We serve a very incredible God doing very incredible things in our midst. We had the service on Sunday which was a Sunday morning Healing and Deliverance crusade. Church Gist. We have several testimonies coming from different quarters of the experiences of people on that day.
– Give the Lord the praise!
Many people who don’t know what it means to be at full blast crusade or a Healing and Deliverance Service because of work and other commitments, they got to experience that atmosphere. Church Gist. A woman came from Enugu for that service for the first time, life under pressure, hypertension. She works in a financial institution, took a loan, 8-figure loan and she couldn’t pay. She said everytime she remembered the loan, even from her sleep, she will wake up. Life under intense pressure, headache, all manner. Sunday service, that Healing and Deliverance crusade was her first day in this Church. She came to town and somebody said, “follow me to Church”. At the end of the service, I said people should write just one they wanted God to do for them, she wrote one thing. Church Gist. She said that Sunday was the first time she was writing the full amount, “Lord, please help me for this amount to be cleared”. She said, because, previously, if she remembers the amount, her heart starts galloping. That Sunday, not Monday, not Tuesday, that same Sunday, somebody called her and said, “you know what? That loan you’re talking about, I have cleared it”. That same day, one person wiped out an 8-figure loan. She was in tears here this morning. Church Gist. We serve a prayer-answering God. So, I have told our Pastor here to make the expectation form ready specially for the program. We have a second edition this Sunday because it looks like God has been waiting for us to do some very drastic things. Church Gist. What is the use of a big stadium or multi stadiums like this if not for crusades?
– look at your neighbour, say, “God is a prayer-answering God, He will answer your own prayer today! He will change your story today! He will do something new in your life today!”
– if you believe that, shout the loudest Amen!
Very quickly, we are dealing with a very interesting subject today and that is “HINDRANCES TO PRODUCTIVE PRAYING”. James 5:16-18. Church Gist. Our objective this evening is to understand the hindrances or the factors that hinder resultful or result-oriented prayer. What factors must we factor if our prayers will be answered?
By way of introduction, it is made clear in Scripture that God both hears and answers prayers. It’s clear from the following Scripture among others: Psalm 65:2. Church Gist. So, we serve God who hears prayers and He doesn’t just hear prayers, He answers them. Isaiah 65:24. That is, God is not just waiting to answer your prayers, there are dimensions where He answers before you ask. Jeremiah 29:11-13. God is not a talkative, He doesn’t say what He doesn’t mean. Church Gist. He says what He means, He means what He says. In Genesis, the Bible said, “God said and it was so”. The meaning is, if it will not be so, it will not be said by God. Jeremiah 33:3. Matthew 7:7-11.
– somebody say a loud Amen!
– I declare today, the era of praying without answer is over forever!
1 John 5:14-15. He’s not only hearing us, He’s giving us the petitions that we desired of him. John 16:24. Church Gist. Having seen these, Beloved, I want you to go back to those specific action steps to follow in the course of prayer that we dealt with 2 Sundays ago and then “Secrets of Effective Prayer”, apply them and I believe that you will see results.
Now, if God has given us such clear promises, He’s not a talkative God or a God who plays with words, why is it that prayers are not answered for most people? Church Gist. I’m going to look at just 5 things tonight that are hindrances to answered prayer. Some of them, we have dealt with them directly or indirectly and there are many more but we handled them at one point or the other.
1. Guilt of sin. James 5:16. Isaiah 59:1-2. Psalm 24:3-5. Psalm 66:18. It is important to note that guilt is an enemy of productive prayer. Church Gist. Guilt is the enemy of answered prayer. I will give you two facts about guilt.
1a. Guilt attacks Faith. The righteous are the only ones that can be as bold as the Lion, the wicked flee when no one pursues. Church Gist. If guilt attacks Faith and your prayer is at the mercy of your Faith, then guilt attacks your answers.
1b. Guilt disconnects the guilty from God’s presence. Church Gist. It disconnects people from the presence of God, that is for as long as you are settled in guilt and in the life that causes you to be guilty, you are disconnected according to Isaiah 59:1-2 and Psalms 66:18. So to have prayers that are productive, guilt must be dealt with.
