The other day I told my driver let’s go so I can eat breakfast. The time was 5 p.m. Breakfast at 5 pm. That is you didn’t plan to fast, one day my wife asked me “have you eaten?”. I said I think so because I didn’t feel hungry. Jesus said my meat is to do the will of Him that sent me. I said I thought I had eaten. The driver said I am not sure, the food bag is still here. Spiritual discipline. Anyone who cannot control his time cannot control your future. If you cannot control yourself you cannot control your future. They had to meet God at the hour of prayer, and at that hour of prayer, something happened. Your appointment with God is the determinant of your fulfilment in life. Church Gist. Your appointment with God is the determinant of your fulfilment of destiny. I am trusting the Lord that somebody’s prayer life will jack up in this conference. Somebody’s study of the word will jack up in this meeting, somebody’s fasting life will jack up in this meeting. Church Gist. Don’t let your phone ruin your life, don’t let social media ruin your destiny. Don’t let chatting cheat your destiny. Chat! chat! chat until you cheat yourself out of destiny. Use the phone, don’t let the phone use you. Own the phone, don’t let the phone own you. There is a time to put it offline, there is a time to put it on “do not disturb” and there is a time to put it completely on flight mode. One day my phone was ringing and Deborah was with me. I looked at it and picked the call without reply and dropped it. She laughed and said what was that? I said I was not obligated to answer the call and the ringing would not stop so I had to do that. Someone said I have been calling you and you didn’t answer, Yes! I didn’t answer. There is no law that I must answer the phone. When the phone ringeth thou must answer, is it written anywhere? If I see a missed call, if I am ready to call I can call later. Different people send me messages or call me that somebody is sick or one problem or the other. Sometimes I carry the phone and pray that everybody who calls me that someone is sick, Father heal them in advance. If you don’t make sense on time, you won’t make sense at all. Don’t think you are too young to make sense or too young to impact your generation. Don’t let your time pass, you are in the prime of your life. You use prime time to make good news. We do a lot of television adverts for programmes and there is a time they call prime time. Around network news and so on, you pay more. You can pay ten times more if you are advertising around prime time. If it is around 2 am or 4 am when nobody is watching, you can pay one-tenth. You make major impact with prime time. Church Gist. When you are young they call it the prime of your life. That is the impact phase of your life. That is when you lay down structures for the future. Spiritual structures for your future. So maintain that spiritual discipline. As we are here now when they say pray, pray. When they say worship, worship. As I was coming here now, I saw some people strolling on the road. I don’t know if they came here.
- Maintain value for His presence.
Every time you come into His house, value it. Arrive with reverence. Nobody goes to the presence of the president of our country with chewing gum. They will just look for a psychiatrist for you from the gate. What people can’t do before an earthly king, they do for the King of Kings. You don’t see two people gisting with each other when they are facing a panel or in an interview but you can see that happen in Church. Have value for the presence. Bishop Oyedepo said he received an impartation that changed his life in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was seated in the gallery as Kenneth Hagin ministered. He said till tomorrow he didn’t know who sat by his left hand or his right hand. He said he doesn’t even know the name of the Hotel He slept in because he went there with a passion. Something must drop and he was sitting in the gallery, as he was right there he observed the face of the man of God changed, he began to weep profusely like a baby then the voice came and said: “the mantle has dropped on you”. Church Gist. He left that meeting and the whole world can see the mantle of the word of faith dropped on Him. He can do anything without batting an eyelid. He can build anything without batting an eyelid. Construction is going on now on the Faith Theatre, the roof is millions of dollars yet effortless. It is more than 100,000.
The basement alone can take up to 20,000 apart from the main centre. Somebody brought an offering of $100,000 and he said the whole money for the project is ready except if you want us to apply it to another thing. He even announced in a meeting, as for this building everything is available. Now you can sow towards planting rural churches. When was the last time you heard such a thing? The mantle of word of faith dropped on him as he sat there with value for God’s presence. Church Gist. Don’t waste your life. Any friends you want to make you can make later. Anything that is of interest to you can interest you later but while you are here maintain that sense of value for the House of God. You don’t have a spare life. There are spare tyres but no spare life. Life is not a rehearsal for another life. We are in the reality now, don’t behave as if you are rehearsing.
One day we were practising with the instrument in my office, particularly the saxophonist and the whole room was saturated with the presence of God. Powerful, just practising. I said Lord what is happening here, we are just practising. He said to me, I don’t know rehearsal. You just created the climate of worship and I just appeared. It changed my mentality that anything I am doing, I do it with a sense of finality. In those days I used to write in my notebook “preach like it is the last” until my wife said don’t write that again. Have it in your mind but don’t put it down. Do you know what made me become the National President of Christian Medical and Dental Students? I was a University President first and we went to Lagos for a conference of medical students. I was the president of my school. They were giving all the presidents assignments, for me, it was to lead a 5-minute prayer. Church Gist. That five-minute prayer they cannot recover from it for life. Within the first minute, the bomb dropped. One that came from Baltimore the other day, told me that the fire I dropped on them thirty-something years ago, they haven’t recovered. In those days, the medical students had 19 hours of EXCO meeting, with people from different states and they will be arguing about many things. What will be the theme of this conference, this one will bring suggestions, and another one will bring suggestions. They were using their medical mind to bring solutions. When I became president after I had attended all those meetings and was angry already. When I became President I said we will do the same 19 hours but we will use one hour for deliberation and the remaining 18 hours for spiritual work. It is you people who want 19 hours. It was rugged. The man reminded me. One day I put a bottle of oil in the middle and we were praying on top of it for hours after praying we released it upon people as fire. He was the one reminding me. Maybe we will do it in this conference. I am sure in the realm of the spirit, that oil was already boiling. Everybody was imparted. I handed over to someone from the University of Lagos. He came to meet me and said what I left was so massive, what can he do? When he handed over to the next person, that one travelled all the way from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and came. I prayed for him. He handed over to someone from the University of Ibadan, that one is a plastic surgeon now. He too travelled all the way and said “I am the next president, I have heard of what God did and I can’t go like that. Church Gist. He said I uttered one word FIRE! He left with the fire. He is practising medicine with fire, ministering with fire. See the number of medical students that came even though ASUU is on strike. They all left where they were. It was that fire of thirty-something years ago that was burning. The same fire will catch you, do these three things that we have said. Life will be more enjoyable for you. All the other people who are moving around doing one thing or the other with a boy or a girl, the time will come when they will look at you and wish that they disciplined themselves like you, they will wish that they pursued God as you did. Don’t envy anybody who is not on the path of righteousness, their joy is not long-lasting.
Let me say this to you before we go, many people were under the tutelage of Elijah, the sons of the prophet, he taught them, he instructed them. He was their father. But only one person carried what he carried. Elisha. When Elisha was following Elisha, at Bethel they discouraged him. At Gilgal, they discouraged him, at Jericho, they discouraged him. Do you know the challenge Elisha had? Elisha followed Elijah through a dry river that the mantle had parted. After they crossed over the water had returned. If his master left him and nothing dropped, how does he go back? Church Gist. Even if the water was open and he went back the same way he left when the sons of the prophets were trying to discourage him, what would he explain? That was why he said I must see you when you are taken. You don’t have any explanation for the people who may mock me that I have followed, what did I gain? Many people in your family and friends are watching to see what will be the outcome of your going to Church and conference. The mantle dropped, he parted the water and went back. Church Gist. He didn’t explain to anybody, the same sons of the prophets saw him and said the spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha. When you have it you don’t need to explain it to people. It is when you don’t have it that you try to convince people. When you have it, it is they themselves that will confirm that there is something you carry.
