While making his closing statement at the RCCG 2025 Convention, Pastor Adeboye shared a moving testimony about a prayer request he received which taught him the essence of praying in one’s native language.
He recounted a call he received late one night from a member in Georgia, USA, whose child was dying. Church Gist. He explained that he typically avoids carrying his phone during his night prayers in the camp, but on this particular occasion, the call came in while he was at home.
Facing a serious crisis, he said he resorted to praying in his mother tongue (Yoruba), where he doesn’t have to check grammar. He shared the specific, heartfelt prayer he uttered: “Loni loni loni Oluwa kin se lola. Loni loni loni se iyanu.” (Meaning “Today, today, today, O Lord, not tomorrow. Today, today, today, perform a miracle.”)

According to the testimony shared by the person who called, the prayer lasted exactly two minutes and ten seconds and God responded immediately.
He concluded by stating that during his closing prayers at the Convention, he will first pray in English and then in the “Loni loni” language, highlighting the power of earnest, unscripted prayer in one’s native language.
