– Dr. Pastor Paul Enenche on BURNING AND SHINING FOR GOD at South Africa Healing and Deliverance Crusade || Johannesburg, South Africa || Day 2, Evening Session || 20th October 2023 ||
I’m excited because I know God is set for something great and massive in the lives of people and families, in churches and congregations. Communities would never remain the same. John 5:35. Tonight, quickly on the subject, “BURNING AND SHINING FOR GOD”. Our objective tonight is to understand our assignment as both fire and light for God. Can someone say a loud Amen? I am sure that we all know by way of introduction that God is fire. Deuteronomy 24:4. Church Gist. 1st John 1:5. God is fire and God is light and we are the sons and the daughters of God. We are the sons and daughters of fire…and we are the sons and daughters of light. The father of a goat is a goat and the father of a dog is a dog. The father of a cow is a cow. We get our identity from who gives birth to us. If my father is fire, I am fire. If my father is fire, I can’t be anything less than fire. If my father is light, I am light.
My assignment tonight is to ensure that somebody here is leaving as fire and somebody is leaving here tonight as light. Psalms 104:4. Matthew 5:14. You are not a shadow of your generation, you are the light in your family, you are the light in your community, you are the light in your nation. Say to yourself “I am moving out of here as mobile fire, as mobile light, I am a walking volcano”. If I pass anywhere they would say “Fire passing, light passing”. God who is fire cannot give birth to ice block. God who is fire cannot give birth to shadow, can’t give birth to darkness. Church Gist. You know my excitement, those visions of being fire and light, we found it in one man, John the Baptist, he was a burning and a shining light. He was both burning as fire and shining as light…so your assignment is to burn as fire and shine as light. You burn as fire and you shine as light.
How Do I Burn as Fire?
1. You burn with Holiness and Righteousness.
Fire has no tolerance for chaff. Fire has no patience for rubbish. Malachi 3:2-3. When you carry fire, you can’t carry filth. We burn with fire, we burn with holiness, we burn with uprightness. Church Gist. You can’t carry fire and be a liar and be a cheat and be a thief and be a fraud…and live like a prostitute. The fire in your body and in your life would consume and evaporate any trace of iniquity. Somebody shout Fire…and we need that fire all over the world and we need that fire in South Africa, we want the demons of seduction to be arrested and roasted by fire, we want the demons of immorality to catch fire, we want the demons of incest to catch fire. We want the demons of murder to catch fire. We want the demons of bloodshed to catch fire. We want the demons of criminality to catch fire. Is God speaking to somebody here?
When you carry the fire in you, it burns in you every trace of wickedness. It burns in you every trace of weakness and not just you, your movement now begins to burn things out of the life of others…those who come around you, their bondages are roasted, their weaknesses are set on fire. Church Gist. When they come around you, they are convicted of their compromise, of their lukewarmness, of their lackadaisicness. He burns the wickedness and he burns the weakness.
A weak person may not be a bad person but there is something that is undermining his character. He wants to do the right thing but he does something very bad and he regrets it, he feels very remorseful. A wicked person is someone who enjoys wickedness, he kills for fun, he rapes for fun, he is a wicked person. Church Gist. He literally has satan residing in his life, he celebrates evil and he rebels evil. I know there might be one or more weak people in this place and I’m not sure there is any wicked person here but if you are here, today is the end of that wickedness.
– Everything in your life that is undermining your character today I declare it shall be roasted by fire.
Everything in your life tonight that is not in line with godliness and good character you’re going to make up your mind tonight. Church Gist. So we burn with holiness and righteousness.
2. We burn with zeal and passion for God.
When a man is burning with fire he or she burns with zeal and passion for God like Moses, like Elijah, like Paul the apostle, like Jesus Christ, you burn with zeal and passion. Your spirituality has intrinsic automaticity. Church Gist. Did you hear what I just said? It looks like there is an automatic engine that winds your fasting life, that winds your prayer life, that winds your study of the word.
Any medical doctor would understand the sinoatrial node of the heart, that is the heart of the heart, that is just at the top of the human heart that makes it beat on its own. God forbid! If a heart is removed and dropped on the ground, it will continue to beat for some time…that is because it has something on it, like a brain that makes it beat for 74 to 100 beats per minute. It has something on it that is called a sinoatrial node…medical we say it has intrinsic rhythmicity. It has a rhythm… I’m sorry for blowing your head, you are in a medical class right now. In the same manner, the one that is on fire for God has intrinsic automaticity.
