The English man has a word for something that is beautiful and not too big in size. He calls it, “cute.” This building is cute. Congratulations! Cute building, cute choir. Church Gist. Yea, like you’ve been told, it’s a miracle that I could be here today. I am supposed to still be resting but then, the Spirit of God won’t allow me to.
Psalm 122:1. Now why will David say, “I was glad?” Why should anyone be glad when they say, let’s go into the house of the Lord? It’s because you know that when you come into the house of the Lord you will have an encounter with the Lord. Church Gist. It’s the house of the Lord so you come into the house, you will meet the owner of the house.
When you come into the house of the Lord, even if you come sick, you know you will go home healed because the owner of the house is the great physician. Exodus 15:26. Church Gist. When somebody is sick, you will want to go to the Hospital and if I remember very well in the olden days, when you go to the Hospital, usually the Doctor will say, “come and meet me at home.” … because at home, he will give you the best. That’s why you find that many of the miracles that the Lord did happened in the house of the Lord.
Just one example will do because the sermon will be a little bit brief. Mark 2:1-12 – they broke through the roof to get in, you didn’t have to break through the roof today. You came through the door. Church Gist. They carried him in and he didn’t take the sickness back. So I prophesy: that everyone of you here today, whatever sickness you brought in, you won’t go out with it.
Several years ago at Ebute-Metta, a woman was told in the Hospital, “Mama go home. Go and die with your children. There’s no hope for you, there’s nothing anybody can do for you. Just go home and spend your last days – few days with your children.” As the children were carrying her home she said, “hey wait a minute, take me to the Church first.” They said to her, “Mama, there’s no service today; it’s not Digging Deep or Faith Clinic day so the Pastor is not likely to be there.” Church Gist. She said to them, “who told you I want to go and see the Pastor? Take me to the House of God.” They brought her to the Headquarters, she was coming out she said, “just help me to one of the pillars.” She got in, touched the pillar and was completely healed. You have come to the house of the Lord today, you will go home rejoicing!
When you’re in bondage, it doesn’t matter what manner of bondage and you come to the house of the Lord it is certain that the bondage will be destroyed. The reason is because the owner of the house is the one who is called the Lord of Hosts and he has never lost a war. Psalm 24:7-10. You just come into his house and you can be free from bondage. Church Gist. You can go through the Scriptures, there are several examples that Jesus will come into the Temple, he will find a man with unclean spirit and before the man can even say a word he will just say, “be free.” … Because the one who owns the house is also called The Truth and the Bible says, you shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free. John 8:36.
– May I decree to somebody here today, it doesn’t matter the kind of bondage you have been struggling with, because you came today, you shall be free!
Some of you probably remember the story of a woman who was in a town in Ile-Ife – one of the high brows section. (She was a) wealthy woman, was in the top room of her several storey building. She was about to eat pounded yam and aals she opened the dish, a frog came from nowhere, then there was no swamp, nothing near the house and landed on the pounded yam. “Ah ah! What kind of rubbish is this?” Church Gist. She tried to say, hey, get off my pounded yam and the frog jumped into the bowl of stew. So she said alright, if I’m not going to eat this food, you’re not going to eat it either. So she took the bowl of pounded yam, rammed it on the bowl of stew and held it there. After she felt that by now, whatever frog is there will have drowned, she removed the bowl of pounded yam and there was no frog. But from that day on, she started coughing. The kind of coughing that when she will be coughing she will be urinating. She went everywhere because she was wealthy, spent everything she had. Then she heard that we were dedicating a Church in Ife and she attended. From the moment she stepped into the house of the Lord, the cough stopped.
But that wasn’t the end of the story. It wasn’t long after that when a woman came to her and said, “ah, where did you go to? Because the demon I sent against you has no recall. The thing I have discovered is that for sometime now, I have been coughing.” You know? Back to sender! She told her about what God did, she also came, surrendered her life to Jesus and I remember that year’s Convention when the 2 of them came to Convention in Ebute-Metta. Church Gist. The one who was killing and the one who was about to be killed, the 2 of them now become 2 good friends.
– May I decree that if there’s anyone making any effort to put you in bondage, that fellow will come and beg you!
When you come to the house of the Lord, no matter how serious your financial situation, breakthrough will come. Why? Because you’re coming to the house of the One who according to Genesis 17:1 is more than enough. Haggai 2:8. Church Gist. The One who the Bible says, “He owns the Earth and the fullness thereof.” So no matter how difficult things are for you now, because you have come today, before the end of this year you will testify.
I’ve shared with you the story of my uncle – very funny man. He used to be very wealthy – a great electrical engineer. But then somehow, the tide turned and he began to lose money until he had nothing left. Things became so bad that he had to be taking the wife’s wrappers to make Buba and Soro. So he decided one day and said, “Death is better than shame. Church Gist. I will go to the Church, I will dance (and) everybody will notice me. I will participate and then I will come home and kill myself. I will attend my own funeral service.” That kind of man!
