We want to continue with our series, FOR WHOM THE HEAVENS OPEN. Text is Joshua 5:13-15. We have been looking at this particular text closely. After we have looked at the fact the Angel here introduced himself as the Captain of the Host of the Lord which gave us the inkling that angels are in categories: Seraphims, Cherubims, Archangels, Angels that can stand in the presence of the Lord, etc. Church Gist. We moved on to the question that Joshua asked this angel after he had said, who are you? Are you for us or are you against us? It is informative that we said, as mighty as angels are, they are not to be worshipped. They are our servants.
Probably we also need to take note that Joshua saw a man with a sword in his hand and he challenged him. The Almighty God didn’t ask you to run from the enemy because by the time Joshua was already approaching this man, the man already had a sword in his hand – drawn. As a good soldier of Christ you are not to run from the enemy. You are to face the enemy squarely. Church Gist. We’ve done some teaching on that before but I just feel a leading of the Lord to mention it to you once again, when the Almighty God says you are to put on the whole armour of God because you are not wrestling with flesh and blood, there was no provision made for your back. In the armour of God there is something for your head, chest, loins, feet, sword of the Spirit, the Word of God in your hand, shield, etc but there was no armour for your back. It is because you are not to turn your back to the enemy. Child of God, stop running from the enemy.
The Elders have a saying, “it is he who runs who will be pursued.” Stop running. Stop even saying it with your mouth, “Witches or Wizards are pursuing me.” It is an insult to your God. If you are truly born again, greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. There is no weapon formed against you that will prosper. Church Gist. Stop running! What the Word of God says is that you are to resist the devil. You are not to run from the devil. When you resist the devil he will flee. The Almighty God has given you enough assurance, you are going to win. Whether the enemy likes it or not, you will laugh last.
It is important for everyone of us concerning our future! All those who are pursuing us should be running from us. Take your stand; stand firm. Church Gist. Ephesians 6:13. Stand even in the evil day because all the battles you are seeing now they are going to end up in testimonies.
Joshua went to the man, “who are you? Why are you here? Are you for us or are you against us?” Church Gist. The man then introduced himself and told Joshua, I am here as a captain in the Army of the Lord.
Then we looked at the question that Joshua asked him, are you for us or are you against us? Church Gist. We said that section opened our eyes to the fact that there are 4 possible ways that God could relate to us when we are fighting a war.
When God takes over your fight, you will win even if the battle is by land because the God you serve is the original General and I think I must have told you before that one of the greatest headaches of all generals is what to do with the dead bodies of their enemies. Church Gist. They don’t want to do the unpleasant job of burying their enemies. They don’t want to waste time digging graves to bury their enemies. They want to pursue the rest of the enemies and wipe them out. But if they leave these dead corpses all over the place, they will rot and that could lead to a plague that would then affect the Army even of the victorious general. Church Gist. The general has the unpleasant task of making sure that anything that can boomerang against the Army is taken care of.
1. Now when it comes to God, if he is fighting your enemies by land he does 2 things at the same time: not only kill them but bury them. Numbers 16:1-34. It is interesting that you take note of this particular aspect of the story because God said, sooner or later, people are going to gang up against you. Church Gist. Isaiah 54:15-17. If you’re succeeding, they will gang up against you and it may interest you that some of them might even be your relatives. The Word of God made it clear: a man’s foes will be they of his own household. But he said that they that gather together against you will fall for your sakes. Meaning what? If you are in a meeting where they are ganging up against a man of God, run! Church Gist. Run because God has predicted it before you were born that they are going to gang up against you but that those who gang up against you, he has decreed what will be their end.
Never never join in a plot against the man of God. These people ganged up against Moses and Moses said, “what have I done? How can you be angry with me because God is speaking to me?” As they say where I come from, “How can you be angry against someone that God has chosen to bless?” Church Gist. If you’re upset because God is prospering a man, you are fighting against the one who is prospering him not him and the one who has called him will defend him.
When God decided to move he just told Moses, ‘step aside; it’s not your fight, it’s mine and I do it my own way.’ God spoke to the Earth (Psalm 24:1), the Earth opened its mouth and swallowed all these plotters and not only them, but their entire family, friends, all those who joined in ganging up against Moses. Church Gist. When God takes over the fighting, you win on land.