A man who is on fire for God has intrinsic automaticity. Nobody follows you up to pray, nobody wakes you up to pray, the prayer is inside. When a person survives by singing, he is called a singer. A person who practices law is a lawyer, a person who drives for a living is called the driver and a person whose existence is dependent on praying is called a Prayer. Church Gist. You don’t just pray, you’re a prayer in motion. When you pass, somebody feels like praying. There is something about you that is prayerful…spirituality with intrinsic automaticity. You fast like water. You wake up in the morning, you don’t feel like eating even if they kept food for you, you’re not interested because there’s something in you that wants you to spend time with the Lord. You worship like water, there is something that drives your study of the Word. You’re not comfortable putting food in your mouth until you have put the Word in your spirit.
I believe God sent me here because there is somebody who must catch raw fire, that must become a fire for God. Every spirit of lukewarmness, every spirit of spiritual laziness, laziness to pray, laziness to fast, laziness to live for God is set on fire. Church Gist. We had a program in New York City and we did 8 hours in his presence. From morning, we were there nobody moved, 8 solid hours and there was no tea, there was no coffee because in America, you have tea in between services.
One Evangelist Jonathan Shuttlesworth said to me “Keeping Americans in one place for 8 hours without food is equivalent to the miracle of raising the dead”. How many people here are leaving here tonight with a spirituality that has intrinsic automaticity? Church Gist. You are going to pray automatically, you are going to fast automatically, you are going to worship automatically. Everything is happening automatically, nobody is pushing you, nobody is driving you. You are evangelizing automatically. Shout glory!
When you are on fire, you burn with zeal and passion for God like Elijah. 1st Kings 17:1. Exodus 3:2-5.
3. You burn with vengeance and judgment against the enemies of God.
Of what use is a fire that cannot burn things? You burn with a mantle of judgment and Vengeance against the forces of darkness. When you are on fire, you are a nightmare for the devil. You are a nightmare for witches and wizards. You are a nightmare for forces of hell. You are a nightmare for agents of darkness because in most cases your appearance is their disappearance. Church Gist. Elijah, the fire man…and I know it’s only a man of fire that can sit on a chariot of fire and not be burnt. Fire begets fire. Fire fellowships with fire. Fire associates with fire. Fire lives in the realm of fire. That Elijah said, “There shall be no rain in this land unless by my word”. They came to arrest him and he said “If I be a man of God, let the fire fall”…and the fire landed and consumed 50 and a captain, second time 50 and a captain, 102 soldiers were roasted instantly because a man of fire declared. How can you be fire and there is an altar in your father’s house that is limiting your destiny, that is stopping you from getting married, that is stopping you from giving birth to children? How can you be a fire and there is a native doctor, there is a sango man that wants to determine your destiny, that wants to manipulate your life and manipulate your future?
– I stand here with the apostolic and prophetic mantle of fire and I decree that every altar that is fighting your destiny, every altar of your father’s house, every ancient altar, every power from hell that is resisting the plan of God for your life, tonight they are set on fire.
Now What does it Mean to Shine as Light?
4. It means to shine with Revelation and illumination.
Light equals revelation. Light equals illumination. When you are shining as light you are a depot of insight, a reservoir of revelation. People connect to you to know God. Church Gist. Philippians 2:10. Somebody somewhere around your neighborhood, connects to you because they sense light, and they connect to you because they want to know God.
When I was in the university, there was a young man who gave his life to Christ, he was a Muslim before he gave his life to Christ…and then every time I was praying, he would be standing behind me and praying and anything I was doing he would be doing it too. Church Gist. One day I asked him “What are you doing” and then he said, “I am watching how you are doing it, so I can do it how you are doing it.” Smith Wigglesworth said, “The world must be brought to the knowledge of God and it must be done by human instrumentality”. The world is dying for not knowing God and God is releasing people from this generation who know him…so that in case they cannot read the Bible that is written, they can read the Bible that is walking…Bible in motion, Word in motion, revelation in motion.
Do you know what happened to us (my wife and I) in London, England? I have told the story in many places. They were checking us into a hotel in Wembley area…and a young lady at the reception from the North African side of the other religion and looked at me and said “What you have, I want it”. I said, “Did you tell her who we are, what is she saying”? They said, “No we are all just coming she’s just seeing all of us for the first time”. We went to sit on the couch and the checking-in modalities continued. Church Gist. After they finished, we called her, she sat with us. I said please tell me again what did you say? She said, “I don’t know what it is but whatever you have I want it”. I said “I have Jesus in my life, I have the fire of God, I have the power of the Holy Ghost”. She said “Everything you just spoke about I want all of it”.
