– Bishop David Oyedepo
While teaching during the Second Sunday Service at Faith Tabernacle Canaanland , Bishop David Oyedepo charged the congregation to commit to studying scriptures. He said “Be committed to the searching and studying of scriptures. I mean be committed to waiting on scriptures until you truly receive them. It will renew your mind and transform your life supernaturally. I waited on Deuteronomy 8:18 until my mind was renewed and my life transformed. You may not find it immediately, it is not the day you sow a seed that it grows. Church Gist. No! But the seed is there, the future is secure. So all those words: “My prosperity plan is not a promise, it does not answer to prayers. It has no respect for fasting. My prosperity plan is a covenant. Until your part is played, I am not committed”. They came through pondering on that Word. How reliable! I stood up and said “Ye! I can never be poor. I have found it.”

He also mentioned how studying scriptures influences his distaste for poverty, In his own words, “If you listen to my teaching on prosperity in 1984, it hasn’t changed, it has only improved by more insight. I said in 1986 in response to one of us that was crying, I said “Some people are bothered that they are talking against me. That I should not say I will be rich again. Look, I will not only be rich, I will be the richest.” Church Gist. I will be the richest. Because I know it is tied to what I say based on what I believe. But here is your mouth closed. “Everybody is poor in Nigeria. Even those people in our Church.” I hate the word ‘poor’, the word ‘poor’. The word only, not to see its effect. I couldn’t identify with it since I caught that light in 1982.”
