- Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr on UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF OBEDIENCE OF FAITH 2 at June 2024 Week Of Spiritual Emphasis Day Two || LFC Canaanland || 6th June 2024.
We began yesterday looking at this line of teachings which will be taken all through the Midweek services for this month captioned UNDERSTANDING THE POWER OF OBEDIENCE OF FAITH. By way of introduction tonight, it is important that we are reminded that every adventure into a life of wonders begins with the force of obedience. Church Gist. John 2:5, 11. The beginning of miracles started with obedience. It means therefore that until obedience is in place wonders are not in view. Until we are ready to obey, we are not ready for our change.
In John 5, Jesus came across a man who had been seated around the pool of Bethesda. He had been there for 38 years. The instruction was to get into the pool when it was stirred and anyone who got into the pool first would be healed of whatever disease that they had. John 5:8. That is a commandment. This was a man that said “Nobody is there to help me, I can’t do anything. Church Gist. I am helpless in this condition.” Jesus said your situation will not change until you obey. “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” John 5:9. What is it that provoked his miracle? He took up his bed and walked. Not that he walked before taking up his bed. He had to take action. Take the bed and then walk. John 5:10-11.
You can’t take your miracle until you take obedience. It is obedience that brings us on the pathway for our change of story. James 1:25. According to scriptures therefore, while it is true that we are ordained for wonders, the reality of wonders is at the mercy of our obedience. The wonders that you and I will experience are at the mercy of our obedience. Church Gist. It is important for you and I to know that the obedience that works is the obedience of faith. That is not just taking action but taking action in faith. Hebrews 4:2. Our obedience requires the force of faith behind it for it to produce results. That is why it is the obedience of faith that works. Hebrews 11:6. Every action that pleases God is a faith backed action.
John 8:29. I obey His instructions but for the obedience to be pleasing to Him, it must be backed by the force of faith. It is the obedience of faith that works. Church Gist. The question therefore is What are some of the virtues in obedience of faith? We look at some of them tonight and I trust the Spirit of God to grant us understanding.
- Obedience is the gateway to a world of supernatural breakthroughs.
The Word of God makes it clear to us that every child of God is ordained by God to be a breakthrough entity. Zechariah 8:23. Every child of God is ordained to be a breakthrough entity. We discover from scriptures that even though this is the destiny of the redeemed, it does not become a reality for the redeemed until there is the obedience of the redeemed. Church Gist. It is the destiny of the redeemed to become a breakthrough entity, it never becomes a reality for the redeemed until there is the obedience of the redeemed. So it takes obedience to trigger that destiny of breakthrough in the believer.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2. That is breakthrough. For that breakthrough to become a reality, He said you must hearken diligently and do. That is obedience. Breakthrough is the destiny of the redeemed but obedience is the pathway. We must come to recognize that it takes our obedience to the commandments and the dictates of God to experience supernatural breakthroughs in life. Joshua 1:8. Church Gist. Good success is the product of obedience. Our obedience therefore is the secret pathway for us to secure access to supernatural breakthroughs. My prayer tonight is that via the Word of God we are receiving, the grace for obedience will come afresh on each one of our lives. There is obedience of faith that provokes change of level.
God’s servant has said it over time that when it comes to the subject of obedience that it speaks louder than voice. That means every action you take is speaking and like we were told just last week, God is not unrighteous to forget your labour. Church Gist. Your labour has a voice that God cannot ignore. Your obedience has a voice that God cannot ignore. Our engagement has a voice that God cannot ignore. Every commitment to obeying God secures the attention of God for our supernatural breakthroughs.
Many of us will remember the testimony of one of us, a Brother in this Church, Napoleon by name. How his business collapsed in Benin and he couldn’t feed himself so he had to return to Lagos to live with his mother. Everything was at a standstill. But he heard a word concerning kingdom advancement and he caught the Kingdom fire and began to obey. Church Gist. Going from place to place spreading Jesus. Simple obedience, spreading Jesus. Announcing Jesus everywhere. Before you know it, God dramatically changed his story and by the time he was sharing his testimony, he said he pays his tithe in six figures every week. Dramatic change of level on the basis of obedience. Obedience has a voice that God cannot ignore.
