Alpha and omega we worship you. The beginning, the ending, the one who was, the one who is, the one who is to come. Faithful God, glory be to your holy name. Church Gist.Thank you for January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September. Thank you for our last convention; thank you for our year of Jubilee. Thank you for proving to us that you’re a covenant keeping God.
We commit all your children who are medical workers into your hands. From now on, anyone they touch, let that fellow receive a miracle. Church Gist. As for your children who are pregnant, carry them through. As for those trusting you for the fruit of the womb, even by tomorrow morning let there be a change for the better for them.
As we enter into our own New year in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, give your children new joy, success, anointing, breakthrough, mighty testimonies. Church Gist. And today in your own miraculous way touch each and everyone of us on Jesus’ mighty name we have prayed.
1 Peter 2:24. I am sure you know that the “who” we are referring to here is Jesus Christ. Church Gist. There is a law; a spiritual law called the law of substitution. It is a law of God but you know, satan can copy. He can’t create but he can copy.
And if you ask the elders they will tell you that in the olden days, when someone is seriously sick and is about to die, (I’m talking of at least some 60 years ago, when the real doctors were the local herbalists before medicine became available as it is today) and you go to the herbalist, (the original ones; not the fake ones of today) he will tell the relatives to go and bring the dress of the fellow who is sick. Church Gist. He will probably ask for a goat; usually he asks for a goat and some other things.
And then they will do whatever it is they will do and then they will ask the relative to bring the trunk of a banana tree. And they put the dress of that fellow on the banana tree and tie some things here and there. Church Gist. They will tell the relatives to take that thing – the effigy, to a crossroad preferably, the centre of the town at night.
They will tell them, “Drop this thing there and don’t look back.” Now, it will be at night; everybody is supposed to be at home sleeping. Church Gist. But almost invariably, there will be somebody who decides to go and visit another fellow’s wife at night. And then he will be returning and he will see the effigy. Miraculously, the one who saw the effigy will die; and the one whose relative brought the effigy will have a good story to tell because their relative will recover miraculously. Church Gist. Some of them are here; they will tell you, “you mean you know about that?” I’m 80 years old; I know one or two things.
They call it substitution. They have substituted somebody for the one who was supposed to die of sickness. Church Gist. May I start this morning by declaring that:
- if you have an appointment with death, there will be a substitution this morning.
What does the law of substitution say? Proverbs 11:8. That is, substitution is made for the righteous by offering the wicked in his stead. Church Gist. You say, “Sir, can that be true?” I will give you examples in the Bible. Exodus 14:21-28. The children of Israel were delivered from destruction and the Egyptian army was substituted. So when God said to the children of Israel, “the enemies you have seen tonight, you will never see them again forever.” Church Gist. The same is true for you in Jesus’ name.
Daniel 3:19-30. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were meant to roast. The fire was even heated 7 times, hotter than ever before. Church Gist. They were supposed to just vanish as soon as they get into the flames. But they were delivered out of the fire. Why? Substitutions were made for them. Church Gist. The mighty men who carried them, who were going to throw them into the furnace, the fire got to those people. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they walked out of the fire to promotion.
On the basis of the Word of God I can say to you, all those who are planning to throw you into the fire, they will be your substitute!
You say, “Ah! Ah! We didn’t know this is in the Bible.” It’s there! May be you want to read Daniel 6 also; from the beginning to the end. Church Gist. What’s the problem? Some people felt Daniel was making too rapid a progress. “Let’s catch him; we know he will pray. He can’t stop praying to his God. Let’s make a decree, let’s plan for the king to sign a decree that anybody who prays to anybody other than the King, they will throw him to the den of lions.” So they threw Daniel into the den of lions. Church Gist. The lions saw him and they were very hungry lions. They saw Daniel coming, “ah! Thank you God; food.” God said, “ahah (no) you can’t touch this one.” “Ah! This is the kind of food you created us to eat.” He said, “Lions don’t eat Lions. Church Gist. The son of the Lion of Judah is a lion.”
Whether you believe it or not, the day you gave your life to Jesus Christ, a mark is placed on you; and the enemy will see you and say, “ah! This is one of the children of the lion of Judah.” Church Gist. Ask the elders; they will tell you there are certain people witches don’t touch.” Witches don’t come near any albino at all. Why? They believe that the albino belongs to the deity.
So God told the lions anyway, “don’t touch this one.” “But we are hungry” (The lions say) God said, “be patient; there will be substitution.” You remember the following day, they brought Daniel out of the den of lions. Church Gist. And God spoke to the king, “there were some people who said you should throw Daniel into the den.” The King said yes, I remember. “Send for them. When they are coming ask them not to come alone. They should come with their wives, children.”
So the following day, the lion saw some people coming again. “God, are these lions too?” Church Gist. God said, “No no, they are the substitute I promised you.”
It may sound a bit tough in your ears but the Word of God is forever settled.
- Any one planning to throw you into the den of lions, himself, his family, will be your substitute.
That is the law. And you know what? That’s one of the reasons why you must struggle very hard to make sure every member of your family is in Christ because if they are not, and the enemy tries to grab you, and God is looking for a substitute… “God have mercy.”
A sister came; “Daddy I had a night mare.” “What is the night mare?” “My husband travelled abroad and they brought him in in a coffin. Church Gist. What am I going to do?” I said ah! What’s the problem? Is your husband a child of God? She said yes. “Relax my dear; no evil is going to touch him.” Just as I am praying for your today:
- Any of your relative who happens to be a child of God, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ no evil will come near them.
