TITHE IS GOD’S PORTION THAT MAKES THE REST MEANINGFUL
- Bishop David Oyedepo
During the concluding part of his teaching series for May 2025 titled ‘UNDERSTANDING THE MYSTERY OF FINANCIAL FORTUNE IN THE KINGDOM’, Bishop Oyedepo has emphasized the importance of tithing. Church Gist. Quoting him verbatim: “In the School Of Financial Fortune, the demand is simple: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10). It is a demand if you are interested.”

He spoke about how the life of his grandmother inspired him to be an avowed tither and to hate indebtedness. “I had a most humourous explanation of that before I knew Jesus. I asked my grandmother “Why do you carry this money to Church every Sunday?” Because in the Anglican Church, old people go for Communion early in the morning. So she will carry that in her tin, she separates it during the week from all her sales. She said that it is God’s portion that makes the remainder meaningful. I caught it from her but I came to the full realization of it when I became saved. Your tithe makes the balance meaningful. If you are not a tither, they become meaningless. Why? The devourer comes on it. That’s the strongest message I heard growing up on Tithing. Church Gist. God’s portion that makes the remainder meaningful. She died a prosperous woman. She owed nobody. Are there people owing you? She listed them. She was sound. “If they pay, take it. If they don’t give you, I forgive them. Nobody rejoices with debt.” That also made me hate debt growing up. Nobody rejoices with debt. You can’t feel free when you are indebted. You are counting the days. I said I will bring this money on the 27th, today is 27th oh God. What will I do? The remainder has not been meaningful for many because they won’t give God’s portion to Him.