My prayer tonight is that particularly beginning from this season, the voice of our obedience will trigger breakthroughs in every department of our lives.
- Obedience is the trigger for all supernatural manifestations.
John 14:21. So, manifestations are simply a reaction to our obedience. Every manifestation is God’s response to man’s obedience. Church Gist. Every manifestation of the supernatural is God’s response to man’s obedience. You see, supernatural really refers to something that is superior to the natural, something that breaks natural protocols. But, I’ve discovered that it is those who obey spiritual protocols that are permitted to break natural protocols. Church Gist. The protocols of natural progression can only be subdued by commitment to divine protocols, that is following divine commandments. As we get committed to obeying God and following His instructions, we find the supernatural begin to manifest practically in our lives.
- and I see that becoming our experience from now in the name of Jesus Christ!
So, as we keep obeying, we keep finding the supernatural manifesting in every department of our lives. Church Gist. Now, quickly tonight, let’s take note of the fact that obedience may be costly but the end result of it is priceless. Hebrews 11:17-19. That is, as long as Abraham was concerned, he had gone all the way to the sacrificing of Isaac. Church Gist. God asked for him, Abraham will not keep him from God. He was ready to go the extra mile in his obedience to God. And what happened? We saw the cost of obedience so high but the result of obedience so great. By the time he came down from that mountain, God had spoken some dangerous words to him, “in blessing, I will bless you. In multiplying, I will multiply you”. Genesis 22:7. Church Gist. Those words are still speaking till today and they came on the basis of high cost obedience. Obedience may be costly but the end result of it is priceless.
- I see each one of us receiving grace to pay the cost of obedience in the name of Jesus. You believe it, say a loud Amen.
No one is entitled to the next instruction until he has obeyed the first as we saw in the example of Abraham and of Moses. Church Gist. God will give an instruction, you’ll obey that one before you’re entitled to the next one. Some people will wonder, ‘why am I not hearing God speak to me?’ because the one He has written, have you obeyed? The one that He has spoken to us in services, have we obeyed it? Until we obey the last, w are not qualified for the next. Church Gist. So, we must get committed to obeying whatever it is that God has spoken, the things that God has said to us, the things that God has shown to us from His Word in order to get the next instruction. Church Gist. It is the act of obedience that produces our change of level.
- I see each one of us receiving grace to maintain a life of active obedience in the name of Jesus Christ.
Now, but the obedience that works has certain vital characteristics and we are going to look at two of them tonight before we pray. Two characteristics of the obedience that works.
- It must be love-motivated obedience. The obedience that works must be love-motivated obedience. 1 Samuel 2:3. Church Gist. So, the actions we take, God will weigh them. Jeremiah 17:10. So, God will check our hearts and one of the things that He’s looking for in our hearts is whether we are motivated by love. What is the motivation for our obedience? It is love-motivated obedience that works. Church Gist. Romans 8:28. So, it is lovers of God that have their obedience working in this world. They get results. So, it’s not enough just to obey but our motivation for obedience must be love. This is so vital and critical. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. What is God saying? ‘All of those things are actions that I’m commanding, but for those actions to start delivering, they must come from the motivation of love’. Church Gist. Our heart for God is what determines the results of our acts for God. The actions we take produce according to the state of our heart for God.
God’s servant has said over the years that ‘you don’t know my secret until you know my heartbeat for God’. Our heart for God. This is why the subject of our love for God becomes a non-negotiable factor. Church Gist. Somebody will say, “why should I obey God? Why should I do all these things that God is requiring of us in this season?” The number one reason is your love for Him. And somebody will say, ‘why must I love God?’ You know why? He loved you first. Nobody loved God first. 1 John 4:19. We are first recipients of His love when we didn’t deserve it. Church Gist. The Bible says that when we were yet sinners, Christ died for us and in doing so, God commendeth His love towards us. So, everyone is a recipient of the love of God before we begin to bestow and lavish our love upon Him. This is so important. Church Gist. So, the motivation of love is a vital requirement to see our obedience work.
