“In case you’ve ever wondered why I am so vocal about my faith, it is because I have seen God’s hands in my life from the very beginning and even when everything looked like they were crumbling, He always worked it out all for my good. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve fallen short, I’ve done stupid things many times but He still loves me and shows me goodness and mercy. That’s why I sing about Jesus and I am not ashamed of it.” _Johnny Drille.

Born on the 5th of July, 1990 into a Christian family of seven in Edo state, John Ighodaro is known by his artiste name, Johnny Drille. He studied English and Literature at the University of Benin and graduated in 2012.

Johnny started singing in church as a child and later taught himself music production. His father is said to be a clergy man, hence the Christian upbringing. He plays the drum, guitar and keyboard. His love for music has led Johnny into different talent ventures, one of it was the MTN Project Fame (6th edition), where he made it to the last 10 before he got evicted. Since then, Johnny has not relented in giving his fans amazing sounds. He has been nominated for various awards and have won some, one of which is the “Best Alternative Music” award at the Headies.

On various occasions, Johnny has outrightly proclaimed his love and walk with Christ openly. He has done a cover of different Gospel songs like; Reckless Love by Cory Asbury, God Bless You and Keep You by Cambridge Singers, My Heart Will Trust by Hillsong Worship. Johnny has also been spoted at the Celebration Church and The Elevation Church in Lagos leading a worship session and holding conversations. One of Johnny’s endearing songs in celebration of fathers is titled ‘Papa’.

The popular artiste is signed to Mavin records but still maintains his own style and voice, especially his expression for God. One of the things that is pleasing to see is that we walk through the corridors of power and fame and we still hold unto God, Johnny, so far has been able to do this.
