– Pastor E. A. Adeboye on “For Whom The Heavens Open (Part 7)” || RCCG ONLINE SUNDAY SERVICE || 26th February, 2023
We will be continuing our series on, “For Whom The Heavens Open (Part 7)” We’ve been considering the fact that one of the most important things that happened to Elisha the day he got the double portion of the spirit of Elijah was that the heavens opened unto him. Church Gist. We have said that he wasn’t the first or last for whom the heavens opened. We began from Noah, to Abraham and to Moses. Last week we looked at “who exactly is Moses?” One of the things we saw about him was that he was a man with special hands.
Today, we want to back up a little bit as we consider, “who is this man called Moses?” We see that basically, Moses is a child of destiny. Jeremiah 1:4-5. Almighty God made it clear that before any of us ever came into this world, we were known by God. He knew our parents. He brought them together to produce a very special person and that person has a specific assignment that the Almighty God has for him. Church Gist. So you are not here by accident. That is very important. You and I are children of destiny. God knew what he was doing when he brought us into the world. He will use any means to make sure he gets you here. There’s no accident in the birth of any child.
Occasionally, parents are desperately looking for a boy and God gives them a girl because it is the girl he wants to send for a time like this. He knows what he is doing. He knows the end from the beginning. Church Gist. He knows your end before you were born. Moses was a child of destiny. That’s good news for you and I. We too are children of destiny.
What exactly do we mean by saying Moses was a child of destiny?
Genesis 15:13-14, Exodus 12:35-36. When the children of Israel were leaving Egypt, the Almighty God said, “they spoiled the Egyptians.” It means that they practically raided the treasuries of Egypt. The Egyptians were so eager to let them go that they gave to children of Israel anything they asked for. They left loaded with the wealth of Egypt prophesied more than 400 years before. Church Gist. Don’t ever think that God does not know where you’re going to end. That’s very important – he knows where you will end. So you are a child of destiny just like Moses and that’s joy for anyone to know that: “Moses was a child of destiny, the Heavens opened unto him. I’m a child of destiny; one day, the heavens will open to me also.”
So the devil was waiting for Moses. He knew what God prophesied that at the particular period in history, the children of Israel were going to leave Egypt. So the devil was waiting for him. That someone is going to be born very soon who would lead Israel out of Egypt. So around the time when Moses was to be born, suddenly, the King made a decree. Exodus 1:15-17. Church Gist. It will take a man to lead these people out of Egypt so the King made a decree. The Bible said Moses escaped death from even the hands of the midwives because the King said, “if it’s a girl that is born, let the girl live. If it’s a boy, kill him.” The midwives did not obey the King because God was in control. God has been in control of your life long before you were born. He was in control the day you came to this world.
I was trying to explain to some of my children that, “oh, praise God some of you came at a time when things were much better. In the time people like me was born, there’s nobody called a midwife, no hospital, maternity center.” When you were born, your umbilical cord was cut with any knife that the old woman in the house can find. Church Gist. The knife that only God knows how many germs were there. But somehow we survived. We were born in a time that if we dare fall sick, they give us concoctions that they put together and there was no dosage. The more you drink of it, they thought, that’s the better for you. When you are sick and your body is very hot, temperature extreme, that’s the time Mama will put you at her back and wrap cloth round you so you can get hotter and yet we survived because we were all children of destiny.
You are here and we escaped death because in Deuteronomy 32:39, the Almighty God says, “I am the one who decides who will live; I am the one who decides who will die …” Which is another good news for you today. Nobody can kill you unless God is ready; it doesn’t matter how many attempts the enemy may make on your life, only God can kill. Church Gist. That is good news because we are living in very dangerous times. You don’t know who is a friend, or an enemy, or those who are planning to destroy you but be at peace Child of God. You won’t die unless God says so and until he is ready to bring you back home, you are here – safe and secure.
So, Moses was a child of destiny, death was waiting for him when he came and then, God made sure he will not die. God did something extra: he got this boy raised by his arch enemy. The very person that this boy was going to bring down on his knees was the one who paid for his maintenance. It shows you that God is the Almighty. God got his mother to put him in a basket, put him in a river. He got the princess to come to bathe at the right time, found the boy, pulled him out of the water, got his mother again to come and take care of him and then she paid for the upkeep. Then when the boy was old enough, they brought him to the palace. He was going up and down, trained, raised by the very people that he was going to spoil later on in life.
