This month has been declared: ‘Success, your heritage’ and today we are going to be looking at ‘TOTALITY OF SUCCESS – PART 2’. Every time that we talk about success, we are talking about one succeeding in succession and making satisfactory progress in life. Church Gist. You are not termed to be totally successful if your success is not all round. You must be successful in seven areas before you can say that, ‘I am totally successful’, the totality of success comprises seven areas and I will be dissecting them in all the Services today.
So we are going to be looking at the seven determinants of total success. In the First Service, I said that if you have to be successful, there has to be:
1. Spirituality
You must be spiritual because no man can be successful if they are not spiritual. Spiritually, you must be successful, this is where you don’t play with your spiritual life – It lays the foundation for your success. Church Gist. If you are not spiritually sound, the devil will take you for a ride and then you can also backslide.
2. Right mentality
Man is a Spirit, he has a soul and dwells in the body 1 Thessalonians 5:23. But the mentality of any man or woman determines their level of productivity, prosperity and progress in life 3 John 3:2. The prosperity of the mind and the body matters a lot. When your mind is tailored by the Word of God, you will have extraordinary success without sweat. Church Gist. Hear me brothers and sisters, never settle for mediocrity Proverbs 23:7, you cannot be greater than what you think, so watch what you think. When you don’t think, you will stink and when you stink, you will sink. God forbid! Genesis 11:6. Every time that your mind is upgraded, your life will go forward Romans 12:2.
Hear me, an undeveloped mind is the most dangerous thing in life. When you say, ‘This nation is undeveloped’, you are only saying, ‘This nation has poor minds’. Don’t think that an undeveloped nation does not have streets, electricity and roads, no! The minds of the people are poor and so they are undeveloped Genesis 13:14-15. Church Gist. So the elasticity of your growth is not determined by God, it is determined by how far you think. Hear this, certificates don’t make great, it is the productive use of the mind that makes great.
We have come to a point, especially in this part of the world where people think that acquiring degrees is what determines how successful one becomes. Hear this, if you acquire a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) degree with a poor mind, you will be poor. Until your mind is upgraded, your certificate will have no meaning. Church Gist. Don’t misquote me, I’m not playing down on school, school is very important but that is not the yardstick for success. If your mind is poor and you acquire degrees, you will still be a poor person. As you are acquiring degrees, make sure that your mind is upgraded. So it is the level of your mental renewal that determines the measure of your success.
Salvation does not nullify the functionality of your mind, when Christianity is void of the use of the mind, it becomes stupidity. Many of us are born again but our minds are so poor, they are not upgraded and it is your responsibility to stir up your mind for maximum productivity otherwise, it will remain dormant and inactive. If your mind is not upgraded, life will remain static and frustrating. Anytime that you see yourself not going forward, watch what your mind is thinking and what it is able to comprehend. If your mind is low, your life will be low, it is your mental capacity that determines your wealth. Church Gist. If you give a man fifty billion naira and he has a mental capacity of five million naira, that money will drop to five million naira and if the mental capacity of that man is fifty billion naira, he will take that money to fifty billion naira. It is not money that makes people, it’s their mental capacity.
How do I stir up my mind for success?
a) Be a productive thinker
Every man of impact is a productive thinker Proverbs 20:5. Thinking is not about carnality, God is a Spirit, The Most Holy God and yet the Greatest Thinker Jeremiah 29:11 – So God thinks and that’s why He could tell man, ‘Come, let us reason together’ Isaiah 1:18. If God your Father thinks, then productive thinking should be your identity. The brighter your thoughts the higher you will go in life, think possibility thoughts Mark 9:23. There is nothing conceivable in life that is not achievable. Every progress ever recorded in history is a product of sound reasoning – Only possibility thinkers see the way forward!
-I see you go forward.
If you look at great Scientists and Inventors all over the world, they are all men with a possibility mindset. Thomas Edison, the man who invented the incandescent lamp, when he was asked why it took him time to achieve the final result and then he said, ‘I was thinking of how to eliminate failure’. This man’s mind was something else. They asked him why he failed in previous experiments before he succeeded in one and he said, ‘No! I didn’t fail, I only discovered several ways by which it was impossible to generate an incandescent lamp’.
You know why we should be productive? I will say this to you in a little way – If your mind is not productive you will wear people out. If you have ever worked with people whose mind is low, they will drain you and you will talk and talk and talk. Two young men were working with me yesterday, I didn’t know when I hit one person’s head and said, ‘You want to kill me’? We were doing these seven points together and one of them was very dull. Church Gist. With the way that I work, if you work with me then you will know that your school will be kept aside. I challenged myself when I became a Pastor because I knew that I was going to teach Professors so I pushed myself to a point where if you are in this Church, you will wonder whether you went to school at all – I developed and pushed myself to that point.
