IF YOU FAINT IN THE DAY OF ADVERSITY, IT IS NOT BECAUSE THE BATTLE IS BIG, IT IS NOT BECAUSE THE DEVIL IS WICKED BUT IT IS BECAUSE YOUR STRENGTH IS SMALL.

• Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr at Midweek/ Communion Service|| Faith Tabernacle Canaanland, Ota. Lord Jesus, we thank you this evening for the privilege you have given us to be in your presence again. Thank you because every time we call on you, you hear us and answer all our prayers. Lord tonight our eyes are on you again, we are here for an encounter with you, we ask that you speak to us and let your word transform our lives. Thank you Mighty God for in Jesus precious name we have prayed.

Our line of teaching in our midweek services all through this month is UNDERSTANDING THE PERSON AND MINISTRY OF THE HOLY Spirit. God’s word makes it clear to us that the Holy Spirit is the ultimate advantage of the redeemed in our journey on the earth. John 16:7. Jesus was telling the disciples that it was to their advantage that He departed, in other words, the arrival of the Holy Ghost is to the ultimate advantage of the redeemed. This is why scripture describes Him as the gift. Acts 2:38. He is the gift that carries gifts. He is the ultimate deliverable of heaven to the life of anyone. This is why the word of God tells us that you and I have a requirement to have our eyes opened to see the hope of our calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in us. Ephesians 1:18-20. For everyone that is a child of God everything that you can imagine is packaged as it were inside the personality of the Holy Spirit deposited in you and me. 1 Corinthians 6:19. Church Gist. Every one of us that is baptized in the Holy Ghost, carries inside every one of us a treasure loaded inside of us and that treasure is the person of the Holy Ghost. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7. Everyone that is a child of God baptized in the Holy Ghost is the container of a personality and that is the Holy Ghost. That personality is our ultimate advantage. Inside of this personality called the Holy Ghost is everything you and I can require for the journey of life. Without Him, you are limited in the journey of life. Without Him, you are restricted and defeated in the journey of life. Today I pray that via the unveiling of the word, each one of us will begin to work in the fullness of the person of the Holy Spirit.

Why is it so important that you and I must explore who the Holy Spirit is and His ministry towards you and me? 1 Corinthians 12:4-6. Inside of this singular personality are varied, different diversities made available to us. He has different functions. You and I cannot just come to the point of “I have the Holy Ghost”, we must know the various functions. That is available within Him, in order to take advantage of who is. Church Gist. If you and I cannot explore who He is and the various functions of His person then you and I will become limited in the journey of life. It is possible to have a thing and not know what it carries. Many of us have been baptized in the Holy Ghost but we need to know what He carries. What is it that offers to you and me? What advantage does He bring to you and to me? I pray that nothing, the Spirit of God will grant us light in the name of Jesus.

Who is the Holy Spirit and what is His assignment? That is what we will be looking at in all of our midweek services all through this month.

1. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of faith that empowers believers for exploits.

Hebrews 11:1.
For anyone’s Christianity to be evidential, for anyone to have proof on the journey of life, faith is a necessity. Without faith, an individual’s journey in Christ is reduced to mockery. Hebrews 11:1. Anywhere you see good reports, good results, and good outcomes, it is the product of faith. You cannot separate the force of faith from good reports. If that is the case then you and I require exploits on our adventure on the earth, and then faith remains a necessity. Behind any exploit of any believer is the force of faith. Hebrews 11:33-34. All of these exploits were the product of faith. Hebrews 11:39-40. From the word of God, it is clear to us that everyone that had a good report received it by faith and if you and I are going to get the promise, we will also get it by faith. Hebrews 6:12. Every provision of the kingdom of God is secured on the platform of faith. That is why faith becomes a vital necessity. To facilitate our faith, the Holy Ghost operates as the Spirit of faith. 2 Corinthians 4:13. There is what the Bible refers to as the Spirit of faith. The Spirit of faith is the force that facilitates you and me to operate in an unshakeable dimension of faith. James 1:6-8. Faith that works is faith that does not waver and faith that does not waver is facilitated by the personality of the Holy Ghost. Church Gist. Remember the story of Peter, Jesus was walking on the water and Peter said Lord if it is you bid me come and Jesus said come. Peter stepped out of the boat and began to walk on the water, he suddenly began to look at the wind and he began to sink. Jesus snatched him out of the water and said “oh ye of little faith, why did you fear?”. Faith was present but it began to waver in the storm. Many people are hearing me today that faith is there but when the storm starts, it begins to waver. There is a force in the Spirit called the Spirit of faith that enhances our stability in the storms. Where things seem to be going contrary but that faith remains steadfast. Someone here tonight, that Spirit is coming upon your life.