2. You win by sea: Exodus 14:1-end. Again you see the way God shows that he is the original admiral. This time, not only did he wipe out all his enemies, he did it in a place where you won’t have to worry about burying them. The fish were there to do the rest of the job for him. So if the enemy against you is ‘mamiwater’ – enemy from the Sea, don’t worry yourself; God has enough fish to deal with them. Church Gist. Mark 4:35-41. When the Almighty God wanted to get the children of Israel through the Red Sea if the Sea refused to part, the ground under it will shoot up because the ground obeys his maker.
Go round the world, you will see some very beautiful islands where people go on holidays. Find out how these islands were created. It’s because there is an eruption almost all the time – a volcano. Church Gist. The Earth comes out of the Sea and becomes an island. If God wants to make a way for you in the Sea and the sea says, no I am not to give way, the ground under the sea will shoot up.
3. If the fight is by air, you will win because your (my) God is the original Air Marshal. Psalm 2:1-5; Joshua 10:10-11. God was the first one to throw bombs. When some people ganged against Joshua, not one king not 2, when they said this boy is succeeding too much, let’s deal with him. God said, alright let’s see. Church Gist. The Bible tells us that God began to send big stones, breaking their heads that at the end of the day those whose heads were broken by the stones were more than those that Joshua killed with the sword.
So who are witches, wizards, or those who fly at night in the presence of the Most High God? I am sure some of you will remember the testimony of a woman. She came with her husband to the Church because the husband said he had problems. Church Gist. The tide turned for the husband but suddenly we didn’t see the wife anymore. We followed up and the woman said, I am not coming to your Church because since I started coming, I could no longer fly at night. I decree just in case there is anyone dealing with witches and wizards, they won’t fly agarin!
4. When he takes over the battle, you win by land, sea, air, you win physically. John 5:2-9. The man at the pool was saying, “I have tried for 38 years, I have been defeated” – defeated by someone else. Church Gist. But because on that day Heavens opened unto him and the original physician came to visit him, there was no more defeat. There were several other people who were sick there but the Heavens opened unto one particular person. He didn’t have to struggle anymore. Victory came to him where he was.
– Your victory will come to you in your house today!
That day he won physically without having to fight.
5. If God takes over your battle you will win materially. 2 Kings 4:1-7. You need to read these stories with understanding. Try and see with the eye of the spirit what happened on that day. Church Gist. Those creditors came gloating – “you are finished woman! Pay us or your children are gone.” They knew she couldn’t pay. It’s like a man coming to say, ‘unless you pay that debt that you’re owing us, the house you used as collateral will be gone.’ As they are telling you, they are already thinking of their friend to whom they will sell your house. That is the truth and some of you know what I am talking about. Church Gist. This widow was fighting a battle she couldn’t possibly win but the Almighty God took over. God must have said to her, “My little girl, let’s surprise them.”
By the time they came back she said, ‘how much did you say I am owing? Okay, here is your money.’ They must have wondered, ‘where did you get the money from?’ Church Gist. The Bible tells us, not only was the debt paid, the woman never had to borrow again. I still don’t know how God will solve your problems but I am praying that the Heavens will open unto you and all your needs will be more than met.
6. When he takes over your battles, you win spiritually: this is because if it is a demon that is bothering you, he has taken care of a demon before. Church Gist. Mark 1:23-27 – this should remind you why you should not be at home on Sunday; you should be in Church so that when Jesus comes in, any unclean spirit that is troubling you he will send it out in one word.
If the demons are more than one, if they are 7 as in Luke 8:1-3, just one word and all 7 of them will be gone. Church Gist. You had been a chief among witches and wizards, you become a divine treasurer. What if the demons are a legion? Mark 5:2-20.
If he takes over your battle, you will win by land, sea, air, physically, materially, spiritually. I can assure you, when God is fighting for your your victory is sure! Church Gist. Cross over to the Lord’s side, join the winning side, give your life to Jesus Christ let the Lord of Hosts begin to fight your battles for you and you will be a winner. All round winner!