So while we were working on the seven points, I was also with six of them and one person was still on one point and I said, ‘Excuse me, you are still on this one’? And every time that I go to him, he will make excuses and I told him, ‘You won’t come here again. I was angry, I didn’t know when I became agitated. If your mental capacity is not improving, you will wear people out, you will stress people. Don’t say that they hate you in your office, your mental system is poor. Church Gist. That you are born again does not mean that you are only speaking in tongues, start upgrading your mind. Today we use the Church to cover up the truth. ‘They hate me in my office’, they don’t hate you, you are very stupid’! That’s the truth! There are very stupid people in the Body of Christ 🎶 Jesus is coming soon, Amen 🎶 You give them something of thirty minutes, they will do it for three hours.
On Thursday I saw a display of this thing that I am teaching. I told a young man to handle a file and within five minutes, he was confused. You know that your mental system is developed when they give you a multitasking role – They give you four to five things at a time and you do it without mistakes. There are people if you give them two assignments you will just see confusion everywhere, they will say ‘Sir, you sent me nah…’ When you see a multitasking man, he will stay on one seat and do fifty things but if you give somebody who has a poor mental development two assignments, he will say, ‘Sir, how will I do this when you send me the other one’! Church Gist. I had a young man who was working with me, he was a part-time Pastor. He said, ‘Sir, I sat with you and I observed that you multitask, you can do fifty things at a time! So give me four assignments’. He’s a Pastor, a medical doctor by training so he assists the doctor in the school, he was also a Chaplain, a Pastor in a Church and also my research officer – And he was doing all of them successfully.
I said, ‘How were you able to do it?’ and he said, ‘I saw that you are able to do so many things at the same time’ – ‘You are talking with the school at the same time you are preparing a Message and praying for the sick’, yet I won’t show any sign of tiredness. Church Gist. Watch this, if you give that to a man whose mind is not developed, just tell him ‘Bring my clothes and make calls’, he will say, ‘Sir, I forgot to call the person because you asked me to bring your clothes’! But for the man whose mind is developed as he is going to bring the clothes, he will make the call. Let’s not use the Church to cover the truth. I want the Church to sit up and stop deceiving ourselves.
Benefits of productive thinking:
i. You will generate ideas Matthew 7:7-8
The world is ruled by men and women of ideas in every field of endeavours. Wealth is a function of man’s capacity to think so wealth is a function of ideas. So the more ideas you have, the more wealthy you become. You know? Wealth is not money, wealth is ideas. Now, I said, The poor talk about money, then the rich talk about things. Church Gist. Oh, I want to buy a designer’s bag, can you see my house and jet? But when you meet a wealthy man, they will say, I just got a new idea. ‘An idea came to me to be able to do this’ Check the category you belong to! And we must belong to the class of the wealthy. But there are too many poor people on earth and all they talk about is money. Even as you are in Church now, you are saying ‘If I can get money now’! You are a poor person’. You don’t need money, you need ideas.
ii. You will enjoy promotion
When you are a thinker, you will enjoy promotion. Joseph for instance was promoted in Egypt by thinking in Genesis 41. Church Gist. Mental work is superior to muscle work. Avoid complaining in your workplace that they are not promoting you, think and be innovative and you will be promoted.

What are the aids to productive thinking?
A. Associate with smarter brains Proverbs 27:17
One of the secrets of great people is that they have thinking companions. Look at me, I am very close to Bishop Oyedepo, I was with him the day before yesterday. He just said, ‘David! Come up’! Friday night and Thursday night, we spoke after Service. Who is close to you? Daniel had thinking companions – Shadrach, Meshak and Abednego in Daniel 2:17-18. Church Gist. You either meet them physically or through their materials. Jesus was also with the doctors in the Temple Luke 2:45-48. Read journals, read books, listen to relevant Messages and tapes. Associate with smarter people, you don’t have to meet them physically, you can meet them through their books.
B. Concentration Acts 10:19a
Thinking requires time and a lack of concentration in the process of thinking is what makes us lose ideas when they come. Church Gist. Invest time in thinking about your job and assignments and you will not lack ideas that will lift you up 1 Timothy 4:15.

C. Utilize the night season
The night season is not the only time for you to sleep, that’s the time to also think Psalms 16:7. Secrets are revealed in the night seasons, great men don’t play with their night season. It is how you utilize the night that will determine what you will become in the day. Church Gist. Night seasons shouldn’t be just for phone calls, let it not be the time to talk and chat but a time to think. Don’t say, ‘I like midnight calls, also like midnight thoughts’!
