‘When life throws lemons at you, make lemonades out of it’. This adage seems cliche but on deeper thoughts, you realize you can actually rise to greatness regardless of whatever you are facing or have faced.
Funto Ibuoye is a Chartered Accountant, Marketing professional and founder of the Beautified Network, an initiative that helps women discover their God given purpose. She is also the founder of the five28 interior design, an interior and design outfit. She is the convener of the Becoming Conference, a yearly conference for women between the ages of 18 to 35 with the sole purpose of raising women who aspire to live up to their full potential thereby contributing to the transformation of their society. In 2017, Funto was listed among the Leading Ladies Africa 100 Most Influential Women in Nigeria.
She is married to Akinade Ibuoye and they are blessed with two sons.
On lots of interviews, Funto stresses the need to find yourself in your 20s, to live beyond validations and be true to oneself. Most of Funto’s accomplishments and establishments have been in her 20s, publishing of four books, founding the Becoming conference and the Beautified Network. Funto recounted all her ups and lows during her 30th birthday and admonishes young people to be intentional about life. She is an example that age is no barrier to fulfilling purpose and creating relevance.
Her after story totally fades to behind the story of her birth out of wedlock. Funto tells the story of how her mother tried to abort her thrice. Her father and mother later married different persons years after her birth. She shares the hurt and grudge she held against her father for not marrying her mother and how no one could fully claim her. Funto talks about letting go of hurts and embracing our story,
‘For most part of my childhood, I was bitter and angry with my dad for not marrying my mum. It was until I accepted this part of my story and let go of the bitterness that I became stronger and closer to God. I used to tell myself God wanted me to be fully His, so He put me in between two families so no one could fully claim me. But what’s your story? Embrace it. Your story is really not about you but about the lives that will be liberated when they hear your story and how you triumphed’.
You can become what you want as long as you see it.

Asides the story revolving around Funto’s birth, like every other human, funto has had to overcome other challenges in the journey of becoming. You too can.
