A peek into November-The Month of renowned mega churches

It had been long awaited but finally, Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries Home of Success has announced the dedication date for what will be known soon as the largest church auditorium on planet earth. With an unverified seating capacity of 120,000 and a footprint of 56,130 square meters, all roads lead to Igwuruta, along Port Harcourt Airport Road on Friday 6th November 2026 to behold one of the wonders of this age.
Several highly notable Christian church buildings, have their anniversaries of dedication celebrated in November.
Church Gist details some of the most prominent in history across different denominations.
First are the 4 major basilicas in Rome:
Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran This basilica is the cathedral church of the Pope as the Bishop of Rome and is considered by 1.3 billion Roman or Western Catholics as the “mother and head of all churches in the world”. The anniversary of its dedication by Pope Sylvester I in 324 AD is celebrated annually on 9th November.
Basilica of Saint Peter Located in Vatican City and considered the most famous church in Christendom, the current structure was dedicated on 18 November 1626, after over a century of construction. It was built over what Catholics consider-the traditional tomb of Saint Peter the Apostle. It was the largest church building in the world for about 4 centuries or precisely 363 years and will mark its 400th anniversary since dedication in November 2026.
Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls This major basilica, built over the grave of Saint Paul, was also originally constructed by Emperor Constantine in November 324. After being destroyed by fire in 1823, it was rebuilt and consecrated by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
Presently considered the largest in use Church auditorium facility in the world, Glory Dome (Dunamis International Gospel Centre): This 100,000-seat capacity auditorium, one of the world’s largest, was dedicated on 24 November 2018. Built in less than 4 years, It is pastored by Dr Pastor Paul Idoko Enenche of Nigeria. The Church is located along the Airport Road in Nigeria’s capital the Federal Capital Territory (F.C.T)
Faith Arena (formerly Faith Miracle Centre, Upper Adesuwa, G. R. A Benin City, Edo State (Church of God Mission International): A large auditorium often referred to as a “stadium church,” it was dedicated on November 2, 1986 some 3 years before Our Lady of Peace Basilica, after 3 years of construction
It sits close to 10,000 worshippers and is considered Africa’s first stadium Church. The project was led by the Church Founder and Pioneer Pastor, Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa.
International Gospel Center (Word of Life Bible Church): The 25,000-seater headquarters was officially dedicated on 19 November 2000, in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria.The project led by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, a protege of Benson Idahosa, lasted about 5 years
Fargo Gospel Tabernacle (Assemblies of God): A report on the dedication of this building was featured in the November 29, 1930, issue of The Pentecostal Evangel.
The Apostolic Church Nigeria was birthed in revival in 1931. From small gatherings to a mighty Pentecostal movement, the story has always been one of faith, sacrifice, and prayer.
Today the National Temple, LAWMNA stands proudly overlooking the Expressway at the International Convention Ground, Ketu, Lagos —It commenced in 1986 by Pastor Isaiah Ghele Sakpo and was completed in 2011 by Pastor Gabriel Olutola.
For 25 years, brick by brick, prayer by prayer, faith by faith — until the promise stood fulfilled.
This Temple is not just walls and pillars, it is a symbol of God’s covenant with His Church.
The National Temple of the Apostolic Church Nigeria was dedicated on 19 November 2011 under the leadership of Pastor Gabriel Olutola. On 4th August 1957, Prophet Isaiah Ghele Sakpo prophesied about building a temple that will take hundreds of thousands as part of the ‘Glorious Vision’.
In 1979, Pastor S.G. Adegboyega laid the first foundation of what was to be the National Temple but Isaiah G. Sakpo later laid a second foundation where the National Temple is presently located in 1986.
Church Gist independently estimates the facility at about 40,000 capacity. However the Church insists that it seats between 100,000 and 150,000 people.
The People’s Salvation Cathedral in Bucharest, Romania, is the largest and tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world.
Built to honor Romanian heroes and celebrate national unity, it serves as the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
The Church has some Record-Breaking Features
- Immense Height: It stands 120 meters (394 feet) tall, making it the tallest Orthodox building globally.
- Massive Bell: It houses the world’s largest free-swinging church bell, weighing 25.2 tons and cast with the face of Patriarch Daniel.
- Unmatched Mosaics: The interior is covered entirely in over 25,000 square meters of intricate Byzantine mosaics, including the largest mosaic of the Virgin Mary ever created.
- Sheer Capacity: The main hall can hold up to 10,000 worshippers simultaneously.
- Cost of ConstructionThe total cost of the structure is estimated between €200 million and €250 million.
- Funding for the project was raised through a combination of public state subsidies, local municipal funds and private donations from Orthodox believers worldwide.
Interestingly, the People’s Salvation Cathedral has 2 major milestone dedication dates due to its multi-stage opening:
Following the completion of its massive interior artwork, the cathedral’s finished mosaics were officially consecrated on October 26, 2025. This date also marked the permanent opening of the church to regular worshippers after 15 years of construction.
However, there was an Initial Altar Consecration. The cathedral was first consecrated on 25 November 2018. This ceremony was jointly led by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and Patriarch Daniel of Romania to mark the centenary of Greater Romania.
The Ark (Living Faith Church Worldwide): This is perhaps the most prominent church projecr awaiting a dedication date. Initially Scheduled for November 29, 2025 but later postponed in order not to sacrifice excellence for speed., The Ark is a 109,345-seat capacity auditorium located in Canaanland, Ota, Nigeria, and is considered to become the largest indoor church arena on the planet on completion. The project is a legacy project of Bishop David Olaniyi Oyedepo, another protege of Benson Idahosa.
The Ark is now likely proposed for dedication in 2027 and it will definitely not be a surprise if its dedication is scheduled for any of the Ember months before December considering the gargantuan level of work required and the fact that the Church prefers to focus on Shiloh, the peak of her yearly activities in the month of December. At dedication, the project would have lasted a little over 6 years making it perhaps the world’s fastest church project when size and labour is juxtaposed with time.
