Genesis 17:1. The very first time that God introduced himself to man he said, “I am Jehovah Elshaddai, the God who is more than enough.” When they want to put that in English they found that the best to interpret Jehovah Elshaddai is to say, the Almighty God. Church Gist. But Bible scholars tell us that Jehovah Elshaddai actually means God your mother’s breast. The implication of that is that if a woman gives birth to even 4, 5 children at a time, there is enough milk in the breast to feed all of them. After all of them have fed from the milk and they are tired, there will still be milk there. It means that God is simply saying, “whatever all of you need, I can supply and there will still be extra.” Church Gist. This month in particular, I have good news for someone: before this month is over God will bless you. If you’re trusting him for the fruit of the womb, a partner, promotion, joy, he will surprise you!
He is more than sufficient for the barren. It doesn’t matter how old. Genesis 18:9-14. Church Gist. For those of you who are trusting God for the fruit of the womb, my prayer is that your own will not be too difficult for God.
He is more than sufficient for the widow. As a matter of fact when you go through the Scriptures you will find that he has very special interest in widows. Church Gist. 1 Kings 17:8-16; 2 Kings 4:1-7; Luke 7:11-15. So all our widows wherever you are, God will take care of you! The same thing applies to widowers of course.
We want to spend a little bit of time with orphans. There are categories of orphans: the half orphans (those who have just lost one of the parents). When you are like me and you have lost both of them, you are a full orphan. There are orphans that your parents are not dead, it’s just that they said they don’t want you. Parents can forsake completely a child. Church Gist. The Bible tells us that even in that situation, God will still take care of you. Psalm 27:10. There are orphans where the parents are alive, they love you, but they are helpless – they can’t do much for you and there are some of us who know what we are talking about. In a sense, I was an orphan. My parents loved me. I happened to be their last boy. For the first 18 years of my life, I had no pair of shoes. Not that they didn’t want to buy, if you look at their own feet they didn’t have any for themselves. Church Gist. The Almighty God says if you find yourself in that kind of situation (not that your parents are dead, it’s just that they are handicapped), he will help you. He helped me so he will help you. Isaiah 41:17. All of us who are in need for one reason or the other, today God will send you a miracle.
I am sure you remember something that happened way back in 1956. You say, how can I remember? Well I’ll tell you what happened. I was staying with my uncle, my parents are far away and the Uncle himself who was trying to look after me was as poor as anybody could be. Church Gist. But whenever he had any food we shared. So what happens when he has no food? We starved. So there was this occasion there was no food: he was hungry, I was hungrier and there was nothing anybody could do about it. So the 2 of us were just sitting down, watching each other. All of a sudden somebody knocked, came in and there is this young girl carrying a bowl on her head and said to my uncle, “My sister said I should give you this food.” Pounded yam with Chicken stew. My uncle said, “I don’t know your sister.” The girl said, “My sister knows you.” My uncle said, “thank you o. When I have money, I will send you something.” Church Gist. So we got the pounded yam. As soon as the girl turned, we descended on the pounded yam. We were breaking the bones of the chicken when the girl returned and said, “I am sorry o I came to the wrong house.”
– A miracle will come to your house today! Even if it’s not meant for you, in the name that is above every other name, a miracle will come to your house today!
God is enough for the elderly. The greatest problem of the elderly is loneliness. They won’t tell you but that’s the truth. The children have grown and they’ve gone. Some of them have ‘japa’, some didn’t japa to London, they just japa away from home. The older you get, the lonelier the situation becomes. One of the things God told me couple of years ago is that, you just have to get used to this that the older you get, the more of the people who are your friends who will die will be because everybody will go at his own appointed time.” Church Gist. Some people who are younger than you will die and you can’t stop them, they have their own appointed time. But the good news is that: God doesn’t die. Your friends may go but God is still alive. Isaiah 46:3-4 – carries the promise of God. He made another promise in Hebrews 13:5. Those of you who are elders relax. Any time you feel lonely just remember: there is someone by your side who is as close to you as your shadow. Psalms 121:5.
