We are still dealing with Joshua 6:2 because there is still something there that we are yet to dig deep into. There is one big word in that text that we jumped over – See. He didn’t say, “hear O Joshua” he said, “See.” So we want to look at the word, “See” and discuss the issue of vision. The Bible teaches that whatever you see you can have. Church Gist. Genesis 13:14-15. God encouraged Abraham in Genesis 13:17-18, “See more so you can have more.” The more you see, the more you can have. 1 Chronicles 4:10. See more so you can have more.
The first time I attended Kenneth Hagin’s Camp meeting in 1979 and I saw a crowd of about 17,000 people, I came back trusting the Almighty God for a Church that will have at least that kind of crowd during convention. But then I heard of Yonggi Cho – that there is a man who had a Church much much bigger than that. I didn’t believe so I had to go and see because what you see is what you desire. I had no money but God provided. Church Gist. I got there and I saw a building that could take approximately 50,000 people and I heard a pastor begging those who came to Church that Sunday, “please don’t come next Sunday because of those people who could not find a place inside this Sunday” – Even though they were holding 7 services every Sunday. You can be sure when I returned my desire changed. I was no longer going to be satisfied with a Church of 17,000 people because I have seen something much bigger.
Vision is a very crucial thing. It determines your future. God can enlarge your coast. If you can see it, you can have it. Psalm 37:4. If you haven’t seen it, you can’t desire it. If you don’t desire it what is he going to grant you? Pray that the Almighty God will enlarge your coast, that he will give you grace to see great things. Some of the ministers of God that I know including quite a few under my overseership are already satisfied if they have a congregation of 1,000 people. Church Gist. They won’t even let the world rest! When it is in the power of the Almighty God to make you greater than I, why should you limit the Holy One of Israel? Who told you that what God is doing the first Friday of the month at Redemption Camp he cannot do in at least a 100 places in Nigeria the second Friday of the month? Who told you? Who told you that where you are is where God wants you to end. If only you can see. If you can see it, you can have it!
There are many people at least in my villages who have never seen an air conditioned room. So when you talk to them about a room where there is harmattan all year round, they will look at you and say, “ah, because I didn’t go to school do you think I am a mad fellow? How can there be harmattan in a room all year round?” Church Gist. Because they have never seen it. They’ve never seen a room that is rugged so they never desire it. Change your vision! Enlarge your coast and God will grant you the desire.
The power of vision is incredible. You don’t believe me? Read Genesis 30:27-43. What you see is what you become. Apply the principle of vision. Genesis 5:1-6. Today all over the world, people are claiming to be of the seed of Abraham – Moslems, Israelis, Christians; but he had to see it first. He saw the stars. Numbers 13:17-20. What you see, you can have. So I want you from now to begin to see yourself as great, prosperous, successful, because you have to beware how you see yourself. Church Gist. Numbers 13:25-33 – all those who saw themselves as grasshoppers died as grasshoppers. Are you a child of God? You’re not a grasshopper. You are not somebody that anybody can walk over. Why? 1 John 4:4 – greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. It’s not how you look outside that matters, who you are is determined by who is dwelling in you. 1 Samuel 16:6-7.
Be careful what you focus on because what you see, desire, you will have. So if you focus on the wrong thing, you will get the wrong thing. 2 Kings 5:20-27. Gehazi made arrangements, went and collected wealth and got something extra. You see because there is something about God: He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all you ask or think. He will give you extra. Church Gist. Take Samson for example – he was always seeing wrong things. Judges 14:1-18; Judges 16:1-3. He kept on seeing until he saw Delilah and you know the rest of the story. Mighty men can be destroyed by lust. What you see can destroy you if you see the wrong thing. That’s why when the enemy captured Samson you know the first thing they did, they removed his eyes – you’ve seen enough, now pay the price (his enemies thought).
Matthew 14:23-32. Don’t look at the storms, look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Colossians 3:1-4. Are you heading for Heaven, focus where you are going not on the things on the Earth. One of the prayers you are going to pray today is that God will open your eyes because there are more things round you than you can see. 2 Kings 6:8-17. Church Gist. Every child of God, you are living like a city in a siege. There is a wall of fire round about you, you may not see them but they are there. Focus on things above. Ask God to open your eyes to see spiritual things and you will be amazed at how many things around you that you can’t see with ordinary eyes. Proverbs 20:12.
It is possible for you to see angels, possible to see the glory of God all around you, possible for God to show you several opportunities that you don’t even know are there. Church Gist. There are many doors around you that you can’t even see they are there. 2 Chronicles 12:1-5. God can open your eyes and show you several things.
But let me add by closing with this one: there are things that you cannot find out by yourself and God can reveal them to you. God can give you revelations. Matthew 16:13-19. There are revelations that only God can give. You can read the Bible and God will show you hidden truths. For the past 3 Sundays now we have been looking at Joshua 6:2. Church Gist. I’m sure you’ve read that passage several times before, you never thought that there are nuggets there that could last for 3 Sundays and there are more even though we might be moving in from next Sunday. You may need to cry to God today and say, just open my eyes O Lord, let me see visions. Psalm 119:18.
Many of us are going through life as if we are blindfolded but I pray that from now on, God will open your eyes. You will see visions physical, material, spiritual. Church Gist. Those of you who have not yet given your life to Jesus Christ, definitely you are living in darkness and you don’t even know the pleasure, joy, that can be found in Christ. But if you come to him, he will open your eyes and you begin to see some glorious things that he has reserved for your future.
