24th December 1965: William Branham goes to be with the Lord. Branham was the first American deliverance Minister to successfully campaign in Europe. His ministry reached global audiences with major campaigns held in North America, Europe, Africa and India.
24th December 2002: The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement holds its first Church service in a rented apartment in Ilasamaja, Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria. The Church was founded by Pastor Lazarus Muoka.
24th December 1842: Reverend Henry Townsend and Thomas Birch Freeman hold a meeting that birthed the first “Christmas Day” celebration in Nigeria. Reverend Henry Townsend was an Anglican Priest while Thomas Birch Freeman was an Anglo-African Victorian missionary and botanist. He was also an ordained Wesleyan Methodist minister.
24th December 1842: Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society arrives in Badagry to begin the process of Anglicanization of Nigeria. He is noted for publishing the first Yoruba newspaper which paved the way for print media in Nigeria.
24th December 1946: Jerry Savelle is born. He was an American author and televangelist. He was also the President of Jerry Savelle Ministries International (JSMI). He has written over 70 books including ‘The Favour of God’ and ‘Life Of Faith’.
24th December 2012: In Yobe state on Christmas Eve, gunmen believed to be members of Boko Haram enter the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Peri, near Potiskum. Six Christians including a Pastor were killed before setting the church building ablaze.
24th December 1962: Ibukun Awosika is born. She is a business woman, motivational speaker and an author. She is the first female Chairperson of First Bank of Nigeria. She was appointed a member of Binance Global Advisory Board in September 2022. She is also an ordained Pastor and Founder of the Christian Missionary Fund.
