– Bishop David Oyedepo on ENGAGING THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 5 at Midweek Communion Service || LFC Canaanland || 18th October 2023 ||
Be reminded again that our prophetic focus for the month is “I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU HELPLESS”. So your helper is saying ‘I remain with you if you will let me’. So don’t grieve me, don’t quench me, I am here for your help. He promised to be with us even to the end of the age. We are warned not to quench Him. Let what he says matter to you from time to time. This helper is here for our good. May we never miss the good that He has come to offer us. 1st John 5:7. That means the Holy Ghost is present in the Word. So when our heart is open, hearing the word of God, the Spirit of God in the Word can enter us. Church Gist. Ezekiel 2:2. These three are one, just like your spirit, your soul and your body are one. So as the Word goes forth tonight, expect to be imparted with the needed help in your life and my life. John 6:63. Luke 5:17. Matthew 4:23. As the Word goes forth tonight, open your heart.
Our teaching series for the midweek services is captioned ‘Engaging the help of the Holy Spirit. Remember, the word Comforter literally means to help. John 14:16-18. We are also told in the course of this teaching that the Holy Spirit comes along with diverse gifts and manifestations to help us fulfill our glorious destinies. Church Gist. Every child of God is justified to be glorified. So we all have a glorious destiny. Romans 8:29-30. 2nd Peter 1:3. So we have a golden destiny in Christ…and that golden destiny is impossible to realize without the help of the Holy Spirit. Zechariah 4:1-2,6. Our golden destiny cannot be realized without the help of the Holy Spirit. So we are helpless without the Holy Spirit. We are utterly limited without the help of the Holy Spirit.
It is also important to recognize that the Holy Spirit is likened to ‘wine’ and we all know that how much of Him we have in any area of His operations, the more intoxicated we become in such areas. Acts 2:12-17. So the Holy Ghost comes in form of oil and intoxicates people in any of His diverse operations where we receive that wine. Ephesians 5:18. A half cup of wine may not turn you around but when you are filled with wine, you will be turned around. The holy spirit comes in measures. Ezekiel 47:3-5. A clear illustration of the Holy Spirit coming upon God’s people…but he comes in varying degrees. There is ankle-deep, there is the knee-deep, there is the waist-deep, there is the realm of depth that cannot be passed over, where you have to swim. God gave Jesus the Holy Spirit without measure, the realm that cannot be crossed over. For example, one can get Love intoxicated by the Spirit of Love…you can’t just pull yourself out of it. Romans 8:35. Church Gist. One can get intoxicated with the Stewardship anointing…serving God is just a natural delight, you are not waiting for who to say well done, you are just enjoying yourself. When you are insulted, it looks like they are praising you. You can’t feel it, you become off the human realm.
One can become giving intoxicated, the Spirit of faith can get you Faith intoxicated, you’re on the move at all times with what the Word says concerning the situation. Church Gist. One can become Obedience intoxicated, with the spirit of obedience and so many more. So the Holy Spirit’s mission is to intoxicate us, in the area of our helplessness so we can take command of it.
Today we are talking on the ‘Spirit of Servanthood’. We can also call it the Spirit of Steadfastness. Our text is Isaiah 42:1-4. The mission of the Spirit of Servanthood is to keep you and I, off the realm of fainting in stewardship. Church Gist. It keeps you going supernaturally beyond your capacity. Acts 26:22. It takes the help of the Spirit of God to experience continuity in stewardship without giving up at any time.
Why Do we Need the Spirit of Servanthood?
1. In this end time, there shall be diverse temptations to give up on God and on the interest of His Kingdom. Matthew 24:12. There are temptations on the way to give up, “What are you still doing there, how long would you be on”…and that is when you are closest to your breakthrough. The attacks become severe when you are closest to your next breakthrough. There was no record of anybody mocking Elisha until the time he was about to take the mantle from Elijah. Church Gist. Everybody began to mock him. Meanwhile, authorities in the nation knew he was going to take the mantle from Elijah. The devil also knew and went through the sons of the Prophet to start mocking Elisha to disconnect him from that agenda. The attack is always grievous when you are closest to where you are going. Somebody’s story is changing.
2. To keep us going in season and out of season in our Stewardship. 2nd Timothy 4:2. When Hagin began preaching the Word of Faith, it was like an aberration. He told one of the stories, he was in a meeting and everybody went out one by one, it was remaining him and the host Pastor who invited him. Hagin was still preaching, he said the Pastor moved and said ‘Sir can we close this service.’ In season and out of season. Church Gist. He was ministering one day and somebody went straight up there and smoked and blew it on his face. What keeps you going is when that Spirit is actively at work in you. When the Lord spoke to me that he was going to heaven, we rushed down to the U.S. He was not home, he was in Canada on his Faith Crusade…that was 2 weeks from the time he went to heaven. The spirit of Servanthood keeps you going in season and out of season.
