God, before he could make Jacob to become Isreal, He touched his hamstring muscle, He paralyzed the muscle, He broke his thigh. You know this muscle (hamstring) is the strongest muscle of a man’s body, that is why a man is standing up and not walking like a cow or a dog. Church Gist. This (hamstring) muscle, with other muscles of erectness makes us stand straight – God broke that muscle. He said, “now that I have broken your strength, let me give you power, now that I have stripped you of what you can’t boast of, let me give you genuine power”. Genesis 32:25-28.

If you want to connect His power, you must surrender your strength. You want to connect the power from God, you must surrender your strength. What is it that you think you have? Church Gist. What is it that you want to boast about? What is it that is your advantage over others? Surrender them. “Lord, I got them from you in the first place, I give them back to you”. You know, it is only what you surrendered to God that can be useful to you. Church Gist. Do you know that 5 loaves and 2 fishes were in the hands of the people and it was useless until it was given to the Master. John 6:9-12.

In the hands of man, it has limited purpose, in the hands of God, it is limitless in extent. Do you know the rod in the hand of Moses was useless for 40 years until he surrendered it to God. Church Gist. A rod that could deliver a nation was in his hands tending flock. As long as that rod was in the hands of Moses, the only thing the rod can do was to drive cow. But the moment that rod was released to God, it’ll part a red sea, the moment that rod was surrendered to God, it’ll perish Pharoah, the moment was surrendered to God, it’ll bring water out of the rock. Church Gist. Whatever is in your hands is limited in use but when it is surrendered to God, it’s limitless in extent.

Whatever you can boast of has no future if it is with you. There are many of us who can be better and bigger than what we are but we’re too concerned about what we can do, how qualified we are. Church Gist. Most times, our qualification becomes our disqualification with God and our disqualification with men now becomes our qualification with God.

It was in the year that King Uzziah died that Isaiah saw the Lord. Church Gist. Something needs to die, flesh, self, something just needs to go, if you want to see God the way you haven’t seen him before. Somebody say a loud Amen.

When we talk about death to self, three things it involves are;

  1. It is the surrender of self, pride, strength to God, to the death. Surrender ourselves, pride, arrogance, boastfulness, even whatever you think you have, “I give to you, I lay them down”.
  2. It is the redirection of glory, permanently to God. When people want to praise, you give the praise to who it belongs. Church Gist. When they want to over celebrate you, you direct that celebration to God. When Jesus was going to Jerusalem before the Passover, what did he ride on? A donkey. When he rode on that donkey, what did the people spread on the ground? They spread their clothes and palm fronds. For whom did they spread it? For Jesus. But who was marching on the cloth? Church Gist. It was spread for Jesus, but it was been tread upon by the donkey and the people were shouting,”Hosanna, Hosanna”, who were they shouting for? Can I ask you a question? Is it reasonable for the donkey to think that he was receiving a standing ovation, is it reasonable for the donkey to think that they spread the cloth for him since he was the one marching on it? That is our major problem. Church Gist. We mistook the applause for ourselves. Most times, we thought it was us, not knowing that it is who we are carrying. We’re a carrying a presence, we’re carrying a Master, He’s trying to move on us, to work on us, to ride on us and then fulfill His purpose, and then they spread the cloth on the ground and we thought it was for us, and then, they were screaming and we thought it was for us. Church Gist. He said, “without me, you can do nothing”, that is, “the highest you can do without me is called nothing”. Hallelujah.

So, we must master the act of redirecting the glory to the one to whom it belongs. Church Gist. When people come to your church and they say, “I went to that Church, I wasn’t healed, I went to this Church, I wasn’t healed until I came to this Pastor and he prayed a powerful prayer and I was healed”, don’t raise your shoulder o, Because, the only reason the person was healed in that place is not you, it’s not your fasting, it’s not your prayer, it’s just a divine mystery of election. Am I communicating?

Do you remember the man that was at the beautiful gate for 40 years. Church Gist. That beautiful big temple, you remember Jesus passed through that temple and went into that temple and pointed at that temple, right? And said, “this big temple you see, I’ll break it down, in 3 days, I will build it”. That same temple, Jesus passed by and left the man and didn’t heal him. Church Gist. Who healed the man? Peter. So, can we conclude that Peter was more powerful than Jesus? Peter should be “more powerful”, because Jesus passed there, saw the man, He didn’t heal him, then Peter healed him. Who trained Peter? Do you know why? Peter was the one who he healed him because there’s something we call divine mystery of election. When Jesus was passing, Jesus may have seen the man and He must communicated with His father, “Sir, what are you saying about this case?” And the father must have replied, “not now, not you”. Church Gist. That is, “this miracle is timed and it’s going to happen and it’s not you that I will use”.

Do you know that there are miracles that took place in our home cells, that didn’t take place in the main church. Church Gist. The home cell leader prayed, the house fellowship members and the person was healed of 10 years of amenorrhea and they’ve been coming to the main Church. Even there are miracles that took place in our branch churches. Can we conclude that the house cell was more anointed? You know some people make such a mistake. The home cell leader became proud and branch Pastor became arrogant, especially if the person testified, “I went even to the headquarters, I was not healed, until I came to the branch”. Church Gist. It’s a total misunderstanding. Romans 9:16. Atimes, he does things like that so that everybody can be humble. Genera oversee, humble, all of you, just calm down.

Somebody said, somebody died and she took the daily devotional, ‘our seeds of destiny’ and opened the page where that has a miracle and laid it on the person and the person got back to life. So, 3 people are involved here now in the miracle – the person who wrote ‘the seed of destiny’, the person who laid it and the book itself. Who will take the glory now? (Laughs). Church Gist. If the person who laid it says, “I’m so powerful, God used me to raise the dead”, the question, “did you write the book?” If the book says “I’m so powerful, I just raised somebody”, the question is, “did you write yourself and did you lay yourself on the person?” Look at your neighbour and say, “calm down”.

  1. Maintain the deep climate of reverence, respect and worship. when the person is not struggling to take the glory, there’s such a deep atmosphere of reverence, respect for God, a deep atmosphere of worship that makes God to know. 2 Chronicles 5:13-14.
