27th January 2002: The foundation stone of the permanent site of Covenant University, Nigeria was laid. The construction began in March of the same year and the first phase of development was completed within 7 months. The University was dedicated on 20th October 2002 which subsequently became known as the Founders’ Day after which, she welcomed her first batch of students into an ultramodern state of the arts facility and a full-boarding campus.
27th January, 1944: Archbishop Peter Jasper Akinola is born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He is a Primate Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). He is the founder of Peter Akinola Foundation, a non governmental organization with a mission to help youths become economically empowered.
January 27, 1860: Reuben ‘Bud’ Robinson, popularly known as the Stuttering Evangelist is born in White County, Tennessee. He stuttered so badly that men howled with laughter to hear him attempt to witness to people, yet he converted over 300 people in his first year of preaching. God eventually transformed him into a notable evangelist, writer and soul winner. He traveled over one million miles preaching the Gospel and won over 200,000 souls for Christ. He passed on to glory at the age of 82.
January 27, 398: John Chrysostom, regarded as the greatest preacher of his time according to the Eastern Orthodox Church is consecrated Bishop of Constantinople (modern day Istanbul, Turkey). He was an eloquent and uncompromising preacher of the Gospel who stood for the truth even in the face of persecution. He passed on to glory at the age of 60.
