While ministering on Sunday, Apostle Iren of Celebration Church International, cautioned parents to be mindful of the words they use on their children.
He clearly stated, “don’t just give your children good advice, bless them.” He used the story of the birth of John the Baptist as an illustration. When he was to be born, the angel of the Lord appeared to the parents and they were told, “he will be filled with the Spirit from the mother’s womb and he shall not be given to wine.” According to Apostle Iren, those statements were not just advice; they were prophecies.
He further stated that it is one thing to advise and instruct our children, it is a different thing to prophesy over them the kind of life they will have. He also stated that because of continuous prophecy over our children, when sinners try to entice them, they will never consent.
He therefore admonished parents to learn to use the right words on their children. “You that is full of the Holy Spirit, you look at your child and call him a fool and now you are wondering why he is being foolish” – he queried. As parents, one must learn to control his/her anger. “If you cannot control your anger, you are not full of the Spirit” – he concluded.