Now, take note of this, very important. We know that obedience works by faith because the Bible makes us to understand that whatever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14:23. Church Gist. So, obedience works by faith but faith works by love. Galatians 5:6. That means that obedience works by love. So, without love in place, our obedience will not procure the desired results and that is why our love for God must take centre stage. Our hearts must go after Him. Church Gist. That is the key to making the most in our work with God. It must go after Him. We must get completely lost in our love for God. We must get completely sold out in our love for God. That is the key to seeing the best in our walk with God.
So our love for God is a vital requirement in getting the best out of our walk with God. Matthew 22:37-40. Every other thing works or hangs on these two. If these two are not in place the others cannot hang, the others cannot stand. So it takes the love motivation to see our obedience produced effectively. The love motivation! That is one non-negotiable factor in making the most of our walk with God. Church Gist. I remember when we were being ordained into ministry and Dr Kenneth Copeland said something that I will never forget. He said: Never violate the Law of Faith and Love. You see? The anchor for any life that is springing wonders on the Earth is a heart for God. If you check it you will discover. Every highflyer in this Kingdom is a sold-out lover of God. 1 Corinthians 2:9. So our love must be the motivation for our obedience. That should be the principal motivation – the fact that we love Him.
- The obedience that works is full obedience, not partial obedience.
Genesis 13:14-18. Please hear this, every commandment of God must be obeyed to the full. It must be obeyed to the full! Church Gist. Complete obedience is a vital requirement to making the most in our walk with God. Shout hallelujah!
-I see God granting each one of us the grace to begin to obey Him completely in the name of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6. So we must complete our obedience. Partial obedience is not acceptable with God. We must complete our obedience, we must obey Him to the full!! That is why we cannot negotiate any instruction from God. And one of the things you will find the devil trying to do all the time is to cause us to negotiate our commitment. When Israel was to come out of Egypt, Pharaoh said: “All the men can go but the women and all the cattle must stay behind.” That is obey but don’t finish obeying. Church Gist. Moses said: “No way! We must all go together.” Then later, Pharaoh called them back again, he said: “Everybody can go but leave your cattle behind.” They said: “No! God has commanded us to go completely because we don’t know what it is that He will require of us when we get there. He kept trying to negotiate their commitment. You see? satan will not mind if you obey partially because he knows that partial obedience cannot deliver. It is total obedience that delivers. In fact, there is an instruction of Scriptures that is very striking in James 2:10. So we have the responsibility of keeping all His instructions.
Everything that God commands us to do, we must do all. Never negotiate your commitment with God. Church Gist. That is what hinders each one from enjoying the best in their walk with God.
-My prayer tonight is that grace will come upon each one of our lives to maintain complete and total obedience in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
That means no matter what the condition is; no matter what the situation is, we must obey Him to the fullest. Don’t bother about what the conditions around your life may seem like. Look at the testimony that we heard, that brother said that the condition around his life was basically life-threatening, no job (for) 13 months! A family man with children to feed, with school fees to pay, children could not go to school – everything looked upside down but this man amplified his engagement. He increased his commitment because his situation was not going to be permitted to negotiate his commitment. Church Gist. And as he kept pressing and pursuing, he said he got called from a company he did not apply to. And when he got there instead of an interview it was a chat. And at the end of the chat, the statements that were made is the statement that Pharaoh made to Joseph the exact same thing. He said: “Look! An organization like this that is just beginning, we need somebody like you to be in charge of it. Therefore from now, you become totally responsible for everything in this company, from staffing to decision-making. Only in position will I be greater than you.” That’s Scripture! Direct Scripture! Just direct Scripture, why? Church Gist. Obeying to the full! He could have said: “With everything going on around me let me try and run around. God will understand. Let me try and do other things, God understands.” He said: “I see all the things going on around me but this God, I will obey His instruction. If He has said: “This is the key for the hour,” I will do what He says.
Now listen to this, it will help us! Obedience many times to God’s instruction may not seem like it is what it will take to turn around your situation but I have discovered that no key resembles a door but it will take a key to open a door. You can’t see a key and say: “This key resembles this door.” Key doesn’t look like doors but keys open doors. Obedience is the key, it may not look like the door you are trying to open but it is what will open the door.
-So obey Him to the full and you will find the doors of life opening on your behalf. I see grace coming upon each one of us for this! In the name of Jesus Christ!