So she rejoiced and left. 2 weeks later, I came to Church in the morning and then I saw (the week before Sunday) in the newspaper that somebody died abroad and they brought him back in a coffin. Church Gist. And when I saw the name, it was the same surname as that sister. “Oh my God what happened? And we prayed.” On Sunday I saw sister coming to Church; beautifully dressed, smile… So I called her; what happened? Church Gist. I saw… “Oh Sir! It’s not my husband that died. It was somebody bearing the same surname.
- I decree today, every danger coming your way shall be diverted.
So you know now the law of substitution. And the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21, that God decided that He will pick His son Jesus Christ and make Him sin; even though He does not know sin. Church Gist. So that you and I can become righteousness of God in Him. Meaning what? God wants you to have somebody who will be your substitute. And it is the righteous who will be delivered from death. Church Gist. It is the unrighteous who will go as a substitute; so he decided to make Jesus Christ sin; make Him wicked as it were so that He can be your substitute. Church Gist. When you study the Word of God deeply enough, you will be amazed that in the various ways where you need substitution Jesus was there.
For you to be free from sin He shed His blood (1 John 1:7). How come He carried your sin on His body? Church Gist. 1 Peter 2, He picked your sin, put it on Himself and went to the cross to go and die so that His blood can avail for you when there is a need for substitution He says this fellow need not go to hell; I’ve already carried his sin.
In 2 Corinthians 8:9, silver is his; gold is his; the Earth belongs to Him, the fullness belongs to Him; all the gold, the cattle upon a thousand hills, they belong to Him. Church Gist. Even though He were rich, for your sake He became poor so that you through His poverty might become rich. Substitution!
That’s why anybody who tells you you are going to die poor is lying. Why? Jesus became poor that you might become rich. When they nailed Him to the cross, they removed all his dress. Church Gist. The drawing you see with something wrapped round His private part is human imagination; they took everything. Of course they have to remove his shoes in order to nail the feet. Church Gist. That is why there is no way you can ever die naked. I can go on and on.
Do you know the reason why Jesus never married? Church Gist. He had to suffer loneliness so that you won’t be lonely. Hebrews 13:5.
Do you know the reason He never had a biological child? Church Gist. It is so that you cannot be barren. He has paid for it; He is your substitute.
The text that they asked us to talk about today, about His Stripes bringing you healing is just the law of substitution. Church Gist. I’ve told you before, when you know you’re going to kill somebody, why beat him? The little I know about law, (lawyers forgive me; I’m not dabbling in your field), from my visit to Kirikiri prison and other prisons and I go there regularly, is that if they’re going to kill somebody tomorrow at least in civilized countries, they will ask you the night before, “What do you want to eat? Name your favourite food.” Church Gist. At least they give you that final honour. So you can say I want pounded yam; and they must provide you.
To someone who is going to be killed, why do you need to flog him? It doesn’t make sense; but they had to beat Jesus Christ. Church Gist. He had to know the pain in the flesh. So that the pain in your flesh can be dealt with. That’s why I have good news for somebody here today: “By His Stripes, you shall be healed.” Church Gist. And because He has paid for sickness, pain, ache, that’s why He said in Mark 16:16-18.
“Oh if that is the case Sir, then, are you actually saying that if I am a true child of God and I lay hands on the sick they will recover?” I said Yes Sir. Church Gist. “Eh, but if I pray for somebody and the fellow doesn’t recover?” Keep laying hands. If one dies today, lay hands on the second; go on lay hands. Just keep going. It will amaze you that as you continue in faith you will begin to see miracles happen. Church Gist. This is because someone had already paid the price.
So I rejoice with those of you who are doctors because things will be different now. Even before you give them injections, lay hands on them and pray. Church Gist. And you’ll be amazed that the substitute, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself will already step in.
You have our testimonies, thank God for doctors, thank you for all the long years you spent in medical school. Church Gist. Thank God for your efficiency; but you know very well it gets to a stage when “there’s nothing more I can do.” At that time, hand over the matter to the one who said, “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” Church Gist. I like the motto of one of our Teaching Hospitals it says, “we care but God heals.” How true!
Thank God for Doctors, Medicine, but thank God for the name that is above every other name. Thank God for the name at which every knee must bow. Church Gist. I just want to remind you may be one or two stories, one you have heard before, another one you heard last Friday.
The one you have heard before: I was travelling to a nation, I got to the Airport and I couldn’t see one of my boys. Church Gist. And I know that he will always be there at the Airport to receive me. “Ah! Where is my son?” “Oh sorry Daddy, he’s sick. He’s in hospital.” “Okay, is the hospital on the way to the hotel where I will be staying?” “Yeah!” So we will please branch. Church Gist. There’s something in the body of a man I think they call a PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) or something that tells you how heavy you are.
I think they said PSA is supposed to be at least less than 10 (I’m not a medical doctor). But by the time your PSA is beginning to reach something like 200, you are already in serious trouble because you have cancer. Church Gist. By the time your PSA is going to about a thousand, oh God! If they want to be sincere with you they ask you to prepare your way.
When my son got to the hospital and they tested him, his PSA was over 4,000. And in that hospital they have a room, special room, where they put all those that they know they are hopeless cases. Church Gist. That anybody who goes into that room does not come out alive. That’s where my son was. When I say “room” not a small one; very big room.
So I went there. In fact they told him when they brought him, “we don’t believe you are the one walking.” He said I am. I got there and I prayed for him on a Saturday; I left. Church Gist. There were other people there – hopeless cases! But abroad is not like Nigeria. You don’t pray for anybody who didn’t ask you to come and pray because they can sue you for imposing your religion on them.
Jesus will soon come back; you can be sure of that because if you see what’s happening in the world, oh God!
