5th June 2022: Terrorists attack Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state during Sunday Mass, killing an estimated number of 70 worshippers and leaving many others injured.
5th June 1661: English mathematician and physicist Isaac Newton is admitted as a student to Trinity College, Cambridge. But the “greatest scientific genius the world has ever known” actually spent more time studying theology and the Bible than science, writing 1.3 million words on biblical subjects. He was a devout Christian and saw his scientific work as a way to understand God’s creation.
5th June 988: Grand Prince Vladimir of Kiev (in modern day Russia) orders his people to be baptized into the Orthodox Christian faith. Considered the ‘Apostle to the Russians’, Vladimir was the first Christian Ruler of the nation and personally oversaw the baptism of the majority of the population of Kiev, the capital of his reign.
