26 February 1738: English revivalist George Whitefield writes in a letter: “God, I find, has a people everywhere; Christ has a flock, though but a little flock, in all places”. Whitefield was a major figure in the First Great Awakening (1730s – 1740s) and a pioneer of open-air preaching.

26 February 1886: Henry Townsend, the pioneering English missionary who brought the first printing press to Nigeria and founded the country’s first newspaper, Iwe Irohin, passes on to glory. His work in Abeokuta was instrumental in the spread of Christianity and literacy in West Africa.


26 February 1984: The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) is officially inaugurated in Accra, Ghana, by Reverend Dr. Mensa Otabil. Starting with an initial membership of about twenty people in a small classroom, the ministry has grown into one of Africa’s most influential charismatic churches.

26 February 2021: Bishop Moses Grandeur, the General Overseer of Victory Family Assembly (VIFA), goes home to be with the Lord. He was a trailblazer who championed Pentecostal evangelism in Sapele during the 1980s.

26 February 2012: A car bomb tragically targets the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) headquarters in Jos, Nigeria, during a Sunday service. The attack, claimed by the Islamist group Boko Haram, killed six people, including a toddler, and injured 50 others.