Just a depot of knowledge, depot of revelation…one of our young men the other day, is doing something that could be considered one of the most outstanding things in that field, in our nation. He was asking me some questions in that field he was asking me about what he was doing. I gave him an answer in his field and he said to me “Excuse me sir, did you prepare for me because everything I asked, you have the answer”? And secondly, you are answering in this field do you know all the field? Church Gist. I said, “Any man that knows God, knows too much”. The knowledge of God can make you an all-rounder. He couldn’t believe it because I was giving him wisdom and strategy in his field. That is ‘light’. Whatever you do, pursue God if you know God you know too much…and I don’t care what you know, if you don’t know God, you are bankrupt of wisdom. Light equals revelation. Shining as light, that is shining with revelation and illumination.
5. You shine in distinction.
Isaiah 60:1. You shine in distinction and there are two departments of this distinction;
5a. The Department of Excellence.
Here, you are the best at what you do. Where your excellence carries evangelistic capacity. You are not talking to people to follow you to Church, you did it better than them so they are forced to follow you. Your excellence is more evangelistic than your utterance. Church Gist. Hallelujah! There are those who are burning as fire but they are not shining in excellence. They can fast for 21 days but they are mediocre in their offices, they are in Church every time the Church doors are open but they go to work late every time. They are bringing insult to God at their place of work. On account of them, people are mocking God, “He calls himself a Christian and he is doing it worse than those who don’t go to church.”
5b. Being different.
Being different to make a difference. They look at you and you are clearly different from the rest. You are clearly different from members of your family and members of your class. Can I go a little bit further, when everybody is compromising in the office, you are different. When everybody decides that dressing naked is fashionable, you say no way I am different. Church Gist. In the early days of a revival in our country, in the early 80s, when a Christian passed, man or woman, you didn’t need anybody to tell you that this is a child of God. There is a presence they carry. There is an anointing upon them. There is a dignity of their appearance that is devoid of seductive appearance. Once they passed you knew, “This is one of the S.U’s. This is one of those Christians” But today, there is no difference between the Church and the world it looks like my badder, the better. How people can appear to nightclubs at times is how they appear to Church now and they say “It doesn’t matter”. They say, “it is not what is on my outside but what is on my inside” but I can tell you that what is on your inside reflects on your outside…because I have not tasted the mango but I can see from the outside that it is ripe inside. Somebody say a loud Amen.
The container is a reflection of the content. I am in South Africa and I am going to preach to you with audacity. Look at your neighbor, say “Be different, to make a difference”. Without any doubt, I see a lot of us dignifiedly dressed but if you look around, chest is opened, everything is tight and pressure everywhere…look at your neighbor and say “I am different, I must make a difference”. You know what I see a revolution coming in southern Africa. I see a different mindset, I see a set of people that would change the narrative in this part of the world. If you are among them, you shout the loudest Amen.
Shine with distinction, don’t be classified with the rest. Don’t be lost in the crowd. Take a stand, even if it means you are standing alone…and until you take a stand, you don’t stand out. In your class, in your family, in the Church, don’t let people decide for you how to live, let God decide for you how to live. Let your convictions decide for you how to live. Church Gist. Someone told me one day that my pocket sleeve was no longer reigning, “You don’t dress(the way I dressed) and put this in the pocket anymore, the time of it has passed”. I told him, “Who determines its reign, if it’s not reigning, I reign it”. If they say it is only the tight dress that is reigning, you don’t need to dress Queenly and royal like that. if it is not reigning, I reign it…and after a while people would begin to follow what you are doing.
6. Finally, you shine with direction.
You shine until you have become a generational direction. Matthew 5:14. You shine until somebody says, “I want to be like you, I want to take your steps”. Until somebody says, “What is your secret”. You live until your presence is felt in your generation because if your presence is not felt, your absence will not be noticed…and if your absence is not noticed, your presence was never needed, you were never needed. If there is not one person in this world who walks up to you and say “Show me something about your spiritual life, tell me how to be more prayerful, tell me how to study the Word, tell me how to pursue God, tell me how to be on fire, tell me how to overcome temptations, tell me how to balance my spirituality with my secular life”. If there is nobody in this world who is coming to ask you questions on how to take steps after your step, in all probability, your life is wasting. It’s an impartless life, a wasted life. Increase your type in the earth “Multiply”. Let people be discipled with your relationship with God. Disciple your world with your relationship with God.