Why does it operate this way? This Spirit of faith makes you see the invisible. Hebrews 11:27. Faith makes you see the invisible, faith makes you think the unthinkable. You are comparing Spiritual things with Spiritual, not comparing spiritual things with physical. 1 Corinthians 2:13, 4:18. Church Gist. God expects us to be seeing the invisible and it is the Spirit of faith that opens our eyes to it. When you see the invisible you begin to dare the ‘undareable’. You are not intimidated by situations and circumstances. What shakes others provokes laughter in you. Psalm 2:4. Why? Because He is seeing from a heavenly perspective via the Spirit of faith.

Numbers 13:30. That’s the Spirit of faith, it dares the ‘undareable’. Where others saw themselves as grasshoppers before giants these ones saw themselves as well able. Numbers 14:24. This is God’s testimony of Caleb. What made him say “let’s go up at once and possess it because we are well able” was not a physical thing but a Spiritual thing. He had another Spirit inside of him. It makes you dare the ‘undareable’ and as a result of that, it makes you deliver the impossible. The Spirit of faith makes you see the invisible, think the unthinkable, dare the ‘undareable’ and deliver the impossible. Mark 10:27, 9:23. This Spirit of faith catapults you to the realm of God, a place where you don’t know any impossibilities. Church Gist. There is nothing that is impossible where faith is available. Faith terminates the impossibilities and the Spirit of faith facilitates your capacity to believe in all situations. It gives you the capacity to believe all things. Where this Spirit is not available, faith will be compromised. Mark 9:24. It is the Spirit of faith that gives you strength in that area that is trying to shake. When the Spirit of faith comes upon you, you believe without compromise, without any kind of reservation. All of you is invested in all of God. You find out that you are consistent and stable in the journey of faith. That is the operation of the Spirit of faith.

One of the vital evidence of the Spirit of faith at work in a person’s life is a change of language. When the Spirit of faith comes upon you, it affects your language. It is your sound that determines your signs. It affects how you speak and what you say. Some things can no longer be accommodated in your speech by virtue of the Spirit of faith. The Spirit of faith does not allow a language of defeat, it does not allow a language of helplessness. It speaks boldly in every situation. It speaks confrontationally before opposition. You can’t have this Spirit and surrender to defeat in your speech, you can’t have this Spirit and surrender to failure in your speech. Church Gist. You can’t have this Spirit and surrender to sickness in your speech. The Spirit of faith affects your language. He said open your mouth wide and I will fill it. What is it that will fill your mouth? The Spirit of faith. In our adventure on the earth, our speech is very vital. Mark 11:23. The Spirit of faith demonstrates what is in the mouth by what it is saying, when it comes alive in you, you can’t speak lack, you can’t speak failure, you can’t speak defeat. Your language is abundance, health, vitality and success. I see that Spirit of faith coming afresh upon somebody here.

2. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of servanthood.

Isaiah 42:1-3. The Spirit of servanthood is our vital helper in our stewardship adventure. It takes the Holy Spirit to be able to will and do all that God demands. We need the Spirit for profitable stewardship. Philippians 2:13. Until you have His assistance, you cannot accomplish all that God demands of you. Zechariah 4:6. He is the one that makes servants out of sons. We are empowered as servants of God. Church Gist. It takes the empowerment of the Spirit upon the life of an individual for that person to become a servant in the house of the Lord. Serving God requires empowerment and that empowerment comes via the Holy Spirit. Every demand of profitable stewardship demands the empowerment of God.

Deuteronomy 28:47-48. Everything is upside down because joy was not present but the Holy Ghost is the Spirit of joy that enables us to serve Him joyfully and tirelessly, where you are never weary of doing what He says to do. Mark 1:12. It keeps you driving in serving God. Romans 12:11. He is the one who enables us to be zealous in our stewardship. In other words, everything that makes your stewardship acceptable before God must come from the Holy Ghost. Church Gist. That is why we must continue to demand for the equipment of the Spirit of God. It is what keeps you going at every point in time. Without Him, you can start but without Him, you cannot stay. To stay serving takes the Spirit of God. Many start but not too many stay. It is only those who endure in stewardship that rise in leadership. For anyone to enjoy the best of your stewardship in the kingdom, you require the facilitation of the Holy Ghost. Philippians 2:5-11. Exaltation came after subjection. But it will take the facilitation of the Holy Ghost to bring you and me to a place where we serve God joyfully, tirelessly and acceptably. That is why you and I must continue to demand the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

• You will not be weary serving God. You will not be tired of serving God.
• Your zeal will never go down.

1. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of guidance.

