In every Service like this, there is always a catch-up moment. ‘If you see me when I’m caught up, you will get it. If you don’t, you will miss it.’ Church Gist. Therefore, let your eyelids look straight before you because God has your Word for you today that will set you free from the siege of depression all the days of your life.
You will rush in your testimony online!
- Therefore receive grace to stay focused because today is ordained your own day in the name of Jesus!
Lord, breathe on your Word today. Let it meet the prepared heart of your people…and you are going to have your testimony! Church Gist. He was teaching and the power of God was present to set people free, to heal them.
‘TOWARDS OUR RESCUE’ is what I’ll be speaking on this morning. ‘TOWARDS OUR RESCUE FROM THE SIEGE OF DEPRESSION.’
First, recognize that depression is not a psychological issue. It’s a spiritual issue. Depression is a spirit. The Bible calls it the spirit of heaviness. The moment you carry any luggage beyond your capacity, you go down. Church Gist. If you attempt to tow a 16 wheeler trailer by a Volkswagen beetle car, the engine will crack. So we can’t tell how many have been destroyed by the siege of depression.
All suicides are direct offsprings of depression. That’s how much that heavy weight can cost a man. 🎼🎶🎵But I am so glad, I belong to Jesus, I belong to Jesus, I belong to my Lord. Church Gist. I am so glad that I belong to Jesus, I belong to Jesus, I belong to my Lord. (Singing)
This siege is no respecter of status. It holds both the king and the peasant in captivity. It held down Hannah from fruitfulness for years. Church Gist. And until her countenance was no more sad, her barrenness did not go. 1 Samuel 1:18-19. She never laid hold on her testimony.
King David was greatly depressed. The Bible said he was greatly distressed because people thought of stoning him for their wives and for their sons and their daughters and God came through. Church Gist. If he had stayed in that state of depression, he would have committed suicide. 1 Samuel 30:6. I could picture that state in his song in Psalm 42:5-6…so he was cast down.
There are many kings that are under the weight of depression day and night. There are many rich people that couldn’t catch a sleep. So as it happens to the poor, it happens to the rich. It’s a spirit and just like the mission of the devil, it is to steal, to kill and to destroy. Church Gist. That is one platform, he engages. It robs you of every blessing of redemption. If unchecked, it kills and if you kill yourself, you will go to hell. So it steals, it kills and it destroys.
That’s why you find the virtue of joy as one of the core virtues of redemption. At newbirth, there’s the joy of salvation. At baptism in the Holy Ghost, there’s joy, intoxicating joy. Romans 14:17. Church Gist. When the Holy Ghost came, they saw them as drunks…it’s intoxicating joy. And then, there is the joy of revelation. Jeremiah 15:16.
So you see, our adventure in the faith is clouded in joy to secure access to our inheritance and walk in victory. Church Gist. So every believer is ordained a bundle of joy and until he robs you and me of that joy, he can’t rob us of our bundle of blessings.
Among The Things We Are Robbed Of By Depression, Are The Following:
- It robs us of access to our inheritance. Because it is only with joy you can have access to revelation. Isaiah 12:3, 2 Peter 1:3, Psalm 16:11. So we can’t access the path of revelation without joy. Only joyful people flow in revelation. And we can’t access our possession without revelation. Acts 20:32. Church Gist. So it robs believers access to revelation so as to keep them frustrated and defeated because until light breaks forth, your breakthrough can’t come forth. Isaiah 60:1, Psalm 119:130…and breakthrough follows light.
- You will not be robbed again!
- Health. Proverbs 17:22. So depression dries health. Proverbs 18:14. Church Gist. When your soul is broken, your body breaks along.
- Everyone who has lost his or health to depression, I decree your liberty today!
If you go around in a hospital, it’s the headquarters of depression. Everybody is carrying long faces about. How far? ‘A mo bose ri o’ (We don’t know how it is o). ‘Olorun wa nibe o’ (God is there o). Everybody…you will hardly see people laugh in the hospital. So the devil sits down there to start knocking down people because even when you laugh, they think that you are wicked. Church Gist. You must just be sorrowful as you arrive there. So it robs people of their health. Nehemiah 8:10
- I therefore decree today, the outbreak of the oil of joy and the oil of gladness!