– We shall all end well.
3. To occupy till Jesus comes so we can secure our full rewards. Matthew 24:45-47. It takes that Spirit to occupy in your stewardship till He comes. Church Gist. Luke 19:13. Church Gist. No downtime, what’s happening around you notwithstanding, it keeps you going.
Past tense engagement holds no value to God.
‘I used to’ never counts with God. Ezekiel 18:24-27. Past tense stewardship holds no water with God. We need the Spirit of Servanthood to keep going in season and out of season. Interestingly we saw how Abraham was called at age 75, he went to heaven at age 175 and there was no break. Genesis 22:4-10. Genesis 24:1. The blessings stop when service stops. Exodus 23:25. When you stop serving, stop expecting the blessing. Abraham succeeded for 100 years.
– We shall succeed.
Genesis 12:4. Genesis 25:7-8. He left in Obedience to God’s command at age 75, he lived to be 175…and we saw him at age 114 with his son on the altar. We saw how he came under a sworn blessing, he was still active and God kept blessing him. Genesis 24:1. As I mentioned, blessing stops where stewardship stops. If you’re out of service in any organization, your salary would stop, feeding benefits would stop, allowances would stop, and everything stops where your service stops. People are crying to God for nothing. Church Gist. Can you pray now to get on Covenant University’s payroll? “I’m a bonafide member of this Church, in the name of Jesus, I get on that payroll now, right now I command everybody to line up from Chancellor to everyone, line up in the name of Jesus, If I ask anything, it shall be done…” That won’t be done because you are not in service there, you can’t by mistake get on that payroll.
Please understand me, when you are out of service in the Kingdom, forget it. What you have would be drops of Mercy but for showers of blessings, No! That’s why we need the spirit of Stewardship, not being a staff of a Church or being a founder of a ministry but serving God as a servant. King Asa led a massive revival but missed his steps after 20 years, he became an oppressor and died of a plague. This man was strong in his followership of God that he removed his mother from being queen to please God, he cleared all abominations from the land of Judea…and God gave them rest all around and suddenly he turned his back and God also turned His back on him.
– May God not turn his back on any one of us.
2nd Chronicles 15:7-10,15. 2nd Chronicles 16:1-9. 1st Kings 8:20. 1st Kings 11:14,23,25.
– May we not suffer a negative switch in our lives.
Acts 13:21. 2nd Chronicles 26:3-6,14-16. Everybody needs this Spirit to keep going to the end of time. Everybody needs the Spirit of Servanthood not to suffer a crash in the journey.
– Your days of marvelous help are here.
You can’t tell how many people in the body of Christ today, members, pastors and founders who are Victims of pride of the heart. 2nd Chronicles 26:16-19. After enjoying marvelous help from God for 52 years he(Uzziah) died of Leprosy.
– Nobody would suffer a crash.
We need the Spirit of stewardship to keep going. 2nd Chronicles 26:17-21. After 52 years of walking with Jesus.
– We shall all make it to the end.
That’s why we need that spirit, that will help you not to faint or be discouraged about stewardship. Philemon 1:9. Acts 26:22. 2nd Timothy 4:6-8. Apostle Paul fought it through to the end. He was a man of a good old age. A host of legends of faith of our time like Billy Graham, Kenneth Hagin, Oral Roberts, T.L. Osborn, Samuel Sadela and a host of others made it to the end, we shall make it too. Pa Sadela was ‘on’ till age 114. At age 108, he was dedicating a new sanctuary for their mission. Church Gist. He drove, not that he flew at age 108.
– We shall make it to the end.
Some Few Testimonies Of My Experience With The Spirit Of Servanthood.
Things that you would naturally not want to do, except there’s a spirit driving you. He drives people when he gets hold on you on the course. Mark 1:12.
1. After escaping the attack on death, which is sequel to my teaching on ‘Victory over Death’ it was a Seminar, death came on an attack…and why the whole place was turning, right inside my spirit, I heard a voice “What are you doing here now”. I don’t know too…and a force took me off that bed. I still traveled that day on my mission trip, that’s not what to do, naturally, you should settle down first. I still traveled that day (not a journey from here to there about 600 km) to catch up with my assignment. Church Gist. That was in 1983.
