first one, I couldn’t make head or tail out of it. Church Gist. The second, the third, by now I began to sweat. The fourth, the fifth, the sixth, the seventh, the eighth…, My classmates used to come to me to explain this particular subject and I can’t see a single one that I could answer. Church Gist. And I made up my mind well, I will come back and do resit – that’s what it means. But God loved me, so His hand kept me down.
- The hand of God will keep you down and prevent you from taking a wrong decision.
After about 50 minutes, I just sat down and everybody around me was writing furiously. And all of a sudden, I read the thing again. “Ah! I know this; this is so so so theory.” Church Gist. In the little time that was left, I answered all 8. And being a little bit of a rascal; (I’m talking about something of 1964 or 1965) I wrote at the top, “Mark any 5.”
- The King of Glory will step into your life today and your failure, shame, will go out in Jesus’ name.
When He comes in, victory comes in; because defeat brings shame. You don’t believe that? At least those of you who are old enough, you can remember when Nigeria won the world cup. Church Gist. When they came back, (Oh Lord have mercy!) they had a ride from the Airport in Ikeja, all the way to where the President used to live in Lagos. Everybody singing and rejoicing. Next time they went out and they lost; nobody knew when they came in; because defeat brings shame.
- From today onward, you won’t know defeat again!
John 5:2-9. The King Of Glory came in and the man never knew defeat again.
The Bible says in Colossians 1:27, no more despair, sorrow, failure, defeat. The conclusion is simple.
What happens if the King of Glory knocks at your door, and He says let me come in and you say, “No, you can’t come in”? You know, as mighty as He is, he won’t force the door open. Church Gist. He will just go away. Why? Because He knows that a day is coming when you will knock at His own door and then He will say I am sorry I don’t know you. OR, what happens if he has been in and you chase him out? Church Gist. If the King of Glory used to dwell in you and you discover that He doesn’t like sin, He is a holy one. But you kept on sinning; you kept on doing your way. And finally when He can no longer take your sin, he says alright, bye bye. Church Gist. What happens when the King of Glory departs? Well, when light goes out, darkness comes in; it’s automatic. If anybody does not want glory, he will receive shame. The choice is yours.