Everytime you hiss on your situation, it keeps going worse and worse. I thank you, God, that I’m still breathing. I thank God that it’s only one hand that is not working, the other one is working. I thank God that’s only my heart that is affected, my kidneys and others are working. Church Gist. (Singing in Yoruba). I mean, somebody’s celebrating. ‘Even if I die, I know where I am going.’ He says, “okay, you will live.” That even if I die, I’m going to Heaven. God says’ “Okay, you will live.”
When your joy bounces back, your life bounces back. People don’t know what they are losing when they are cast down. Because you lost a job, you want to lose your life? Church Gist. You lost a TV and you can’t smile again (laughs).
- May overflowing joy return from this Service with you!
- Fruitfulness like we read about Hannah. She was a depressed soul as they came to Shiloh annually. She said, “I am speaking from the bitterness of my heart.” Church Gist. Thank God for Eli’s intervention. She would have been going to Shiloh for life and remain childless for life. But a prophetic word came. She received it – the spirit of depression left and her testimony came.
Until that spirit leaves, our testimony is not in view. It must go. Jesus hardly intervenes in the midst of tears. He would always say, ‘weep not my friend. Why are you making this kind of noise? This child is not dead, he is alive.’ He is our ‘weep not’ High Priest. ‘If you want me to intervene, get out of that sorrow. Get out of that depression. Revelation 5:5. Church Gist. Isaiah 54:1…that’s the most difficult thing for the barren to do particularly when she’s being mocked, assaulted by neighbours, family members, senior sister (and) senior brother. ‘Be following God like ‘mumu’. There is one ‘babalawo’ (witch doctor) somewhere. I said, ‘come there. You said, you are Jesus boy, Jesus girl. Papa has deceived you.’
‘Sing, O barren.’ If you don’t want to remain barren, ‘sing O barren.’ You want to be fruitful, ‘sing, O barren.’ You want your miracle children, ‘sing, O barren.’ What a prescription? There is so much inside you. If you will sing aloud for the mockers to mock. Church Gist. You will find one called barren and under this heavy weight of mockery (singing in Yoruba) – ‘ah, this woman is mad. This is Winners madness.’ (Laughs) (Singing and dancing) – ‘see, he’s dancing o. Nobody is beating drum (laughs). That’s how to break forth to your realm of fruitfulness. So, it robs God’s people of their inheritance of fruitfulness but that ends today!
- It also robs us of our breakthrough heritage in Christ. Every child of God is redeemed a breakthrough entity, a breakthrough personality. We are redeemed as the light of the World. We are redeemed to be pacesetters, redeemed to be pathfinders, redeemed to be trailblazers. We are a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. Church Gist. But for your breakthrough and my breakthrough to keep flourishing, break forth into singing. Sing aloud! 🎶🎼🎵Paul and Silas, they prayed, they sang, the Holy Ghost came down. They prayed, no motion. They sang, Heaven came down. Acts 16:26. They sang praises and the prisoners heard them not singing quietly in your heart – “🎶🎼🎵Jesus, set me free, I cannot be bound…‘yeye people. You cannot be bound, look at chain in your hand, look at iron chain in your feet.’ (Continues singing) 🎶🎼🎵Jesus, set me free, I cannot be bound…the prisoners heard them. Isaiah 54:2-3.
- Somebody is laying hold on something right now!
So like David, charge yourself “why are thou cast down o my soul? Don’t you know the cost? Church Gist. Don’t you know the danger? Come out, my friend! Psalm 42:5.
- It robs us of peace. Without peace, God can’t take over your battle and my battle. Exodus 14:14. So it robs us of peace; afflicts God’s people with anxieties, apprehensions and uncertainties. Church Gist. So, God leaves them to the fight. But when you are at peace, God said, I will take over your battle.
- Therefore, every arrow of depression that has robbed you of your peace…that makes God take over your battle returns back to where it came from!
I have been involved in some near death situations but at rest by His grace and He took over the fight. I see God taking over the battles of your life! That’s how to become more than a conqueror. God is the One fighting and you are the one that they see with the victory. “Ah, that lady is powerful.” No, she’s only fronting for the Fighter. Church Gist. There are many fighting believers and there are quite some believers that God is doing their fight. By your strength, you can’t win the battle of life. 1 Samuel 2:9. How many want God to take over their battle?
