TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, “CAN A CHRISTIAN PRONOUNCE A CURSE?”

AS A CHILD OF GOD YOU NEED TO KNOW THERE IS A TIME TO BE A LAMB BUT THERE IS ALSO A TIME TO BE A LION.

IT WASN’T THE LAMB IN JESUS THAT WHIPPED THOSE SELLING IN THE TEMPLE AND OVERTURNED THEIR TABLES, IT WAS THE LION

THERE’S A TIME TO BE AS GENTLE AS A DOVE AND THERE’S A TIME TO BE A RESISTOR EVEN OF THE DEVIL.

A STALKER CLAIMED I AM HER HUSBAND AND REFUSED TO STOP. WHEN I DECREED, SHE DIED

THERE IS A TIME TO RAISE THE DEAD BUT WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THERE’S A TIME TO KILL

SOME FOOLS BEGAN TO TALK ABOUT ME USING DEMONIC POWERS. I AM NOT BOTHERED ABOUT THEM BUT THE ONLY THING IS I AM NOT GOING TO BEG GOD TO BE MERCIFUL TO THEM

THERE IS A TIME TO IGNORE A FOOL BUT OCCASIONALLY YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH A FOOL AND DO IT VERY FIRMLY

THERE IS A TIME TO BLESS BUT YOU MUST ALSO REMEMBER THAT THERE IS A TIME TO CURSE

YOU NEED TO PRAY THAT GOD WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN TO BE A LAMB AND WHEN TO BE A LION

  • – Pastor E. A. Adeboye on “FOR WHOM THE HEAVENS OPEN (Part 31)” || RCCG Online Sunday Service || 26th November, 2023 ||

We are now moving to part 31 in our series, “FOR WHOM THE HEAVENS OPEN.” We will be looking at Joshua 6:26-27. We’ve learnt about the danger of ingratitude, that if we are ungrateful we are placing ourselves under a curse. Church Gist. We’ve learnt about the power of gratitude that among other things if we are grateful, God will bless us beyond expectations. We have learnt that our God is a Covenant Keeper and his children must also be covenant keepers and whenever we make a promise we must fulfill the promise.

Today we will come across something very …may be a little bit disturbing. We see Joshua placing a curse on whoever will rise up to rebuild the City of Jericho. As you will find out, the moment he pronounced the curse the City became cursed. Church Gist. It took several years down the line for Elisha to come to Jericho to break this curse. The curse is a very very powerful force. As a matter of fact, you probably have learnt that probably the 2 most powerful forces on Earth will be a curse or a blessing.

  • I’m praying for those of you who are listening to me today that if there is any curse upon you or your family, may the curse be destroyed today!

I said this place is a bit disturbing because it leads us to the question, “Can a Christian pronounce a curse?” We will be digging deep today as we remind ourselves one more time that there is a time for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. As a child of God you need to know there is a time to be a lamb, following the example of the Lord Jesus Christ himself who is of course our number 1 example. John 1:29. Jesus definitely was a lamb. John 10:17-18. Church Gist. But there is also a time to be a lion. Revelation 5:5-6; Matthew 21:12-13. It wasn’t the Lamb that whipped them and overturned their tables, it was the Lion. So there is a time for every Christian to be as gentle as a dove – (Matthew 10:16) but beloved, there is a time to resist even the devil. There’s a time when the Lion in you must roar. James 4:7. So there’s a time to be as gentle as a dove and there’s a time to be a resistor even of the devil.

There is a time to be a worshipper – John 4:23-24. There’s a time when you’re to be in Church, worshipping God, praising him, lifting up your hands to the Almighty God, singing, dancing beautifully but there is a time to be a mountain mover. You dancing just now leading worship, leading the Choir, there’s a time when you’re to be a mountain mover. Church Gist. Mark 11:23; Acts 13:6-12 – Gentle Apostle Paul commanded that the Sorcerer be blind for a season. I’ve always wondered why he added, “for a season” because that fellow would have died blind. Then he moved the mountain out of the way then, the Governor gave his life to Christ. Are we to bless a witch in the Church? Are we to bless someone who is trying to hinder the work of God? I’m not quite sure.