Declarations: I will think productive thoughts.
If you think well in the night you will find out that your brain will assimilate things and produce outstanding results.
Obstacles to mental exploits:
i. Sin
When you literally live in sin, you will destroy your mental capacity. Sin corrupts mental capacity Daniel 1:8. Church Gist. Every man of integrity naturally enjoys mental dignity.
ii. Accepting the status quo
Many get satisfied with where they are and believe that they have done their best but there is always room for progress Proverbs 4:18. Always try to be better no matter who you are in life. Where you are is not good enough for your tomorrow, if you don’t move away now it will stink Micah 2:10. Church Gist. The pride in the past achievement will paralyze your future, there is a place called forward. So shift! Sometimes you succeed so much to the point where you think that you have reached the best but there is another room. Make every end a bend – When you get to the end of an achievement, keep moving. Always ask yourself, ‘What next’?
iii. The trap of past failures
For some of us, because we have failed before it affects our mind Isaiah 43:18-19. Please put the past behind you, many can’t make mental exploits because of their past failures and misfortunes Phillippians 3:13-14. Church Gist. If you don’t let go of the past, you may hinder the bright future that God has for you.

iv. Comparison
Comparing yourself with someone else affects productive thinking. You are just who you are, don’t try to be someone else. Stay in your own lane, know your strength and don’t be like somebody else 2 Corinthians 10:12. Even wives, don’t try to compete with your husband, the two of you are not the same. Church Gist. Build in your own strength, your husband may be good in Mathematics while you may be good in English, sharpen your English. You can’t be like somebody else, do your own business 2 Thessalonians 4:11.
When some people preach, they will shout but I can stay in one place and pass my points, that is the person’s strength. Do your own thing! Some people will say, ‘You see that guy when he speaks English, his English is very ‘phonetical’. Okay, I will be very practical in my teaching. There is a young man that I love so much in songs his name is called, Nathaniel Bassey. He doesn’t form another person’s voice like other Nigerians would want to be – Trying to sing like the White Men, his voice is his voice. Church Gist. There is no day a photocopy can be like the original. No matter how Nigerians live Overseas, a pure American will say, ‘This person has an accent’. Because the ones who are born here, who ate garri before they left (Laughing), somehow that thing is there.
When they are angry, they will say, ‘O boy, take time oo’, that’s when you will know that the blood of America did not enter into them. Church Gist. The pure Americans will still pick it and say that this person is an African. The ones who are born there are different because their tongue was heavy before they got there to sing. When Nigerians want to sing and they are singing like Oyibo (White Men), I get disgusted! You can never sing like the White Man because he was born with that tongue. You don’t have to practice talking like an Akwa Ibom man, he was born with the tongue. He will say ‘Irn’t it’? Instead of ‘Isn’t it’? (Laughing). Church Gist. And you now want to sing and you are stressing your voice to sing like Oyibo, you can’t get it right. Yes, pronounce your words properly and sing with your voice.
Nathaniel Bassey sings and a White or Black Man loves his voice. This young man does not even do his hair one kind, he didn’t change his hair to start doing dreadlocks the way Nigerian musicians are doing now, my friend you are not a worldly musician for goodness sake you are a Christian. You will now cut your hair even the ones in this Church here, I knock them and say, ‘My friend, don’t do that thing’! Once they get an album, they will do their hair somehow. Nobody buys your music album because of your hairstyle, they buy it because of your voice. It will hinder you – don’t compare yourself with anybody else, just use the voice that God gave you.
And Bishop Oyedepo said something during their anniversary, ‘Any song without JESUS is no longer a Christian song, it has become a secular song. The Name of Jesus must be in the song because that’s the only thing that satan wants to remove from the song’. All the devil is after is not your shout or voice, if the Name of Jesus is not there he is happy and it has become a secular song. So all our musicians should take note! – Bishop Oyedepo was addressing musicians all over the world during their 42nd anniversary last Monday. You musicians, stop wondering about what others are doing.
3. Healthy living
Listen, there is a part of success that many people don’t know about but it is very important 3 John 1:2. So there will be no totality of success if this your body is not successful. Do you know that success can never be complete if this physical body is not taken care of? Healthy living means taking care of your body. Health is wealth, wealth without health is a disaster. Church Gist. There are so many people today whose health was ruined because of their poor health and all they worked for was lost because of ill health Mark 5:25-26. Wealth without health is poverty. Your physical body needs to be in order to accomplish God’s purpose for your life. One of the ways that satan corrupts people’s success is through sickness and diseases. We have heard of marriages that crumbled because of health challenges John 10:10.