He guides us and directs our path. Romans. The Holy Spirit is our dependable guide in the journey of life. Life is a wildlife park. 1 John 5:19. There is wickedness everywhere. Psalm 74:20. The streets that you walk on, the neighbourhood that you dwell in, the road that you drive on, there is wickedness everywhere. What guarantees our safe passage in the journey of life in this wicked world is the Spirit of God. Proverbs 14:12, 16:25. According to God, our intellect, and our logic is insufficient to direct our steps. If you have been to any wildlife park, you will discover that one of the necessities is a guide. The guide in the wildlife park is the secret to safety because a place is quiet does not mean there are no wild animals there. Most animals on attack practice what you call stealth. That is, they move without noise. The quieter, the more dangerous. If you go under a tree and say this place looks quiet, let me rest here. Church Gist. There may be a leopard in the tree. You don’t know what is hanging around. It is the guide that tells you where is safe to go and what is safe to do. The guide is the secret to safety in a wildlife park. In the wildlife park of life, the Holy Spirit is the secret to safety. He is the one that shows you what to do, and where to go in order not to become a victim in the adventure of life. In the most desperate circumstances, He knows the way. Deuteronomy 32:9-14. All of this inside the wilderness because he was led by the Spirit. When you are led by the Spirit, your life is an oasis amid the desert. Everybody is suffering dehydration but you are enjoying abundance because the Spirit of God is the one leading you. Isaiah 48:21. I don’t know if you know anything about rocks, one thing about rocks is that rocks actually lack any other content. You can’t look at a rock and squeeze it to produce anything. When God is the one leading you, even the hardest of things answer on your behalf. The rock becomes like a sponge soaked in water that you squeeze and the water gushes out. Even what the rock did not have it produced. When God leads you, your allocation is in His direction. You can’t miss your portion when He is the one directing you. Don’t move according to the wind of situations, move according to the wind of directions. When God is leading you, you are always going to find yourself in an advantage in the midst of a terrible world. The secret to your security and allocation is His direction. If the Spirit of God is given room to guide you and direct you, you can never be disadvantaged in the journey of life.

Look at what God is doing today in Canaanland, we have the Ark growing in the midst of a depressed, concerning economy. There is nothing concerning because He said “this is the place”. That is why the direction of God is the secret to making the most out of the adventure of life. You and I need guidance. There is no way that the cow coming from Sokoto will make it to Lagos on its own. It will always need a guide. Church Gist. No matter how experienced you are in the journey of life, you will always need a guide. Proverbs 3:5-6. I know you went to school but it is not enough to lead you. I know you are highly educated but it is not enough to direct your steps. I know you carry degrees and letters after your name, but your intellect is insufficient to lead the way. It is important for you and me to understand that we need His guidance.

4. The Holy Spirit strengthens our inner man.

Ephesians 3:16. Every defeat in life is traceable to a lack of strength. Proverbs 24:10. If you faint in the day of adversity, it is not because the battle is big, it is not because the devil is wicked but it is because your strength is small. The reason for the defeat is not the battle but it is the insufficiency of your own strength. It is the Spirit of God that strengthens us in the inner man. He strengthens us from within, He causes us to operate in Heaven’s dimension of inner fortitude and strength. It is the strength of our Spirit man that determines our command on the earth. When your Spirit man is loaded with strength, you are able to rise up and subdue whatever it is that is opposing you. That is why I love what that song says, “let my Spirit arise and let strength be renewed”. There is a need for us to understand that our command is from within. We look at two examples from scriptures, the first example is John the Baptist. Luke 1:80. Church Gist. Wax is liquid but when it gains stability is when it becomes strengthened. Until it strengthens, it is liquid, it just flows in any direction. It has to be gathered together and strengthened. Today you have sculptures around the world that are made of wax. There are some of those structures that have been there for a lot of years. There is a place in England where you have structures of wax everywhere. Some of them have been there for over thirty years still standing, why? They have been waxed strong. So they are presentable to be shown. Luke 1:80. Our inner strength determines our outer command.

The second example is the example of Jesus, the same words were used concerning him. Luke 2:40. Everything you saw through John and Jesus was what had happened inside them. When you are strengthened from within, dominion becomes cheap and it is the Spirit of God that strengthens us from the inner man.

From all of this that we have seen tonight you and I must have a desperate desire for the Holy Ghost. Why is that so? Without a desperate desire, you and I cannot acquire His ministry in our lives. John 7:37-39. The only one who can come is the one who is thirsty. You and I must ensure that we have a desperate thirst. Church Gist. Do you desire the Spirit of guidance, do you desire the Spirit of servanthood, do you desire the Spirit of faith, do you desire the Spirit’s strength in your inner man? Lift your hand and say Holy Ghost I desire you.

• Every one of the functions of the Holy Ghost will be made manifest in every one of our lives.
• Your life will become an open testimony.
