Dr. Paul Enenche on Sunday, 22nd June 2025 commented on the recent viral video of him and his wife turning down a 30 million Naira cash donation made to support the crusade they held in Birnin-Kebbi by the Kebbi State Government.
“I’m sure that the only people that will be surprised at that event of the money and all of that is only people who don’t know us because these are the principles we live by, not from today, from the scratch, 20-something years. We have come to meetings where, ‘okay, let’s pray for the country’ or something like that and then, ‘everybody take your envelope’ and I reversed at the spot. My wife is aware and I said this is the last time that I’ll be in a thing like this”, he said.
He narrated how he paid his own airfare and rejected an honourarium when he was invited as a Guest Minister by the Pilgrims’ Welfare Board to minister at a presidential pilgrimage to Israel attended by former President, Goodluck Jonathan and other Government officials in 2014. He went on to narrate other events where he refused taking honourarium from other Government officials as he cannot tell if they were giving him their State’s ‘Security Vote’ or not.
Speaking further, he said, “President Goodluck Jonathan, in his office, visited our Church twice in Area One twice. All through that reign, one shishi, then, now, did not exchange hand. Not one dime of Government shishi is in this project (Glory Dome). I’m saying that so nobody thinks that it’s targeted at a people. It wasn’t an action to show anything or to even be disrespectful in any way, it is a rooted principle”.
Concluding, he explained reasons why he doesn’t accept donations from Government Officials. In his words, “Government money, supposing this is security vote or money meant for something is not meant to cross over into Church. We don’t want have our record in Government record that they gave us something. Thirdly, we want to be able to speak when we need to speak. I can go on and on just to clarify that this is not targeted at anybody”.
