BEWARE OF DOING NOTHING.

‎- Bishop David Oyedepo

While ministering during ongoing Annual Youth Alive Convention (AYAC) 2025 of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo has emphasized the dignity of labour. He encouraged the youths to embrace labour and shun idleness.

According to him, “Pride never pays. Pride always destroys. Pride demotes. There are some jobs that will give you dignified legitimate earnings but pride won’t let you. ‘No! Except I get a job in an oil company.’ Go and start one. It is because you are still eating, somebody is giving you free food. Wake up! You heard the story of a young man that heard me say in one of those wisdom diaries: Living without working is dying without knowing. Church Gist. He went and bought a brush and polish with 100 Liberian dollars and that opened up his destiny. Somebody was introduced to chin chin business and he got an insight to start packaging it. That was the beginning of his breakthrough. A student at Covenant University hawked bread to train himself through school.”

“You mean in all of the world, you can’t find anything? God said whatever your hand finds to do,  do it with all your might (Ecclesiastes 9:10). I was once a primary school teacher, I taught in secondary school and I am still teaching now. No downtime is the way up. Every job is a learning curve. Somebody sits down at home and says he is looking for a job, first year, second year, third year, they should chase you out. Go out, my friend. Go and do something. One of my young ones was teaching Economics in secondary schools around during his NYSC. Church Gist. He made ₦2,000,000 during NYSC. You are carrying a tie and wearing a three piece or four piece coat around. Every down time destroys capacity. Beware of downtimes in your life – a time you are doing nothing. In the age when teenagers are authors, you are doing nothing. You have first degree, second degree and you are sitting down. “My uncle is a very bad man. My niece is worse. All my relations are irresponsible.” It’s because you are not working. So they will be carrying you on their back?”

“I dug a foundation in Year 3 of secondary school. I didn’t have to, I am not from a poor family but I wanted to be a man. I had blisters in my hand. I bought my first pair of schools for myself in Year 3 of secondary school. It was like a car to me. They call the shoe ‘apollos’. And a full grown adult is sitting at home “Mum, is my food ready?” If that was my mother, she would tell you, your food is in the farm. Church Gist. Just go to the farm, you will find your food by the roadside. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. Stop saying you are looking for capital. They grow capital. Capital is not anywhere, you develop capital. Develop capital. People are not working and they have two phones, have you ever heard that in your life? You are not working but you are always on your phone. You even block your two ears so that you can’t hear anything. When will you prepare for tomorrow?”