He says in his word, Psalms 23:5. You have been growing, succeeding, prospering even though you are surrounded by enemies because there is a power that is above all powers. There is a God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the Lord of Hosts himself. When he says you will prosper in the presence of your enemies, so shall it be. Then, Moses began to grow. There is something within him that kept on telling him, “you’re like a prince now in Egypt but you have a purpose.” Destiny kept on beating in his heart telling him, “you’re born a deliverer; you’re not to stay here in Egypt pretending to be a prince. This very people that are being treated as slaves, they’re your true flesh and blood and you have an assignment for them.”
So one day, according to Exodus 2:11-12, Moses went to see where his flesh and blood were moulding blocks. He saw an Egyptian ill treating a Hebrew boy and here he comes, riding in like a prince of Egypt. He said, what is this injustice all about? Then, he intervened and in intervening, his anger got the better of him and he killed the Egyptian. There are many of you who from time to time, something within you tells you, you’re more than who you think you are. Deep down within you, you know you’re not here for fun; You’re here for a mighty purpose. That thing keeps pushing you telling you that God has an assignment for you.
– I pray, for every one listening to me today that the assignment that God has for you, he will reveal to you today!
We learnt a big lesson from Moses. He tried to achieve the purpose of God by using raw physical strength and how terribly he failed. If there is any lesson to learn from Moses, from that incident is that according to Zechariah 4:6, it’s not by physical power, physical might, but by the spirit of the Almighty God. The assignment God has for you cannot be achieved by human ability; you’re going to need the spirit of the living God to achieve it because the purpose of God for your life is too big for you to achieve it on your own strength. Where God is taking you to cannot be reached by human reasoning, ability, education, at all. Each time I look back on my own life, I found that step by step, God led me to where I am.
I have said it before, “a mathematician should not be a Pastor.” Why? Because Mathematics and Christianity, logically speaking are running in parallel lines. The Mathematician goes by proofs. You prove it, I’ll believe it. Christianity says, ‘you believe it, I will prove it.’ It said the just shall live by faith. Then the Almighty God crossed the parallel lines; he grabbed a mathematician and turned him to a Pastor. Only God can do that.
I can tell you stories upon stories that led me to where I am today and thank God he is still in control and I know there is a great future ahead of all of us. But we are going to need the Spirit of the living God. It’s not by power, might, but by the Spirit.
Then, what about the days in the desert because as a result of the mistake of Moses, he ended up in the backside of the desert and was there for 40 years. Several lessons to learn one of which is: destiny could be delayed but it will not be denied.
You could take the example of Joseph: Genesis 37:5-11. You know how everything went one way or the other, he was sold into slavery, got himself into prison for being true to God and in prison he met certain people, helped them. One got to the palace, he told him don’t forget me, that fellow just forgot him promptly. Why? Because for your ultimate destiny, God has a timetable. I can tell you that when finally the brothers of Joseph came to him, fell before his face and said, “we be your servants,” in Genesis 50:15-22, I’m sure Joseph would have remembered, “ah! This is where God was taking me. Where these my brothers can come and bow down.” So when God was ready, that’s when all of a sudden the heavens opened.
When you read Exodus 2:23-25, the children of Israel was suffering but God was counting the years. When the Almighty God saw that the particular time that he had in mind had come, he said, “Alright now, let’s do something about it.” That’s when Exodus 3 followed. That’s when the heavens opened unto Moses. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; Acts 2:1-4. There is a time that God has attached to your destiny. My prayer is that the time will be now. Habakkuk 2:3. Where God is taking you to, you’re going to arrive. There might seem to be things that seem to be causing a delay but the Almighty God is working his purpose out.
– I believe in the mighty name of Jesus Christ that the day for somebody to suddenly see the Heaven opening is today!
Why? This is because God is never late; he’s always on time. Psalms 46:1. He comes in at the right time. Never too late and you can’t force him. As soon as the time comes, certain things will work out for your glory. Which is why he says in his Word concerning some of you who are listening to me who have not yet surrendered your life to him, 2 Corinthians 6:2, God is saying there is an accepted time. For your salvation, today is the day of salvation.