- Therefore come out of depression now in the name of Jesus!
Now we are in our season of harvest of rewards.
- Depression robs God’s people of the rewards of stewardship. Joel 1:11-12. If you don’t serve Him with joyfulness and gladness of heart, serving God is counter productive. Church Gist. Deuteronomy 28:47-48. So depression cancels the rewards of our stewardship. satan robs us through the spirit of depression for accessing our rewards of stewardship.
- He has lost out in your life today in the name of Jesus!
- Can I hear you say? “I’m free at last. I’m free forever. I’m free at last.”
The good news is, as long as you remain joined to the living God, our case can never become hopeless. Ecclesiastes 9:4, 1 Peter 1:3. So when we are saved, we now have the heritage of a living hope. The hope that must culminate in glory and in honour. Romans 5:5. As you remain connected, your tomorrow comes alive so we call it living hope. Church Gist. Now, Joseph saw a vision through his dream. He escaped being killed by his brother, ended up as a slave in Potiphar’s house, lied against him and he landed in the prison. But he was an ever excited young man.
He was so charming that Potiphar’s wife preferred him to the Husband. Because Potiphar will return home, down. You will greet him, he won’t answer. And Joseph the Slave is always singing as he washes plates, as he’s cleaning the ground. She said, this is a better husband. (Laughs) In the prison, this man that was calculated against who should be downcast, he would go around and say, ‘why are you sad today? Church Gist. Why are you sad? What’s happening?’ He should be the saddest. They said you committed rape which you didn’t commit. Right? But with joy, what he saw 13 years before came to pass.
Not that there is hope for you, you have hope. You are ordained a partaker of the root and the fatness of Christ. So you have hope. You have hope. Job 14:14…he was too sure of his change coming. Church Gist. He was down and almost out. He said, but my change is coming. Did it come or not? ‘Till my change come.’
Everyone in this House today, say with me from the depth of your heart – my change is on the way. My change is sure coming. My situation will not remain like this. I will carry my miracle children. My change is coming. I will be settled in marriage. My change is coming. Church Gist. My business will not be struggling. My change is coming. I will not go backward in my life. My forward movement is coming. My breakdown is over. My breakthrough is here. I thank you Jesus! ‘Till my change comes.’
- Everyone that came here sick, your change is coming!
- God never lies, your change is coming!
- You will walk again on your feet!
- You will enjoy living!
- You will not die young!
- You will not end up disabled!
- Your change is coming!
Hebrews 12:2. Please, see the celebration ahead of you and let no depression have any hold on your path.
- Your change is sure coming! Job 14:14.
- Your change is coming!
It may appear dead, he said, but through the scent of water, it will bud again. The root may have waxed old in the ground. Church Gist. Everybody thinks the case is over but through the scent of water, it will bud again. Job 14:7-8…and we are redeemed as trees of righteousness…and people think it’s over like they thought about the Man, Abraham even Sarah thought so. She said, ‘okay, have a child through my maid.’ Romans 4:18….(Abraham) was driven by the Word.
- Your change is sure!
Abraham’s hope was kept alive all the way through and so his change came. Your case cannot be closed until it is decided in your favour. Church Gist. Don’t close your case. No devil in hell can close your case until God decides it in your favour.
- Sir, your hope of getting a job must come alive because in this month of harvest of rewards, your miracle jobs that make men burst into laughter is here!
- The indebtedness that has been bringing you depression will be lifted! Thank you Jesus!
- The good news is, the struggle of your life is over!
Now watch. By redemption, we have been translated from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light. Now, what’s obtained in the kingdom of darkness is weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 25:30. That’s the culture of the kingdom of darkness. But we have been translated. Church Gist. We are now seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus far above where the taskmasters of hell live who sit on people’s life and destiny. And in heavenly places, it’s the Kingdom of laughter. Psalm 2:4.
You belong to the Kingdom of laughter not weeping. You belong to the Kingdom of laughter, break forth into laughter. You are no longer in the kingdom where they weep and gnash their teeth. Because you see every battle as already won, that’s what makes you to laugh. Church Gist. Because you see every battle of your life has already won, that Christ has taken over your battle. He can never return defeated. So you are there to laugh.
