16th August 2020: Bishop David Oyedepo dares the amended Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) signed into Law by then President Muhammadu Buhari on the 7th of August 2025. In his own words: “Don’t try it! The Church is not a club neither should it be mistaken for a company”.

Section 839 of CAMA 2020 stated that “The Commission may by order, suspend the trustees of an association or a religious body and appoint an interim manager(s) to coordinate its affairs where it reasonably believes that there has been any misconduct or mismanagement.” The Christian Association Of Nigeria (CAN) rejected CAMA 2020 and dragged the Federal Government to Court. The Federal  High Court ruled in favour of CAN on the 21st of March 2023. The judgement prevents the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) from interfering or taking over affairs of churches in Nigeria. It was announced in January 2024 that the controversial CAMA 2020 bill will be reviewed by the House Of Representatives.

16th August 2020: Faith Tabernacle Canaanland, Ota becomes the first church to resume full services after the lockdown as congregants gather to give thanks and celebrate God for keeping the Church active for 20 Sundays despite the lockdown. This period kept the 50,000-capacity auditorium inactive for the first time since its dedication in 1999. Additionally, Bishop David Oyedepo announced the employment of over 4,000 staff during the lockdown and Living Faith Church Worldwide also plants 520 new churches.

16th August 1875: Charles Grandison Finney goes to be with the Lord. He was an American Presbyterian Minister who was known for leading the Second Great Awakening in the United States of America.

16th August 2024: Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) begins her 35th Anniversary and Church Convention. Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries was founded by Dr. Daniel Kolawale (D.K.) Olukoya in 1989.

16th August 1986: Thomas Aremu weds Elizabeth Moradeyo. Bishop Thomas Aremu is a former Presbyter (Missions Inspectorate Service) of Living Faith Church Worldwide.

16th August 1997: Korede Komaiya weds Esther Omotayo. Pastors Korede and Esther Komaiya are the Lead Pastors of The Master’s Place International Church.