Then he came to the Church and that day the Preacher preached on Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and the Preacher said, “when these boys said the God whom we serve will deliver us, he didn’t know how he will do it but God did it anyway.” Church Gist. He (My Uncle) said, “Ah! I don’t know how God can get me out of my present level of poverty but I refuse to die.” You know the year he was sharing his testimony, he had just bought 14 cars for those working for him – in a single day! I don’t know who God is talking to now but because you came today, very soon you will testify.
Mummy had prayed for those of you who are trusting God for the fruit of the womb but you know, if you come to the house of the Lord you come in contact with the one who is called the Fruitful Vine. The one who said, “Be fruitful and multiply.” When you read the story of Hannah, she came to Shiloh – that’s where she met the Lord. She prayed and God noticed her prayer. Church Gist. She didn’t give birth to just any ordinary child, she gave birth to a prophet, the first King Maker of Israel. She gave birth to the first King Remover of Israel
– I decree to anyone of you who might be trusting God for the fruit of the womb, or you have relatives who are trusting God for the fruit of the womb, because of this morning’s service very special children will come through you!
Do you know even if you have an appointment with death and you come to the house of the Lord, that appointment can be postponed. Yea, it is appointed unto man once to die …we all know we will die one day or the other but God has elongated the life of somebody for 15 years before. He can say, “I am the Almighty God, you’re supposed to die this year but I add 15 years more. Anybody who does not like it, let him sue me.” Why? Church Gist. Because when you come in to the house of the Lord, you have come into the house of the One who said in John 11:25, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” Then when death comes face to face with the Resurrection, death must give way. You know very well that in Mark 5:35-43, when Jesus stepped in and wherever Jesus stepped into, the place becomes the house of the Lord. He turned death to sleep and he woke up the one who is sleeping.
– I pray for someone here today: because you may not know it, even if this is the year that you’re appointed to die, that appointment is postponed!
A prophet came to a man, he was a fairly old man and said, “God asked me to tell you, put your house in order because you’re going to die.” It was at the beginning of the Year. The man said, “well, God said I must die – yes; is there anything I can do so I won’t die?” The Prophet said, “no, it’s a settled matter. Church Gist. In fact God wanted to show you love that’s why he has told you this so you can put everything in order.” He said, alright. Could you help me tell God to let me see December 31? After all, December 31 is still this year. The Prophet said, “all God told me is that you’re dying this year, He didn’t say which month.” “Just tell God I’m ready to die but wait till December 31.
December 31 came, the man woke up very early in the morning and began to trek from his house to the Church in Ebute-Metta. He didn’t take any bus because he wanted to avoid an accident. Whenever he saw anybody coming in the opposite direction, he dodged because that fellow might be the one who is going to kill. Church Gist. Finally, he got to the Church in Ebute-Metta. As soon as he entered the Church he said, “ehen, the death that will come and kill me here, let us wait and see.” The man lived for several years later!
– Because you came today, you won’t die young!
– You will fulfill God’s purpose
– Any appointment with death is postponed!
Of course the greatest reason why you should be glad for coming to the house of the Lord is that, when you come to the house of God, you have come to the house of the Saviour. You come into the house of the Saviour, you can be saved. Matthew 1:20. You come to the house of the Lord, there is salvation available to you. No matter how terrible your sin have been, I don’t have time to begin to tell you about myself. I have said it before, if I were Jesus, I won’t even save Adeboye – I was that rotten. Church Gist. I mean when you are a sinner to the core and you know you’re a sinner to the core. But I came to the house of the Lord and when I came, I came because I had a problem that my Mathematics couldn’t solve. I came because somebody told me in the Redeemed Christian Church of God that is at Ebute-Metta … I think…you should have seen the Church at that time – it was ** . I mean the ground was not even plastered. It’s not the place you want to see a University Lecturer. I mean, we go to you know … Even our Churches here are conditioned. So for me to go in there it was because I had a problem. When I got there I thought they would just ask me, “How much do you want to pay?” So you can pray this your prayer and solve my problem. Church Gist. But they were not asking me for money. Believe it or not, even in those days they didn’t even take offerings because they say, “we don’t know who is a sinner; we dont want your money.” So they won’t take my money but they kept on saying, “surrender your life to Jesus.”
I was saying, what’s wrong with these people? Because majority of them, you just need to look at them, you know they were ignorant people – market women, this that. “What did they know about sin anyway? Just one or two harmful habits etc.” “Surrender your life to Jesus; Confess your sin.” Church Gist. But one day God broke through my stupidity. I was a lecturer in the University of Lagos so I thought I was wise. That thought said to me, “what’s wrong with you? They’re not asking you to surrender to a man, they’re asking you to surrender to your maker. You say you’re educated; look at their faces, can’t you see peace? Do you have what they have?”
So when they made the altar call that day, I went forward and I gave my life to Jesus Christ and everything changed. Things are still changing for the better. I was a chief among sinners, today look at me, I am preaching to you and all over the world today, they will be hearing me preaching on Dove – later today. Church Gist. From the miry clay, he brought me out and changed my life completely. He can do the same for you. So it doesn’t matter how rotten you think you have been, come and surrender your life to Jesus. That will be the beginning of miracles for you!