-For everybody who is sick, at the sound of my voice, I command you to be healed in the Name of Jesus.
Sickness and diseases can cease your health and wealth, destroy your life, business, career, marriage and even education. A man called Steve Jobs, one of the Co-Founders of Apple, this man has hundreds of billions of dollars but has cancer in his pancreas and at the age of 59, he died. Church Gist. Where is the money? Money could not do it because his health was affected. So you also must make sure that you take care of your health. God wants us to be successful in all areas including our health – Physical success is as important as other forms of success.
Steps to healthy living:
-I see God heal you of every disease Exodus 15:26.
a. If you want to live healthily, give attention to the Word of God Proverbs 4:20-22.
Hear me people of God, any time that you study the Word of God, you are taking divine drugs for your physical health and well-being – Always love to take drugs of the Word. Church Gist. I read the Bible as I wake up, no matter what, I must read one or two Chapters and I will pray.
b. Be in Kingdom Service Exodus 23:25
Serving God in Kingdom advancement prayers, soul winning, with your physical time and finances secure sound health Matthew 6:33.
c. Eat healthy Exodus 16:4,8 and 20
One of the greatest laws to physical success and well-being is to eat healthily. Eating anything that you have is not wisdom, it is not anything that you like that you eat, it is what is good for your body. You like sugar but you can’t put six cubes in a tea cup and say, ‘I like it to be over sweet, no! You don’t need any doctor to tell you that you are on your way to the grave. Church Gist. And you say, ‘God is faithful, I will take anointing oil’! (Laughing), see a nutritionist if you are blessed, to arrange your meal plan. Some of us will go to the gym but we don’t balance it well, after we finish in the gym what we eat is more than what we burn out – You burn out five calories and what you are eating now is more than what you burn out.
There are some meals that you know your body reacts to, what do you do? Avoid it. Eat healthily and drink a lot of clean water Daniel 1:8. Don’t drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes and say that you want to live healthy. No nah! The truth is that as long as you keep doing such, your health will keep breaking down. Church Gist. You started the habit one day and you can stop it one day. Cultivate a good eating habit, certain foods are not good for you, stop it. If I tell you something now you will be shocked: I don’t know how my body is, I don’t take pineapples, if I take pineapple now in five minutes, I will sleep. I don’t know medically what it is, I will sleep immediately. It does to me like where you take sleeping drugs and I stop it.
(Phone rings in the congregation) Anybody whose phone rings is a result of poverty, poor people allow their phones to ring in Church. The first sign of poverty under this kind of teaching is what? Poverty. Don’t bother yourself, any man whose phone rings here has a typical poor mindset. Church Gist. Those who want to be wealthy are listening to what to do but poor people are saying, ‘Make this Oga no call and I miss em call oo’. My friend, turn off that thing, I even see the way the phone is ringing. Have you heard the sound of an iPhone ringing while in the Church? You will never hear it. It is all these toys. He is tired looking for who to beg from. My friend off that thing and stop distracting us for nothing.
d. Regular exercise 1 Timothy 4:8
For bodily exercise profiteth little, for that little one (Exercise) do it. You know for somebody like me, if you count how I move on Sundays alone for the four Services, I have moved for how many kilometers? Very soon, I will wear that thing to be calculating it – Only standing here on Sundays, moving here and there are close to fifty minutes multiplied by four plus other movements, you could have jogged from here to your community. Church Gist. That I’m not fat, just know that I discipline myself oo. I told you people that it’s not everything that I eat, at my age some people would have been fat, especially with the little money that God has blessed me with – For everything, they will say, ‘Bring’! Even food has to be controlled. And I said, ‘I’ve not seen a billionaire at the top who is obese’, it’s poor people who are fat, you know? If you are at the top, you will want to work, you want to be alive to enjoy the money but poor people will say, ‘Bring am, I don’t know if I will still see it again to eat tomorrow’!