2. Ignorance
Ignorance in three realms. Ignorance of God, that is who God is first, ignorance, second of God’s Word. The Word of God, the Bible which is our constitution that we make reference to in the courts of the universe. Church Gist. And the third is ignorance of God’s will, what does God want? Ignorance of God’s will – We read already in 1 John 5:14-15, Hebrew 11:6, John 15:7 as we saw earlier on. Ignorance! Many people are praying to an unknown God, a God they don’t know. Paul the Apostle talked about the Athenians who erected an altar to an unknown God, they don’t know the God they are asking for, for things. Many people are praying to the God whose Word they have no value for and they are praying to a God whose will they are not sure of. What He wants for them, they don’t know.
Ignorance will occasion two things where prayer is concerned:
i. Again ignorance frustrates faith because faith comes through knowledge – The knowledge of God, the knowledge of His Word, the knowledge of His will Hebrews 11:6, Romans 10:17. When we say somebody has faith, it means he knows something that others don’t know, he has some light that others don’t have. He has some understanding that others don’t have. When we were in Bauchi for Crusade and the termites and insects or whatever they were took over the stage, took over the crowd, if you saw the thing, people instead of listening to what was going on, they were just busy doing like this (Removing the termites from their bodies). I knew that was a demon of distraction from hell. Church Gist. See the choir overwhelmed! From where I was, I stood as a lion, eyes red! And I knew that everything under Heaven was to work with God and not against God. By the end of the Crusade there was not one in the air. Where did they come from? And where did they go? Somebody has been saying: “Did they die?” I don’t care! Did they fall down? I don’t know! All I knew was that wherever they came from, they went there. God cannot be working and what God created is working against God.
You remember the first night? They told us, they said: ‘Rain had not fallen and they were praying for rain’ – At the airport, they were interviewing me, so I told them, I said: ‘By the time we are leaving here, the rain will fall’, then the rain didn’t wait to hear we are leaving here, it started on the spot. Before we reached the hotel the rain started falling! It fell multiple times and then was trying to encroach on the Crusade time, rain that has not fallen is now falling sotee that it wanted to disrupt Crusade. So we started the Crusade a bit late and the sky had cleared. Now, I said: ‘Rain didn’t fall and now rain now wants to fall until it is interrupting the Crusade? We will deal with any devil that is trying to do overdrive’. Church Gist. Of what use is it for a car to speed until it stops beyond where it is meant to stop. So when I came to the Crusade ground, Pastor said: ‘We have not introduced those who needed to be introduced, choir has not sang, this and that’ and I said: ‘No way, I am going to the stage now’. What did I tell you: ‘You don’t do ceremony in warfare’. They are fighting terrorists and then they are saying they are doing ceremonial march or wearing ceremonial uniform, no way! It’s ‘camou’, battle dress is what you are wearing. So I rose up again like a lion and the first thing that happened is miracle, signs and wonders – Very brutal! When you see things happen, there are things people know! Ignorance is an attack of faith, light is the fuel for faith!
-I prophesy to somebody today, that light that will shift your faith to another level is coming to you right now.
ii. Ignorance prevents deliverance and brings destruction. Church Gist. As a matter of fact, that deliverance you are seeking at the place of prayer is prevented because of the things you don’t know Proverbs 11:9. If your prayers must deliver the right results there are things you need to know John 8:32, Hosea 4:6.
-I pray for someone here today, I ask that God will drag you into a deeper dimension of His knowledge, the knowledge of Him, the knowledge of His Word and the knowledge of His will for your life in the name of Jesus.
3. Doubt plus unbelief
Doubt and unbelief are hindrances to productive prayers Hebrew 11:6. You must believe! You can’t come to God at the place of prayer if you don’t believe – If you are in doubt. He must believe, it’s a must! Faith is a must if prayers must be answered James 1:5-7. When we say ‘Doubt’, what is the meaning of doubt? Just summary – Doubt says: ‘I am not sure God will do it’. A doubter can know that God can do it but I am not sure God will do it! That’s doubt. What of unbelief? Unbelief is worse, unbelief says: ‘I don’t believe that God will do it, God loves other people more than me. I don’t believe’. Both of them are hindrances to prayer because they are direct enemies of faith!
Two things to note:
3a. Faith is needed to get God to work. Without faith it is impossible to move God Hebrews 11:6.