There’s a time to be emotional, gentle, meek, sympathetic. Romans 12:15. I went to comfort one of my sons some years ago, lost his wife years before, remarried and then lost the second wife. Well, went there, encouraged him, etcetera and it was time to go and I was overwhelmed with sorrow and I burst into tears. People began to say, “Daddy, daddy, you shouldn’t be crying.” “Leave me alone!” I told them that Jesus himself cried. There’s a time like that when you feel for somebody who has gone through a major tragedy – you weep – it’s acceptable to weep with those who weep. Church Gist. But there is a time to rebuke – Isaiah 54:17. You must compare Scriptures with Scriptures. There is a time to raise the dead – Acts 9:36-41; but whether you believe it or not, there’s a time to kill. The same Peter in Acts 5:1-11 killed Husband and Wife in one Sunday Service. There are times and times – time to raise the dead and time to kill.

Remember it is written in Matthew 15:13.

  • I decree today, every plant that God has not planted in your life shall be rooted up!

There is a time to kill. Some of you remember the story of one lady who must have been demon possessed who suddenly came and said I am her husband. I said, how can I be your husband? I’m happily married, I’m a preacher. She said, “you’re joking.” I mean she came face to face to my wife and told her, “you won’t let me marry him, I will kill you.” I called her husband, called the family, she wouldn’t yield. We involved the Senior Officer of the Police here to tell her never to come to the Camp here again, she wouldn’t stop. Then I travelled to London – in those days there were no mobile phones. Church Gist. As I was entering the house where I was going to stay, the phone rang and who was on the other end of the line? This same woman. She said, welcome. “Who are you?” She said, “ah ah! You don’t know my voice?” She said, “I’m in the next bus stop, I will soon be with you.” I told her, you come here, the Police will pick you up. Then I turned to God, “God what am I going to do? What is going on? Here is somebody and I didn’t tell anyone I was going to London. How did she know?” The Almighty God said, “as long as you allow the mountain to stay…” Well, I decreed that mountains will move. They brought her back to Nigeria in a coffin.

  • I decree today, every mountain in the life of every child of God listening to me today, the mountain will move!

There is a time to ignore a fool. Proverbs 26:4; Proverbs 26:5. So occasionally you have to deal with a fool and deal with a fool very firmly. You will remember during the last convention that I asked you to pray a prayer when some fools began to talk about me using demonic powers. That if I’m lying, if I’m pretending that God will kill me before the following morning – thank God I’m still here. Church Gist. But someone said, what are we going to do about those people who are making up… I said, I don’t know, we don’t need to bother about them because God knows how to deal with false prophets. The only thing is I am not going to beg God to be merciful to them. I just keep my mouth shut. There is a time to bless. Romans 12:14 but you must also remember that there is a time to curse. 2 Timothy 4:14. You must know that you are a child of the Lamb at the same time, you’re the child of a lion. In you there is a combination – the Lamb and the Lion. What you need to pray about is that God will let you know when to be a lamb and when to be a lion.

You must constantly remember that God is love. 1 John 4:8; also, Hebrews 12:29. So you want to ask the question, “why did Joshua curse Jericho?” … because remember what he said, “this City must never be rebuilt. Anyone who wants to rebuild this City, I curse the fellow.” He was simply saying according to Nahum 1:9, “affliction must not arise a second time.” Church Gist. If you’ve been through serious problems and God brings you out, you reserve the right to decree that the problem will never come again. If someone has caused you a lot of problems, learn to forgive, learn to forget but take precaution that the fellow will never have that opportunity to give you another problem.

I’ve said it: if I have a treasurer who steals my money, I will forgive, I will forget, but he will never be my treasurer again. I think that’s what being wise as a serpent is talking about. You need to remember that it is whatever you allow that will be allowed in Heaven. Church Gist. Matthew 18:18. Do you want another wall of Jericho across your path? Do you want another hindrance to your progress? It’s up to you. If you allow it, it will be allowed. If you reject it, it will be rejected. Proverbs 18:21; Job 22:28.

It told you during the last convention: if you command every sickness, disease to leave your body and you mean it, the sickness, disease will obey. But if you allow it to stay, it’s up to you. I close with this little story: years ago, a man was coughing very badly and we went to pray for him. Church Gist. You know what he said? “Pray that this cough will be going small small.” Why don’t we command this thing to get out of here? – we asked. “Are you the one coughing?” – he asks. “No Sir.” Today you’re going to use the power of your tongue to decree that everything you don’t want in your life be cursed and they get out of you. God will grant your request in Jesus’ name.