Do you know something? Fatness came through food. So to burn it off, you have to also discipline yourself through dieting. Exercise is only 20 percent, dieting is 80 percent, it is through food that you gain weight so you have to also discipline yourself to lose weight. Everything they are telling you, drink this tea, all of them will not work, you must discipline yourself to change your diet. Church Gist. Champions do what they hate to get what they want, you must discipline yourself, you may eat food that you don’t like. One of my sons here told me that he had to come down because he was choking while sleeping because of fatness. He said, ‘No, do I want to die? I have to work on myself’! He’s reducing every day!
e. Walk in love 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (AMP)
All this hatred makes you die quickly. If you want to be successful, walk in love. Don’t walk with people who are always complaining around you. Learn to let go of things and to forgive, it is good for your health 1 John 3:14. Bitterness embitters life and disconnects you from the grace of God. For some of you, the thing they did to you four years ago is still in your heart that’s why your body is paining you up and down.
f. The law of rest Genesis 2:2-3
God requires that we rest – For those who are actually working oo. Rest is not for someone who is not doing anything – You say, ‘I’m going to go on vacation, what did you do’? God rested because He worked Genesis 2:3, Mark 6:31. If you refuse to rest, they will lay you to rest. God forbid! What servicing is to a machine is what rest is to the body. When I came back from Lagos, I knew that I had overstretched myself, so I had to sleep before I started working again. Church Gist. These days, I don’t go to bed late, I have changed my pattern. I try as much as I can to go to bed on time on Saturdays because it tells on me on Sunday, that’s wisdom! You can’t follow me, I change anytime oo. Please rest oo, don’t think that because I work that I don’t rest, I plan my life. To be successful everywhere without being successful in your health is to fail ultimately.
In the next Service, I’m going to teach ‘Capacity building’. Crude oil has so much capacity but it must be refined – You have some potential but you must go through some refinement. Until you go through the refinery of life, what is in you can’t come out! Capacity is more important than money. Do you know there is a young man called Lionel Messi, very brief. This guy is about 36 to 37 years old but they are to pay him four hundred million pounds for one year, that is the age when people retire in football. Church Gist. That’s all the football careers of some people from the day that they were born till they retire, that is what he is to get for one year. He has improved his capacity to a point where value has been placed on him that is very expensive. So you don’t look for money, look for how you will place value on your life. When you make yourself of value, you become very valuable. Stop looking for an increase in pay at your office, make yourself valuable and they will place value on you, it may take time. That’s why aircraft are very expensive and bicycles are cheap because you can produce them in one week. The time you are spending to develop yourself is not wasted.
My value and some other Preacher’s value is not the same. I have developed myself, so the value placed on me is very high. Yesterday on the plane, a man of God was sitting by me, it was left for him to say ‘I don’t like you’! You know there is a way someone will frown and you will see the hatred, we greeted oo but you can see that hatred. He was there before me but everyone on the plane was greeting and wanted to sit by my side and one of them who came to greet him came and sat on my side and he became angry. But the value that I have and the value that he has are not the same. Church Gist. So you don’t look for money, just make yourself a man and woman of value and then they will put a big price on you. Rolls-Royces are more expensive than bicycles. I will also teach you social success – Who is around you? And which environment did you find yourself in?
The poor cannot relate with the poor otherwise he will remain poor. A poor man must come out of befriending poor people to befriending wealthy men to become wealthy. If you are poor and a poor man is your friend then you are not ready to come out of poverty. If you are poor, then look for a wealthy man to be your friend so as to think like a wealthy man. Church Gist. Birds of the same feather flock together so they cannot come out of that company, so if you are poor don’t go and befriend a fellow poor man, go for the rich not for the money but to know what he knows. Check the company of the people that you keep, that’s the reason why you are where you are – Until you change that company, your life will never change and your life will never improve beyond them – That’s social success.
It’s not travelling from Nigeria to America, no! It’s travelling from old friends to new friends, it’s not about the country, it’s about relationships. Is Mike Murdock in Nigeria? But do I relate with him? Yes, from his materials. So I live an American life in Nigeria, the light does not go off in my house, I use an elevator, I don’t use a staircase. Am I in Nigeria? I have a continental chef, my food is not cooked by an African chef, I use a continental chef to cook my food. When the Americans come, they say, ‘Boy! The chairs that I use in my house are American. Church Gist. So I’m in Nigeria and I live like Americans and even more expensive than them because I relate with those who are there. My wife has no friends, not one. It’s only me that is her friend, even me sometimes I will look at her and say, ‘This my wife eh’! So I’m the one sharpening her, I’m the only friend that she has – Fine man. It’s better to be alone than to be in the company of those who are going nowhere. Let me tell every poor man, ‘Don’t be friends with your fellow poor people otherwise you will never shift from poverty’! I refused to remain with poor people because I don’t want to be a poor man, association matters a lot – Social success!
Declaration: Father, the totality of success is mine, I will be fit spiritually and physically from today.
-I decree that anything that makes your body not to work comes to an end.
-Be sound in your body, receive sound health in Jesus’ Name!
And please for those of you on social media, the things that I’m talking about are my money, don’t think that it is Church’s money I am a blessed man. You can say, ‘What is he doing’?