3b. Faith is needed to win victory and bring the enemy into defeat.
You need faith! That enemy that is fighting you, the enemy that is the reason why you are praying in the first place, the enemy that is blocking what you are looking for. You need faith to bring that enemy into defeat 1 John 5:4. So deal with your doubt to see your results, clear your unbelief to possess your portion. There is no way to deal with doubt and unbelief than to charge yourself continually with the Word for faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. So guilt, ignorance and doubt with his senior sister unbelief.
4. Fear. Doubt and unbelief have the same parents and fear is their cousin. Fear is a major cause of unanswered prayer. Church Gist. I want to show you the disastrousness of fear very shortly. Job 3:25-26. Matthew 14:28-31. I want you to know 3 terrible things about fear:
4a. Fear is a magnet for the enemy and his calamities. Just like faith is the magnet for the Almighty and His possibilities, for with God, all things are possible. Church Gist. On the other hand, fear is a magnet for the enemy and his calamities. Job’s fear invited satan and satan came with calamities and disasters. Job 3:25-26. Church Gist. If you want to see God at work, release Faith, if you want to see the devil at work, release fear.
– every spirit of fear today, I command that fear to die!
Whenever the devil wants to go to work, he sends fear ahead of him, fear is the dispatch rider of the enemy. He sends fear ahead. Church Gist. I don’t care how many days you fast, fasting and prayer in fear is a waste of time. Fasting and prayer in Faith, congratulations!
4b. Fear is the antagonist of Faith. Jesus told Peter when Peter saw the wind, he was afraid, Jesus said, “why did you fear? Why is it that you have no Faith?” Fear is the antagonist and neutralizer of Faith. Matthew 14:31. Church Gist. Fear cancels out the effect of Faith, it is plus one, minus one. You believe one side, you’re fearing on the other side, you’re canceling out things. That is why you must deal with fear sufficiently before you step to the place of prayer. “Oh Lord, you know that my village is full of witches and wizards, I am praying this prayer now, let them not kill me like they killed other people. Oh Lord.” Church Gist. That is not praying, that is ‘fraying’ – prayer in the climate of fear. “Father, thank you because it is written, no weapon formed against me shall prosper and every tongue that rises against me in judgment, I condemn. In gathering, they shall gather but your word says, not by me, as many as gathered together against me, they shall fall for my sake! I take authority over every witchcraft power, I announce to you witches and wizards, you will die! Because the Bible said, suffer not the witch to live (speaks in tongues)”. Church Gist. I’m talking about the kind of prayer you will pray and under one minute, your eyes and countenance changed. “Every witches and wizards, I announce to you, I will be at home on 25th, let us meet!”
One day, in the university, I stood in front of the hostels and said to them, along with other brethren, “you children of the devil that came out last night and called yourself cultists, if you’re not ashamed of that devil your father, come out now and confirm that you belong to satan”. Church Gist. Not one fly could fly. They were both ashamed and afraid. I want you to delete fear, I want you to attack fear because fear is deadly.
Now, let me tell you the worst thing about fear;
4c. Fear causes already established results to disappear. Results that you already have, that you’re not praying for, begins to disappear. Church Gist. Peter was already walking on the water, the water already solidified, fear dissolved. Matthew 14:30. The water had already carried his weight, fear dissolved the water. A rich man can become poor because of fear of poverty. Somebody in health can lose the health because of fear of sickness. Somebody I know who sat by the bedside of her aunty many years ago and the aunty died. A few more years, herself got the same symptom that the aunty died of. Church Gist. One of our members in Enugu Church testified on this altar, he’s one of the top ranking officers of his political party, his friend called him about prostate cancer with all the symptoms, I think the friend died later on or something like that. He became afraid and he said on the spot, symptoms arrived. He went to the hospital, they gave diagnosis that he was not ready to hear. He said, “it’s a lie, I know where this one came from, I didn’t have it before. I only saw how my friend got it and I became afraid”. Church Gist. He dealt with it brutally, called, made demands, prayers were offered, it returned back to hell. All symptoms disappeared, everything that he had disappeared. Fear. Results and testimonies you already have can disappear to fear.