- I decree restoration of your laughter!
Now as we round up. You know why we are doing this? It is through the scent of water that your hope is revived and depression is rooted out and your victory comes along. Church Gist. The scent of water means the Word of God. Romans 15:4. So hope is stirred by the Word.
- You will know that something has happened in your life!
- Depression will have nowhere to hang around in your life anymore!
- You won’t miss God’s presence anymore! Thank you Jesus!
Two Ways To Deal With The Spirit of Depression
- Jesus said to them, “in my name, you shall cast out devils which include the spirit of depression.” It includes the spirit of heaviness. Church Gist. So the name of Jesus has power to cast out the spirit of depression.
- Therefore in the name of Jesus Christ, I command the spirit of depression off your life and never enter in again!
What’s in that Name?
i. The authority of the Father. The Father has given Him authority to have it the way He wants it at any time. So you see from John 5, the Father has given Him authority. From Romans 11:29, His gift is without repentance, it’s there forever. So the integrity of God is in that Name. Church Gist. When you say in the name of Jesus, He says “yes, I have given Him authority to execute also because He is the Son of man.” John 5:27, John 5:21. In the name of Jesus, out of that body – He says, yes, I agree. 3 John 1:2, John 10:10b.
- In the name of Jesus, you foul spirit of heaviness, get out of everyone under the sound of my voice right now and enter in no more!
- He was casting out evil spirits by His Word. Matthew 8:16.
- As the spirit of depression leaves you now, be healed in your body!
He was casting out evil spirits with His Word (speaking in tongues). There was this madman in one of our outreaches years ago. He got delivered from the crusade but the following day, those evil spirits came back on him. He became violent. They were trying to hold him down, he was breaking everybody up. So they called me and as I got there, I said, this is not a problem – leave him. Church Gist. And I spoke one word from Jude 1:6. So I pointed my finger to him, “what are you doing here?” (He breathed heavily) The spirit of insanity left on the spot. That’s the power of light. The dominion of light over darkness is instant and unquestionable. John 1:5.
It is written – one. It is written – two. It is written – three…‘satan leaveth Him.’ (Laughs) That’s the power of light. When Jesus the Light of the World came into this World, demons would see Him and be screaming, “have you come to destroy us before the time?” That’s the dominion of light over darkness. Church Gist. Whatever Word you receive in your heart whether you are asleep or awake, that Word is working because the Word never sleeps like the Father. God never sleeps nor slumbers. John 1:1. So any Word you receive Sir in your heart not in your head, in your spirit which also does not sleep and the Word of God does not sleep. So whether you are attacked in the night or in the day, light breaks forth – darkness scatters.
- It’s your turn!
He was casting out evil spirits with His Word.
Finally, the anointing is described as the oil of joy. Church Gist. Psalm 45 describes it as the oil of gladness. Isaiah called it the oil of joy.
- Today, as this oil comes on your head, the yoke of depression is destroyed!
- The yoke of depression leaves you forever!
We were on board our flight (our plane) and about 30 minutes to the flight, the plane was slowing down. So I went in to ask the Captain. Church Gist. By this time he was sweating like fountain of water. I said, what’s the matter? ‘We have just lost one engine.’ I said, now, turn back.
God has taken over your battle!
Some were saved before but they went away. They began to experience like the case of the prodigal son. He was down and out but he returned home…This my father is always smiling. Where is the joy of my salvation? His wife was sick and almost dying and he was still rejoicing and still praying for the sick and still shouting hallelujah. Church Gist. Now where is the joy of my salvation? If that is not sorted, you can’t experience joy in the kingdom of darkness. Weeping and gnashing of the teeth is the order of the day. But in the Kingdom of Christ, laughter upon laughter, happiness and joy from one realm to another.

Watch. Beware of anxieties. How many of you being anxious can add a cubic of stature to his flesh? Matthew 6:27. You can’t do it. Church Gist. So why being anxious? ‘What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms?’

- Whatever damage depression has caused in your life will be restored now!
When Saul was anointed, the asses that were lost were found.
- Whatever you have lost in the war against depression, you are getting it back today!
