‘He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint’ Isaiah 40:29-31.

Walking is the regular movement of the body; it is an excellent form of exercise for people of all ages and abilities. Just a few extra steps each day is an easy and simple way to take an active role in maintaining a significantly healthier life.

Walking is a form of exercise that can increase your physical and mental health significantly. Physically, walking helps to stay fit, improves cardiac health, alleviates depression and fatigue, improves mood, creates less stress on joints and reduces pain, prevent weight gain, reduce risk for cancer and chronic diseases, improve endurance, improve posture, and so on. Mentally, walking creates an avenue for creative thinking and improves mood among many others, psychologists says that a 10-minute walk may be just as good as a 45-minute workout when it comes to relieving the symptoms of anxiety.

As easy as walking can be, it’s benefits are undeniable, it can even be made more fun by either listening to music to boost your moral or walking-out with a friend or family. Some walkers focus more on distance while some focus more on target time but ultimately, it is about speed. A 20-minutes’ walk done in 40-minutes wouldn’t be as effective as it would be if the set time was met. Set a baseline now. Start walking 3-times in a week for 20 minutes and walk your way up till it becomes a habit.

Health is wealth. Start being intentional with your health, a simple walk-out today will go a long way to enhancing a healthier life.