I know what I am talking about: I know when my mother grew old and all my sisters were gone. They had to go, they were married and had to go to their husband’s house. Me, the favourite boy, I’ve grown too so I have to be by my own assignment. So she was in Ilesha in a little house that God built for me in the outskirts. Those days it was far into the bush; just a handful of houses there. Each time I went to see her, she’s so happy and we will sit down and she will tell me things that happened years ago. When I come next time, she will repeat the same thing. So I know she just wanted somebody to talk to. Church Gist. When it is time to leave, I can feel her agony, pain but what can I do? I can’t sit down with her. So I cried to God, “please Lord, help me solve this problem.” Solving the problem (let me tell you the truth) is not getting a house help. There are certain things that you can’t discuss with a house help. When you want to talk, you want to talk to somebody even if you are not the same age at least there is little bit of semblance. Then God answered my prayer in a miraculous way.
What happened? One man just became mad in the neighborhood and just began terrorizing people. So on one occasion this man was chasing a woman. The woman had a baby on her back, another child by the hand. Church Gist. When the woman looked back and saw the mad man closing in, she dropped the one she was holding and escaped with the one she was carrying. The mad man got to that little child, to tell you how mad he was, he took the hand of the child and broke it. That’s how mad.
Then the mad man turned and saw an elderly woman, not very old but fairly elderly and began to pursue that one. That one ran and the only house near by was my house. Church Gist. So she ran into the house where my mother was alone and the mad man stopped. The mad man saw something about that house and decided not to enter.
– From now on, the devil won’t enter your house.
That elderly woman said, “Okay, this is a house where a mad man will not enter. She said to my mum, “please can I come and live here?” Church Gist. That’s how my own problem was solved.
– In God’s own miraculous way, every problem of those of you who are elderly will be solved today!
But when God spoke to Abraham and said, “I am Jehovah Elshaddai,” he said something to Abraham: “walk thou before me.” That tells you one thing straight away. God has a before and a behind. “Walk thou before me” means walk where I can keep my eyes on you. Walk where I can see you. 2 Chronicles 16:9; 1 Peter 5:8. Every morning when we wake up and we want to go about our business, the devil is also awake and he’s looking for food. He will never find you! Church Gist. If you stay where God can see you, he will see the enemy before the enemy can come to you because his eyes are running and the enemy is walking and the one who is running is going to arrive before the one who is walking. But if you refuse to stay where he can see you, you want to stay behind him, then you’re on your own. The reason anybody will not want to walk where God can see him or her is because you have something to hide. If you have nothing to hide from the living God you will say, of course I want to walk before you, I want you to see me. That’s why you hear me crying every time, “be holy” because his eyes will not behold sin. If you think you’re clever and there are things you can do behind locked doors that God cannot see, only one fellow has something to lose – and that will be you. The only people who tremble when they hear that the auditor is coming are people who have something to hide. He said, walk before me and be thou perfect. Church Gist. The Almighty God can see danger far ahead and he knows how to prevent the danger from coming to you provided you are walking where he can see you.
Years ago I was walking in the Camp. The Camp was still more than 95 per cent bush and I love to walk in the foot path, bush, to pray so that nobody will disturb me. I was going about praying, enjoying myself because I was alone with God and all of a sudden, something told me to stop and I stopped. Suddenly I realized this is my normal route. I can see something on the road, it looked like a log of wood. I thought may be somebody came to the bush, cut down some trees and didn’t carry it back to his place. Church Gist. But all of a sudden, it looks as if the wood is moving. When I looked more closely I saw a huge python right across my path and in those days, we saw pythons almost everyday. That jungle was python infested. The moment the thing saw that I have recognized it, it raised up his head to attack. Of course now that I have already seen it, I moved back a little bit and I had no weapon. But as I turned to my right I saw a big rock. That rock was already positioned there by God. I don’t need to tell you the rest of the story. The python died and I am still alive.
– Any danger coming your way, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, God will reveal it and he will give you victory over it!
But are you willing to walk before him? That’s the big question. Church Gist. So those of you who think you’re doing yourself a favour by living in sin, you’re doing yourself a disfavour.