- Your closed womb reopens today!
- As this oil touches your head, you will be turned into another man!
- Beginning from today, God will turn you to a surprise to yourself!
- You will find yourself singing which you have not done for many years apart from being in Church!
You have not done any personal singing of celebration of God by reason of the siege of depression. Church Gist. The devil knows that until you sing, you can’t be fruitful. Until you sing, you can’t have breakthroughs. Until you sing, you can’t have revelation.
- It’s over today!
- You will start singing your new song!
- In the midst of your singing, your harvest of rewards will start dropping!
- In the midst of your singing, your barrenness will be over!
- In the midst of your singing, your breakthrough will land! Thank you Jesus!
- Everyone who got into a state of sickness or disease by depression, today is declared your day of escape!
Now, watch! The rate of suicide is increasing worldwide. It is the spirit of heaviness that is invading the Earth. It’s the spirit of depression. There are cases of paralysis and stroke – a number of them are traceable to uncontrolled depression. Church Gist. Can we tell how many have gone to the grave through depression? Depression is sorrow – heavy weight sorrow.
- Today, as this oil comes on your head, the spirit of depression flees from your life!
Mark 6:12. Now what that Scripture means is this, they anointed many that had devils, cast them out and them that were sick, healed them.
- As this oil comes on your head, the spirit of depression flees from your life and your healing is delivered instantly!
- Your healing is delivered right now!
- You are rescued today! Thank you Jesus!
—PRAYERS—
- I see multitudes rescued from the dungeon of depression!
Can I tell you something? Jesus sat me down to tell me what I’m telling you now. Church Gist. I had never taught along this line in my life (maybe for exhortation).
- Something has happened in your life!
- Many have received their healing right now!
- Many (who are) about to be broken down and brought down and destroyed – they have escaped this morning!
I am not the doer. I’m only fronting for the Doer. Behind the scene is Jesus. He was working with them confirming the Word with signs following. Church Gist. All we do is to say what He says we should say. He is the One to confirm it. When He confirms it in your life, let Him know it. That leper returned.
Last Sunday, God blessed us with a new grandchild. Now my wife was in one of the Churches in Abuja and then there was this woman that was 26 years barren. She just came to Canaan to wait on the Lord. When she was leaving, I was privileged to see her. According to her, I prayed the simplest prayer in the World. Church Gist. ‘Go and return with your testimony.’ She got back to Abuja and became pregnant and brought the child to the office last Sunday.
- No matter how long you have been under that siege, it’s over today! Just get on key with Jesus.
I did something in 1982 from Matthew 11:6. A woman was barren then. She had been offended in God “God, look at me. What have I done?” Church Gist. It went off that day and she became pregnant.
- Today, as your joy breaks forth, your breakthrough comes forth!
—PRAISES—
Please know that the aftermath of depression is celebration. Church Gist. The end of depression is the beginning of celebration.
- It’s your time to celebrate!
- Everyone in this Service today that care to connect by faith to what God has spoken from His Word, your era of celebration is here!
- As you go with the fountain of joy in your inside, your healing is delivered!
- Your healing is perfected!
- Your miracle is established!
- Your breakthrough comes forth!
- Your barrenness is over in the name of Jesus!
- You will never lose your peace again!
- God will not stop fighting your battles in the name of Jesus!
Now, whatever God may have spoken to you, all you can do is to believe Him. And the proof of that faith is joy. 1 Peter 1:8. The moment you are not rejoicing, your faith is not in place. Genuine faith causes joy and rejoicing. Paul said on that ship when the ship was about to go down, “cheer up for I believe God.” Church Gist. Those who believe God are always cheering up. This Church was once under an open Heaven (open sky). At a time, He moved us forward to a batcher (grass), no iron sheet, no paved floor. When we prospered so much, now we had a batcher with iron sheets on top as the World Headquarters of this Church. But by reason of what we saw ahead, come and see us dancing. You will think they are mad people. The dust will be rising as our praise rises. So it’s a fulfillment of Scripture “let all things praise the Lord.” The dust was praising God with us. When you come out of the Service, everybody had grey hair because of the dust. But see where we are today. Genuine faith cheers people up. When you stop cheering up, you have stopped believing.
- The battle is over!