The other day, my daughter was asking me a question, it was a Thursday and she said “Daddy, I am so happy to have you at home on Thursday, this is very strange because after midweek service on Wednesday…Thursday, Friday and Saturday is crusade, this Thursday is unique”. She asked me two questions and I gave her explosive answers. She said “Daddy, I want to let you know that I am not taking this for granted, people are looking for your time and I can just walk in here and ask you question. Thank you for the opportunity of being my Spiritual father and my Physical father”. I was touched, she said “I have more questions” and I said, “bring it on”. Strange questions on Bible study, tell me more about how to enter into the Bible and get more light…so we began to unravel them. There are people, whose wives cannot ask them questions because there is nothing for the wife to ask because of their character. Church Gist. Their children can’t ask them questions because they are the lion of the family. They are not even there for the children to ask questions, absentee father, absentee mother, I want us to change…and I want to speak to every man here, every mother and every father, God is the owner of the children, you are just a caretaker. By the end of your journey, God will ask you, “What did you do to focus those children on eternity, Did you manage them well or did you mis-manage them?” If you are a child and your father did not behave well, or there is no father around you have to make up your mind that what you lacked as a child, your children would never lack.
The things that make us bitter make us better. Those things that hurt, instructs. If you grew up and there was nobody to ask a question, then that should make you have the determination to have a family, father, mother, children, different from what I have lacked. What I couldn’t experience as a child, my children must experience it. Church Gist. The love I was looking for and I couldn’t get, I would pour it on my children. You make a determination…the same with a girl child, don’t reproduce the failures of your previous generation, don’t reproduce the failures of your parents.
Don’t reproduce the lack you had as a child. You may have inherited generational curses but you tell the devil “From behind me, my father and all their lineage, all they gave me is a generational curse, from me forward is generational blessings”. Church Gist. My children shall experience generational blessings, their children shall experience generational blessings and it shall be a lineage of blessed people. I’ve preached to you from my heart, South Africa. There is somebody here, God is looking at you as an arrowhead to change the narrative in your family, in your community.
Let me give you, Two Keys For Burning and for Shining.
John the Baptist was a burning and shining light. What made him to burn like that? What made him shine like that?
A. Reside in God.
John 1:3-6. “He was a man a man sent from God”. Like you say “They sent somebody to me from Johannesburg, they sent somebody to me from Durban, they sent somebody to me from Capetown.” This one was not sent from a physical location, it was from God…that is if you want to find John, look for God. When God becomes your address, you don’t look for fire you are fire. Church Gist. When God becomes your address you don’t look for light, you are light. When you put a 10 inches nail to live with a magnet, the magnet would magnetize it…and when it just remains with that magnet for a long time and then you take it out and bring a needle or an office pin close to that nail, it begins to magnet the pin. Why? Staying with a magnet, it has become magnetic. It begins to exhibit magnetic capacities because it has lived with a magnet. My question is, Where is your dwelling place? Most of us, live permanently in front of the television watching garbage. We live in front of the internet with people that add nothing to our lives. We know all the football clubs and football games, we know everything but we don’t know God.
He was a burning and shining light because he was sent from God not by God. God was his residence. Church Gist. God was his nation, God was his city and God was his country. In case John is missing and you want to find John, go to God and you will find him there.
B. Decide to become His Voice.
He said, “I am not a person, I am a voice”.
When I pass you hear something, my life is a statement, I am a message, I am not just an individual. As I pass you hear a sound, my life is communicating something. You want to be a fire, you want to be a light, Decide to become His Voice. When you are a person, you live for yourself, you live for your own agenda but when you are his voice, you don’t live for yourself, you don’t even live for your own agenda. When you are a voice for God, your decision is buried in His decision. Galatians 2:20.
– Lord I want to live for you now, I want you to be the driver of my actions, the determiner of my moves.
You can wear a dress in front of a mirror and the Holy Ghost will say “This is not for me this is for you, If you have me and the Kingdom in mind you will be more dignified, you will dress in a way that would attract people to the Kingdom, you won’t bring reproach to the Kingdom by your life.” So many things to say tonight but be the man that is from God. If a witch or a wizard can trace you and the only place they can find you is God, Can they kill you? Church Gist…and if you are not living for yourself, you are not permitted to fight for yourself. You are not permitted to defend yourself. The person you are living for fights for you, the person you are living for defends you. If you are not representing yourself, you are not responsible for yourself. The person you represent got you covered.
