Let someone shout Halleluyah!
I have no doubt at all that there is somebody here this morning that will see the New Year! If you are the one shout a big Halleluyah! Church Gist. Greet one or two people and say, “Merry Christmas, God bless you.”
In John 3:16 the Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son…” The elders have a proverb – when I say, “the elders” I mean African elders, they said, “The one who had given you a child, has given you the supreme gift,” and when God was going to give us a gift, He didn’t give us just a child; he gave his only begotten son. He gave us the best that he had, he gave us the only begotten son. He says to us, “anything else that you want to make your joy full, ask through this gift that I have given you.” Church Gist. That is why it says in Philippians 4:19 that, “My God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” That is why I have come to you this very special family to inform you today: as many of you that have received the Lord Jesus Christ and as many of you will receive Him today, whether the devil likes it or not, whether your enemies like it or not, you are not going to die poor.
He went further to say in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things …” which is good news for those of you who are students here this morning.
– In the mighty name of Jesus Christ you will never fail again!
That is not for students alone; it is for all traders, professionals, all those who have started a project and they haven’t completed it yet, you will never fail again! Then he said in John 15:1-5, “if you are attached to this same Jesus, you will bring forth much fruit” which is good news for this particular Family. That very very soon, among you, anything called barrenness will be forgotten! I am even bold enough to say that if there is anyone here today who is considered barren, write it down; 9 months from now, you will be carrying a set of twins. Church Gist. He went further to say in John 8:36, “Whosoever the son shall set free shall be free indeed.” Meaning what? Even the Almighty God knows that there are certain things called yokes, bondage. This is not something you can see with ordinary eye but if this yoke binds the hands of a man, whatever he touches will not succeed. If it binds a man’s feet, while others are running and making progress he will remain stagnant.
Now, yokes could come from the father’s family, it could come from the mother’s family, it could come from in-law’s family, it could come even in the place of work. Church Gist. You just find a man in authority who will simply say, “as long as I am here this particular fellow is not going to make progress.” But there’s something about God. When He opens a door no man can shut it. When he destroys a yoke, nobody can re-establish it.
– I decree that every yoke in your life will end today.
In every man’s/woman’s life, there comes a time when a question begins to trouble your mind. The question is, “Now I am still young, I am still able to run up and down, and things are this tough. What’s going to happen when I am old? Church Gist. When I can’t run up and down as I am doing? I can’t struggle hard as I am struggling now; what’s going to happen when I’m old? The same Word of God tells us that if this Jesus Christ is dwelling in you, the only thing that you can hope for, for your future is glory. Colossians 1:27.
– I decree today to every one of you, your future will be alright!
– You will end well and strong!
But you see, we can continue on and on and talk about all the mighty things in this Perfect Gift called Jesus. But there’s something about a gift – any gift at all: somebody can present you with a good gift. You have the option either to receive the gift, or to reject it. That’s why there is a prayer you must begin to pray from now on and pray it with all your heart. That prayer is: Almighty God, don’t let my head refuse anything good. Church Gist. You see because when Jesus Christ comes to you with all these goodies, you still have the option to accept or to refuse. He won’t force you. He said for example, that “if you come unto me and you are laboured or burdened or heavy laden, I will give you peace.” But he won’t force you. That is why I need to give you just one illustration and it will be time to pray.
The illustration is my humble self standing before you now. Way back to 1969, (so you will know how young I must be in 1969) I was a lecturer at the University of Lagos. Just one young flimsy fellow and I had some colleagues – young people like myself; not many because at that time, there were only 6 universities in the whole of Nigeria. Church Gist. So, we felt great, proud, I mean, look at how small we are and we are lecturers in the university. The people called us, “academicians.” We felt we could handle the whole world. But then a little problem came into my life – the problem that all my mathematics couldn’t solve. Then somebody offered me Jesus. I thank God today that my head didn’t refuse something good.
– Your own head won’t refuse something good!
So I accepted Jesus and everything in my life began to change for the better.
Those of you who know a little bit about my background you will know that when they say somebody is from a rocky start that means he started in serious poverty. Church Gist. My own rock was rock among rocks. My father was so poor that poor people called him, “poor.” The day he bought an umbrella we were rejoicing.
The elders have a saying, “if there is hardship in the life of the husband and hardship in the life of the wife, the hardship will rub off on the children.” Church Gist. It rubbed off on me. For the first 18 years of my life, I had no pair of shoes. That’s how things were! Then, I received Jesus Christ and things began to change. Look at me today!
Just some years ago, the name of my village is not on the map of Nigeria. Today, because I received Jesus, the name of that village is on the map of the world. Jesus can do a lot for you. He can make the poor rich, the unknown known, the forgotten to be someone people will be running after. Not too long ago, I went to an African country. I arrived at the Airport, the Vice President received me very warmly, asked me to pray for him, I prayed for him. He said I must lay hands on him, I laid hands on him. Church Gist. I said “how about the president?” He said he travelled. I finished all I’ve gone there to do and left. After I left, the president discovered that I came to his country. He said, “You came to my country and you didn’t come to see me what have I done?” Then somebody told him, “It’s your Vice President who said you travelled.” He said what? The Vice President did that? They said yes. He said, tell the Vice President his job is over. The Vice President laughed and said, “Ah! You are the one who will lose your job; he has laid his hands on me. I am taking over from you.”
Not because I have Ph.D in Mathematics but because I received Jesus. That is why I am going to ask you a question here today, “will you receive Jesus or will you reject him?” That’s the big question you must answer. Church Gist. So those of you who want to genuinely receive Jesus Christ the way I received him, those of you who will want him to become your Lord and saviour just as he is my Lord and saviour, I want you to come forward.
