‘I am one of those people the glass is always half full, so there are very few lows in my life. I see the bright side even when I’m going through difficulties and challenges; I just believe very strongly that it is a learning process. It is part of your journey and that’s my general philosophy of life. I believe that all things work together for good. I really absolutely believe it for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose. So I don’t have many lows.’
- Pastor Agu Irukwu
Pastor Agu Irukwu is a Special Assistant to the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye and a member of RCCG’s World Advisory Council. He is a Regional Pastor, the Senior Pastor of Jesus House for all the Nations, London. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Executive Council of the RCCG in the United Kingdom (UK); he serves as the Chairman of the RCCG UK Regional Board.
Pastor Irukwu was born into an Anglican family of a lawyer father and a broadcaster mother in 1964, Nigeria. After his primary and secondary school in Nigeria, he followed the legal footpath of his family and proceeded to study law at the University of Warwick.
As a young man, he went to church only to please his mother as he was more interested in making money than knowing God. At the age of 27, when he was just starting his own law firm, he was invited to a worship service in Model Parish of RCCG in Lagos, Nigeria. That encounter changed his life because before then, he had never seen so many young happy people in church. He decided to go back to the Church and in a short period of time, he became committed and started to spend more time doing the things of God and less time on his legal practice. He met the General Overseer of RCCG Pastor E. A. Adeboye after a while in the Church.
In August 1993, Pastor Irukwu was ordained a pastor. 1994, while he was at the UK, he was asked to oversee a small Church (Jesus House Parish) for a month while they found a substantive pastor. Months became years and Pastor Irukwu remained the Senior Pastor of Jesus House.
Under the stewardship of Pastor Irukwu, Jesus House Parish became the largest and fastest growing denomination in Britain. Heir to the English Throne, Prince Charles visited The Parish for his 59th birthday. In 2007, Pastor Agu’s wife, Ify Agu-Irukwu passed on to glory at the age of 40, leaving behind two lovely children. In 2009, he married Sola Irukwu and they have been blessed with a third child.
Pastor Irukwu passion for Christ has led him over the years to bring souls to Christ; his faithful service to the Kingdom cannot be ignored. In 2016, he received the Alphege award for Evangelism and Witness by the Archbishop of Canterbury the Most Reverend and Rt Hon Justin Welby at Lambeth Palace. In 2017 he was appointed the Pentecostal President of Churches Together in England (CTE) or the UK version of Nigeria’s PFN (Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria) for the period of October 17 to September 2021.
God Bless Him!
