  • Brother Ọlusola Adesope on “THE POWER OF PRAISE” || Come let us repair the Altar of the Lord || Apostolic Faith Church West and Central Africa Camp Meeting || Apostolic Faith Campground, Igbesa Ogun State, Nigeria || 11th August 2024

We take our text this morning from Psalm 150:1-2. We are thankful for the faithfulness of God.

First, on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Apostolic Faith Church Headquarters and the Saints of God at the Headquarters Church in Portland Oregon, I bring you greetings. Church Gist. We want to thank God for giving my wife and I the privilege to be here for the start of this 2024 Faith City Camp Meeting as well as the 80th Anniversary of the Founding of this great and wonderful work in Nigeria. Indeed, what the Lord has done is marvellous. What started as a little seed in a little room has now grown to be a great part of the global work of the Apostolic Faith. The Bible says, despise not the day of small beginning. We thank God for what the Lord has done in WECA. Church Gist. We thank God for all of our Africa Overseers, all of our WECA District Superintendent, right from Brother Timothy Oshokoya to our present leader in WECA – Brother Isaac Adigun, we also thank God for all of you who have laboured faithfully alongside many of these leaders and those who continue to labour here in WECA and all around the world, may God continue to bless the Apostolic Faith Church. This morning with God’s help, we will continue.

The theme of this morning’s service, we will look into a message titled, “The power of Praise” – the power of praising God. For us to hold this very first service under this covered Church Tabernacle is a big answer to prayers. Church Gist. You know when I was growing up, we marvelled at how God helped our Fathers to build the Tabernacle in Anthony. Many of us marvelled at that construction in the 1970s. We wondered, how did they do this? We knew it was through the power of God but we wished and prayed that a miracle will happen in our own generation too. I want to congratulate you if you are here this morning. This is a momentous occasion; this is a historic occasion; a miracle is happening right now; a miracle has happened here! That you and I can be seated under this great tabernacle, I see it and I can think and I hope I am right, this is the largest, the biggest Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in the whole world. God is good! So there’s nothing we are going to do today than to praise God because God inhabits the praises of his people. This is a day of Thanksgiving. Church Gist. You know God will use this tabernacle to spark a renewed love for this Gospel. God will use this tabernacle to spark a renewed fire, a rekindled fire will fall from Heaven. God will use this tabernacle to spark a great revival – not just only in WECA but throughout the whole world. This is a day of Thanksgiving.

You know, I think about that song – number 20 in our hymn book. It says:

We are never, never weary of the grand old song;
Glory to God, hallelujah!
We can sing it loud as ever, with our faith more strong;
Glory to God, hallelujah!

O, the children of the Lord have a right to shout and sing, We have a right; God has given us a right to shout and sing
For the way is growing bright, and our souls are on the wing;
We are going by and by to the palace of a King!
Glory to God, hallelujah!

O we praise God today. You know, when you think about Psalm 150, it is the culmination of the book of Psalms. Some Bible scholars have labelled this psalm as the highest peak of praise to God. Psalm 1 began by pointing us to God and his Word. Psalm 1:1-end. Church Gist. Then it continues through different phases, that Psalm continues through the Psalms we venture into valleys, we traverse trials, it talked about overcoming obstacles but amidst all of those petitions, amidst of all of those pleas, amidst of all of those cries and laments, the Psalms are lifting us heavenward aiming for the summit of God’s glory and that brought glory, grace and praises came up in Psalm 150 when the Psalmist declared, “praise ye the Lord…” Church Gist. That is why where we are this morning, the Psalmist talks about who to praise. We need to praise God.

Our leader here, Brother Adigun told us the glory goes to God. We are not praising any man here. We know the source, the whom, the one we should praise. Psalm 150:1. This morning we are going to praise God. It also tells us where to praise God and we are seated in the right place to praise God. We are seated in the sanctuary of the Lord. Church Gist. We are seated in this great tabernacle and the Psalmist said, praise God in his sanctuary. We will do that today. He said we should praise him for his mighty acts – isn’t this (the Tabernacle) mighty, wonderful? Are you not going to praise God this morning?

You know, this Psalm 150 just 6 verses (and) the word “praise” appeared here 13 times all prompting us to praise God. This morning as a whole Church by the grace of God we will praise God. Church Gist. You know, may be there are some here who might be wondering: “I brought problems to this 2024 Camp Meeting; why are they telling me to praise God?” May be there are some here who are languishing in sin and they were wondering, sin has beaten them down and they are wondering, “why should I praise God?” You know what? I have good news for you this morning: we sing that song in the US. It says when the praises go up, the blessings will come down. When you praise God this morning, God will save your soul. When you praise God this morning God will sanctify you. Church Gist. You that have been looking to be filled with the Holy Spirit, when you start to praise God, when you start to go into the closet of God, when you start to mean business with God and you start to praise him, the spirit of God will descend in this tabernacle. The glory of God will descend in this tabernacle!

