It is said that some stories are universal and relatable to everyone. Imbedded in those stories are the experiences; hurts, laughter, happiness, peace, solace and freedom of these people. This means anyone anywhere in the world could read a book and find themselves played out within the pages of the book.
Books offer us an opportunity to be, become and heal. Books beyond inspiration have become sources of inventions. This power within pages to exalt and instigate change definitely affects the mind and so one must be careful what books tend to their mind and health.
A popular saying, that one can only grow to the extent of information within their disposal is quite true and while many have lived in bondage, others have found answers within pages of a book, maybe just a single page of that book.
What you hear, see and read is vital to how your mind is shaped and how you respond to life, people, relationships and situations. Just as reading is powerful, it could have positive or negative effects.
Reading is a developmental act, If you read the wrong things, you develop the soul wrongly. Your
mental health, spiritual health and body could suffer from this cause.
The Bible, the greatest book with the power to heal and transform also talks about reading.
“Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine”. 1 Timothy 4:13.
All round growth is a necessity and that is why the Bible encourages us to give attention to reading. Beyond Scriptures and our spiritual life, it is important to develop other areas of our lives. God wants to see us succeed and become industry leaders and a faster way to understand a path is by reading the experiences of people who have walked same path earlier.
God’s thoughts for us have always been good but we have a part to play in guarding our mind.
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”.
Proverbs 4:23.
Because the information contained in any book has the ability to plant seeds in our minds, determine to select what you read and what you let linger in your mind. The mind is a battle field like Joyce Meyer rightly calls it.
Our minds sure connects to our mental health and an ill mental health can begin to tell on our bodies but with the right information, we stay healthy, powerful and refreshed.
Reading gives us the privilege of living outside our view to having a broader view. Seeing life from another perspective could just be the healing you need. Reading brings hope and revitalizes.
Let this be with you, from the pages of a book ‘Mind Connection: How the Thoughts You Choose Affects Your Mood, Behaviour and Decisions’ by Joyce Meyer
“If you decide to view things that are considered problems in a positive way, I can assure you that someone would promptly tell you that you aren’t being realistic but the good thing about faith is that it keeps you joyful and energized while you are trusting God to change the current reality”
Remember, you live out what you read. Many world leaders unlocked leadership secrets through the contents they read. If you don’t have a reading culture, not to worry, you can start now.
Stay well by reading healthy contents. You can avert a lot of mistakes through one appropriate content.
