While ministering during the First Service on Sunday, Apostle Emmanuel Iren of the Celebration Church International, stated the reason why some pastors die at a young age.
He clearly stated, “when pastors die, we spiritualize it. We make statements like: we lost a soldier, Heaven gained…” But in true fact, some of them died because of stress. According to him, due to the demanding nature of members, many pastors don’t get to rest.
He cited an example of how some members who had wanted to see him for counseling on several occasions and when he got to see them because of his busy schedules, they gave him the impression that he is stressed and he needed to rest. According to him, he just ignored their comments because the same people making the suggestion for him to rest are the same people who will be angry when they are unable to see him if challenged.
He also stated that the reason many pastors’ children hate Church is because they don’t get to see their parents very often because of their commitment to Church activities. He also cited an example of how John G. Lake died of exhaustion. Because of the manner in which he died, all his children disappeared from the Church and nursed that grief almost all their lives.
He also beckoned on members to show compassion to their pastors and carry a sense of responsibility as a co-labourer with their pastors. He also advised members to have the same compassion of Moses’ father-in-law who told Moses that if he continued working the way he was working, he would die. “Go and check many Generals in the Body of Christ dying at 55, 53…why?” – He asked.
“The only way for a Church to stay healthy, you must discern as a pastor, the grace of God in others. Even in the Old Testament, God had to take the spirit on Moses and spread it on 70 others” – he stated.