You think about people who praised God during times of blessings and victories like we are now: Miriam the older sister of Moses and Aaron. She praised God with other women when they crossed the Red Sea. Church Gist. You know what happened? Pharaoh had said God’s people will not go and God said his people will go. Left to the devil, the devil did not want this great tabernacle to be but God said, it shall be. That was what Pharaoh did to the children of Israel but God sent 10 different plagues. It devastated the land of Egypt. Pharaoh now finally agreed to let the Israelites leave. Not so long after they left, he began to pursue them, he began to go after them. Church Gist. Then the children of Israel saw right in front of them the Red Sea, behind them, they saw the chariot and the army of Pharaoh but God told Moses that let my people go forward. By the grace of God during this camp meeting, you will go forward!
You will go forward spiritually, you will go forward in all ways!

The children of Israel did that; they did what God commanded. They marched forward. You know what God told Moses? Stretch that rod. As he stretched that rod, God … That was not very former. That’s what God can do. You know what God has done for us here is not very former. Church Gist. I love that song which says: for it was not very former for fire to come down from the sky. This is not former. Even in the United States I look at this building, I said, “ah! Which construction company can finish this in 5 months even in advanced Western world.” This is a marvel, this is a wonder, this is a miracle. But you know what, the children of Israel they crossed through on dry ground. The power of God took them through.

  • Maybe you came here with the Red Sea in front of you, by the time you start to praise God, God will part all your Red Sea!

The children of Pharaoh, the Egyptians, they thought they were going to do as the children of Israel did but you know what happened to them? Church Gist. Their chariots began to wobble.

  • All your problems, at this Camp Meeting, they will begin to wobble because God will grant you victory!

This is a solution center, this is a solution tabernacle, this is the house of the Lord. God will break shackles here! God will do miracles here! You know, the children of Israel began to sing. God gave them more victory. Church Gist. I don’t have the time to go into many many others where God granted victory. Where when it seemed that there was no hope at all but I love that song again it says:

Trust on! trust on, believer!
Tho’ long the conflict be,
Thou yet shall prove victorious;
Thy God shall fight for thee.

Trust on! (trust on!)
Trust on! (trust on!)
Tho’ dark the night and drear;
Trust on! (trust on!)
Trust on! (trust on!)
The morning dawn is near.

Your morning dawn is near! You know, I love what the book of Psalms says, “weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh …” Look at that word, “weeping MAY,” it’s a may but I love the certainty of the joy. It says, joy cometh. Joy is coming; so you need to praise God. Revival is coming; God is coming; joy cometh in the morning. Church Gist. But if you are here with problems and you were wondering, “how can I praise God?” Let me quickly wrap this up: Paul and Silas, they were inside the depth of problems. They had taken them, they put them in prison but in prison Paul was not saying, “ah! Silas see what happened. You should have told me not to cast out that devil,” or Silas was not saying, “Paul, see what you caused.” But they did something, they encouraged themselves. I can imagine Paul telling Silas, “Silas, you better get up let’s begin to do the unthinkable. Let’s begin to praise God.” Silas did not say, “Paul, are you crazy?” Silas said, God bless you Paul, I will join you. You know, they began to praise God, they began to glorify God. You know what the Bible says, there was an earthquake. The doors of the prison were loosened. Church Gist. Oh when you begin to praise God, there will be a spiritual earthquake in this tabernacle today! The doors of prison, those things that have shackled you, sin that has shackled you, the prison problem, sicknesses, problems that have shackled you, by the special grace of God, with the God of the Apostolic Faith Church, God who built this tabernacle, they will open up!
You are going to walk free from your prison!

But you must remember to praise God, you must remember to thank God, to glorify God. Did you ever know that in Jonah 2:1-10, that Jonah praised God in the belly (of the fish)? He praised God. How dark that place must be! Jonah could have said, “God, what you did to me was not nice.” But Jonah said, Lord, I will do something different. Church Gist. I will do something unusual. Jonah 2:9-10. When you begin to praise God, where the devil has put you in the belly of a fish, in the darkness of this world, you know God will command, “vomit him/her! She is free!” God will deliver you, God will free you! You know, David also praised God. But before I finish, let me even talk about the praising God that happened when the children of Israel got to Jericho. Joshua 6:1-5. You know if I will take permission this morning from our District Superintendent, when you and I will begin to praise God this morning, the choir members, the orchestra begin to play for us. You know what? God will make a way for us. We are going to have victory this morning. The walls of your Jericho, they will begin to come down! God will grant you victory, he will grant me victory. Ah we have a lot to praise God for! Look at this tabernacle; should we not praise God for it? You came here safely; you know how many people have been abducted before they could even travel one hour and God brought you – several hours? You got here safely; you were not abducted! God kept you safe! Church Gist. Are you not supposed to praise God? I will praise God. Psalm 91:1-2. We will praise God. This economic hardship, God gave you food. He fed you like he fed that man of God and he brought you here. Many have died; would you not praise God? When you praise God, God will do miracles. Your walls of Jericho will come down. God will do great things for us. God will bless you, he will save your soul, he will sanctify you, he will fill you with the Holy Spirit. Come, the Lord will bless you as we sing this song.