Now, I would like you to reason it, if the result you already have can disappear because you’re afraid, is it easy to get any new result with fear? Where are you getting the result from? How can you get it? How do you get it? Church Gist. Where can you get it? It is not possible to get the result in the climate of fear, what fear is doing is not trying to give you a result it is trying to take the result you already have. Job lost everything because of fear. When you have a trace of fear, begin to kill it with light – Fear of anything, premature death!
-I prophesy today, I decree to someone here today, whatever trace of fear that is trying to attack your faith is cursed to their root. Church Gist. I decree the arrest of the spirit of fear and the spirit of death! They are arrested and rejected back to hell.
Declarations: You shall fulfill your days, fear shall have no place in your life.
5. Impatience Hebrews 6:12, Galatians 6:9
Something just occurred to me now, the devil may tell you: ‘You think you can remain successful in this bad economy? Do you know how many millionaires have become paupers? Especially now, so just see how you may do things because you may crash any day. Church Gist. In this world where marriages are failing like water, do you think your marriage can remain sweet like it is? hmm! Fear small oo, just fear small! Are you sure it will remain okay? It may remain okay yesterday but not today oo, what of tomorrow’? That devil is a bastard! He said the path of the just shineth brighter and brighter not better and worse Proverbs 4:18. That is the lie of the devil.
-Whatever good thing God has done in your life, it can only get better. Church Gist. Whatever good thing you can see around your life, family and the works of your hands, it can only get better.
Patience is necessary for productive praying.
5a. Patience is the twin of faith, they travel together. Patience without faith is waiting without result, faith without patience is the abortion of the results. Church Gist. Listen to this: Where patience ends, doubt starts, every time you lose patience you gain doubt. Oh! Is it true? I mean I have waited for this long, I don’t think nothing will come out anymore Hebrews 6:12. And once doubt sets in, that’s the end!
5b. Spiritual results (Fruits) are received with patience Luke 8:15, James 5:7, Luke 21:19. Anything you would possess in God is at the mercy of your patience. The results we see today in Ministry in certain areas in the supernatural and so in, some of them we didn’t see 21 years ago. These thing (Sanctuary here) couldn’t have been built 20 years ago, life is in phases, men are in sizes. When people hurry and they want to beat God’s agenda, they look for satanic assistance. Church Gist. There are people who step into Ministry now (Today) and they want to arrive here (Crusade in Bauchi, Houston, Zambia with that kind of results) today. When it doesn’t happen today by the normal schedule, they branch to the devil. Am I communicating? There are billionaires today that it took them years to become a billionaire meanwhile there is one young boy who wants to become a billionaire today, he steps in the internet as a fraudster – There are those that they call Yahoo boys and there are those that are now Yahoo plus which means the have added occultism, cultism, sacrifice and blood money to the fraudulent thing.
Somebody sent me a clip some time ago of some young girls that ran mad as soon as they had some immoral thing with some people. Church Gist. Those madness at the frequency of satanic, diabolic wickedness. Those who are not patient enough to make things happen according to normal schedule. Am I communicating?
-Your miracle is coming!
There are men who married whom they were not meant to marry, women who married because they cannot wait for God anymore.
-You will not be a victim of such.
Don’t ever forget that spiritual results are received with patience and patience is not weakness, patience is not defeat, patience is firmness in the midst of fire. Church Gist. You are firm, you are standing! Having done all to stand, you don’t collapse, having done all to stand, you don’t faint, having done all to stand, you don’t turn your back on the devil, having done all to stand, you are on your feet! No retreat, no surrender!
-I believe that every devil that is trying to make you to give up on time that is part of discouragement and despair is arrested right now. Church Gist. And the grace to stand on your feet to see the results that you must see is released upon you right now.
For many years, I gave and I tithed and it appeared like the results were slow (That’s myself) but I believed God and I believed in the Word and I continued. I began to look for the other things I might not be doing, I began to give more aggressively, more cheerfully, with more expectation, with high faith element and now, harvests! He said: ‘Be not weary in well doing’, because there is a tendency to get tired. You are doing the right thing and it looks like: ‘Am I doing the right thing’? Because I’m not getting the results that I was told I will see, not even seeing the results that the Bible itself promised me that I will see! But in due season! There is a season that is due, there is a time that is appointed, we will reap if we faint not Galatians 6:9.
-And for somebody, that season is here! It’s a new day for you!