2. On 1st January 1986. I was coughing blood, I had gone through a tremendous fasting season in 1985 and some extreme schedule. My wife said, “you need to go home”. I said, “Let me do this one, this is the last one I would do”. As I opened my mouth in the washroom, it was only blood that came out…they helped me to stay up and we finished I was like a rope. Church Gist. I wouldn’t naturally do that, it was the Spirit at work that kept me on track with the assignment. In spite of the gruesome attack on my person and the ministry for 7 years, I was not moved or made mention of it on any platform. I wasn’t pretending, I knew where I was going. When that Spirit comes on you, you’ll never fail or be discouraged…and so the attack began in 1992, an unprovoked attack, I was so unmoved that there was no one day that I watched it. Everything I heard, I heard from people, my book was torn, I didn’t know. I was not moved at all. To let you know I wasn’t moved, the first time I met the accuser, I could not feel it, He rose up to greet me, I was on a plane and I embraced him.
– May the spirit of Servanthood lay hold on you today.
3. Face where you are going. I was under severe attack, I was like an agent of the devil to everybody. The thing I stood for then (the ministry of anointing oil) even the accuser died, they are all in…but the more the attack, the stronger I was waxing in doing what God wants me to do. That attack continued and the Church started galloping. Church Gist. When there is no bitterness, no reaction, you will grow. Hebrews 12:15.
Jesus said to someone “Follow me’ he said ‘ I won’t follow you’. Did He slap him? That’s the problem. I couldn’t feel it, it was not me, it was not in my nature. With all the fighting Spirit that I have I couldn’t feel it. You are attacking my service, you’re asking me to retire, to resign. To lose my name on the(God’s) payroll, my allowances, then I’m done.
4. After a severe respiratory attack in Yola. We were on our mission to Yola, Maiduguri, Bauchi…and then Yola down the morning, everything went Blizzard, inside me I said, I’m still going for that meeting in the morning. Church Gist. I was under that grievous attack till 5:15a.m then the devil left and my breath came down, I went to shower and by 6:30a.m, the meeting. We would have just turned back and be on our way back to Lagos. No, that Spirit keeps driving you, you will never fail nor be discouraged when that Spirit comes on you.
– It is your turn at last.
Do you know why the attack came so strong in 1992? The devil had spied into that agenda, that something was going to break forth in 1994…and then 1994 came, from 3000 plus to 50000 congregations. Luke 22:28. We need to overcome the forces of discouragement to get to where we are going. Church Gist. Can I hear your Amen? So we went from there to Maiduguri, from Maiduguri to Bauchi, I made triumphant entry…and then we were back in Lagos.
5. We had another experience in 1998 after escaping a potential air crash on our way to Kano, where we lost one engine on the plane. I went back straight to the office from the airport to set the week up as it was a Sunday. Amen, The reason we didn’t die is so we can continue doing what we were doing, not that I go home and say “I thank God, I escaped”. I say down to put the week in order so we can continue. That’s not natural, that’s the Spirit (of Servanthood) at work.
– Receive the spirit of Servanthood today.
It is the highway to your high places. Philippians 2:6-9. We need to take upon ourselves the form of a servant. Don’t be a boss, it’s not safe. Mark 10:44. It’s not about a show about belonging somewhere, it’s about serving God in truth and in deed. You heard it several times when my wife was dying, I heard the commandment to keep going…and I kept going, I went to 27 nations that year. It was my most rigorous trip, preaching the liberation message when I had the liberation challenge in my house. Jesus took over and here we are today with Testimony of triumph. That spirit keeps you going in serving God. Church Gist. Can I hear your Amen?
6. One of the maddest experiences that I had, was in the evening on the same day, my mother died in the morning, it was December and it was my time of securing God’s agenda for the coming year. I was before the Lord asking Him ‘What do you have in stock for this mission in the year 2012 and God was laying it out for me, same day. I don’t have two mothers, I have only one. It takes the Spirit of Servanthood to keep going against all odds.
– It’s your turn for a change of story
– With the fresh release of the spirit of Servanthood tonight, every one of us shall be engraced for continuity in stewardship against all odds till the end of our journey. Receive that now in the name of Jesus.
Luke 22:27. Christianity would be frustrating without actively engaging in productive service. Church Gist. All these prayers of begging God won’t be necessary, just commit yourself to serving Him. Amen! Make your life a seed unto God and watch what he turns out of it. Psalms 22:30. Proverbs 23:26. Mark 4:30-32. When your life becomes a seed in stewardship, what comes out of it is a great tree with great branches, offering a covering for many beyond your wildest imagination…and it takes grace. John 10:17.
– The power to lay down your life to make the most of it at the end, receive it right now.
– No one here would fall by the way side.
