Well, let someone shout, “hallelujah!” Shake hand with one or two people, tell him or her, “Today is my day of restoration.”
Once again, congratulations to all of us, we thank God for what he has done, that he has now filled our hearts with joy and our mouth with praise.
Haggai 2:9. The Almighty God is the Alpha as well as the Omega. Revelation 1:8. So from the beginning to the end and all that is in between is under the control of God and one thing we have discovered about God is that he always reserves the best till the last. John 2:1-11. Church Gist. So I have good news for someone here today, what is coming in your future is going to be far far better than the present!
So when you go through the Scriptures you will discover that the latter is almost invariably better than the former. 2 Samuel 12:15-25 – when the boy died, another son was born. Church Gist. His name is called Solomon and the Bible says, God loved him. So the replacement became far far better than the original.
I’ve told the story before, some of you have heard it: my mum had many daughters and only one son. After that one son she said, enough is enough. Church Gist. But after some years, the son died and so they had to beg her to be pregnant again. After a lot of begging, she agreed and I was born. Now today, they always say I am the best thing that happened to Adeboye family.
Have you lost anything at all? I have good news for you: something far better is on the way!
2 Chronicles 1:6-15 – Solomon gave a thousand burnt offerings to God, nobody had ever seen that kind of offering before. As a matter of fact, the priests were surprised – they thought that because Solomon was not very brilliant, he was a spoilt boy, they thought that may be he didn’t know what he was doing. Church Gist. So by the time he had offered 7 burnt offerings, they thought that should be enough. But he told them, “I’ve not even started,” until he gave a thousand burnt offerings. So many offerings that the Almighty God decided to pay him a visit and ask him, “what do you want?” You know the story and he asked for wisdom. God said, “alright, since you have asked for wisdom and understanding, I will give you that. That which you have not asked for, I will add.” The next time that Solomon was going to give a special burnt offering, he didn’t give another one thousand. 2 Chronicles 7:5 – he gave 22,000 burnt offerings plus a 120,000 sheep. His latter was so far superior to the former. Church Gist. The promise of God for him after that was not money, wasn’t just long life but it was something out of this world.
That is why occasionally when some of you who are very close to me give me a gift, you know I always pray a prayer for you. The prayer is: next time will be more. Many people don’t know the meaning of that. They think, “ah, is Daddy greedy?” But there is a story before that. Church Gist. I went to preach in Ikoyi, all the big big boys were there. There was this young boy, I didn’t know how he managed to get into that group but he got into the group. When I finished preaching he came to me and said, I have never heard this kind of sermon before and I want to give you a gift. You see this boy? Very small boy, he only had 10 petrol stations – that’s how small he is but compared to the people that he was mixing with, he was a small boy. So he gave me a gift of 10,000 Dollars and I said, “ah! Thank you, next time will be more.” He left my presence angry: “ah! What kind of greedy pastor is this? I gave him 10,000 Dollars and he is saying, next time will be more.” But the following year he came back, to the same gathering and after we finished he came to see me. He said, “last year when you prayed that prayer, I was upset but now, seeing that between then and now, I have moved from only 10 petrol stations to only a 110 petrol stations. Church Gist. I have come back to make sure that this time, it will be better than before.” You say, “how much did he give you this time?” That’s none of your business!
- I have good news for somebody here today, whatever offering you give today will be the least you ever gave!
How can my latter be better than my former?
Isaiah 1:19. In the story in the wedding of Canaan, what turned their sorrow to joy, what turned the failure at the beginning to the tremendous success at the end is only one thing: obedience. Church Gist. The mother of Jesus told those who were waiting there, “whatever he asks you to do, do it.”
For the rest of your life, make obedience your watchword. That whatever God says, “do” you will do it and you will see how he can make your latter end far far greater than the beginning. Genesis 26:1-16 – you see the story of Isaac. Church Gist. He was in the land where there was famine, in a land where things were very hard even as we are going through some hard times in our nation now and he wanted to ‘japa,’ he wanted to run away but the Almighty God said, “no no don’t run, stay here. Just obey me, do what I ask you to do.” The Bible said the boy stayed and the boy began to sow. The first year he sowed he got a 100 fold returns; by the second year the Bible didn’t tell us how many fold returns he got. But the Bible tells us the boy just kept on increasing steadily until he became very great. Church Gist. Everybody around was shouting famine, he was shouting greatness. He became so great that the King of the land came to him and said, “Sir, you have to leave us because you have become greater than us.
- I have good news for somebody here today, the God I serve is going to prosper you so much that the whole nation will hear about you!
You see the Bible says in Proverbs 4:18, the path of the righteous will be as a shining light, shining brighter and brighter until the perfect day. Church Gist. 2 Corinthians 3:18. May I prophesy to this province: very soon this building will become children Church!
What’s the conclusion? Colossians 1:27. If Christ is dwelling in you, if he is absolutely in control of your life, if you’re 100 per cent obedient unto him, there’s only one thing waiting for you in your future and that is glory. The Almighty God can move you from one level of glory to another. If you learn the secret of always saying, “yes Lord,” whatever he says, that’s what you’ll do. As for those of us who do not really have Christ in us, it’s difficult to know what your future will bring but today being a very special day, I will want to give you an opportunity to come, surrender your life to Jesus, let him come and dwell in you and from that moment onward, your life will be from glory to glory.
