We’ll give you the details at the end of this service in the name of Jesus Christ.
This morning, very very quickly, for a very good cause, time has been taken and we are appreciative of God and within the time that we have, I’ll be looking at the “NECESSITY OF THE WORD OF GOD ”. Church Gist. In this teaching and ministering, our objective is to understand why it is necessary to have the Word in one’s life. Why is it necessary?
Matthew 4:4. What is the meaning of this Scripture, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone’?
- It means that food is not the only requirement for the sustenance of life. Physical food is not the only requirement for the sustenance of man’s life. Church Gist m Food is not the only thing that can sustain the life of man.
- Food alone is not enough to sustain the life of man. Sounds alike but it’s slightly different.
- There’s more to life than food. Those who hang only on food do themselves disservice. Church Gist. Those who hang only on food are limited on earth.
Having said that, why is the Word of God necessary? I’ve said it already but I’ll repeat it.
- The Word of God is necessary for the sustenance of life because the Word of God is called the Word of Life. John 6:63. Philippians 2:16. Proverbs 4:20-22. The Word of God is life to those who find the Word. 1 John 1:1-2. The Word of God is the Word of life. Church Gist. Why do we need the Word of life now? We need it because of the plague of death. We live in a generation today with an epidemic of the plague of death. Romans 8:1-2. There’s a law of sin and a law of death that is at work on the earth today.
In the United Kingdom, a man called me on the phone, the details of the call, I’ll not go into now but you’ll get to know later. This man told me and he said, “Pastor, thank you because God has made you both a spiritual physician and also a physician or rather in the place of healing”. Church Gist. He said, there’s a plague on the earth. He mentioned a powerful man in America, O. J. Simpson, he said he just passed. And then he mentioned several others. In a family, very powerful people, 3 in one family all plagued with terminal disease. He said to me, he said these people have power, they have the influence, they have the money but they couldn’t help their lives. They have the power, the money, the influence and access to the best. Church Gist. This plague and the devil knows that he has but a short time so, he’s doing a lot of overtime on the earth even with afflictions we never heard of before. Church Gist. You need a diet of the Word, you need to be hooked on Word, you need to be hooked continually on the Word.
- I speak to somebody here today, every plague of the spirit of death in your life, I declare it is cursed to its root!
- The Word of God is necessary for the buildup of hope.
We live in a world again today where hope is in scarce supply. It’s as if everything is designed to cause men to lose hope. Church Gist. A man from America testified just now how he lost five jobs in a row, marriage lost, attempted suicide five times. That is what happens at the peak of hopelessness.
In the United Kingdom this weekend, I met with a woman and her husband, this woman received us at the Airport in the UK many years ago, very executive reception. Church Gist. They received us and all of that only to hear that she lost the job and that job, plenty of them lost the airline job during the Covid lockdown and we had several people like that in our country today. Losing job today is not the issue, it’s getting job that is the issue. There’s everything that is designed. 2 Timothy 3:1. Church Gist. That means times that will make people’s hope to shake but in a world like this, the oxygen of the soul is the Word of God. Psalm 119:49. The Word gives me hope. I am not hopeless. I am not despair because the World gives me hope. Psalm 119:89. There are many of the verses in Psalm 119. Psalm 119:81,114,116. “I will hope in you and I’ll not be ashamed of my hope”. This is a direct Word for somebody here. People, you have looked up to God and you are wondering, ‘will I be ashamed of my hope in God? Will I be ashamed of my faith in God? Will I be ashamed of my confidence in God?’ Church Gist. I am anointed to announce to you, in the name of Jesus, you’ll not be ashamed of your hope!
Psalm 130:5. I permanently place my self on a continuous flow of Word, preached Word, Word on audio, Word just on a continuous basis and it has sustained both my hope and my faith. Church Gist. I will talk about faith in the second service. If you’re not Wordless, you can’t be hopeless. It is not possible to be hopeless under any condition if you’re not Wordless and you can never be hopeful if you’re not Worded. The Word is necessary for the buildup of hope.
- The Word is necessary for the arrest of fear.
That is another dimension. One of the greatest challenges of the endtime is fear. Because things will be happening that will make the heart of men to quake. Luke 21:26. Church Gist. Iran struck Israel and if Israel say, ‘I will retaliate back’, those who know how to calculate may calculate that people may start to take sides. Russia say, I will stand on this side. China say, I will stand on this side. America say, I will stand on this side. Britain say, I will stand on this side. All the calculations is leading to cataclysmic disasters. Cataclysm. What is the thing that can stabilize your heart in the face of any kind of news is Word. Psalm 46:1-4. Church Gist. That river is the Holy Ghost, that water is also the Word. Hallelujah! If you don’t have Word, you can’t escape fear no matter how strong hearted you are. Genesis 15:1. Fear not! Psalm 56:4. The arrival of the Word is the suffocation of fear. Church Gist. The concentration of the Word in the life of a person is the suffocation of fear. The absence of the Word is the absence of fear.
Many years ago, somebody came to me in the Area One Church, ‘hey! There’s news everywhere that they want to pull down the Church. They’re demolishing everywhere and they said this one is to be demolished”. Church Gist. He was shaking, he was genuinely concerned. And I looked at him and said, ‘ calm down. Two things I want you to know. One, all the devils in hell, not one of them can take a block down from this structure. Two, Jesus said, ‘no man taketh my life from me, I have the power to lay it down and the power to take it up’. Church Gist. To me, it means, nobody shall take down the structure for us, if it is time for it to come down, we will do it ourselves. Go to rest’. At that time, the newspaper already carried it because a lot of demolitions were going on. That fear just punctured it. Somebody came to me another time, “oh. Something something presidency”, that was the past regime, some bitter people were talking some things about what they’ll do for themselves and the sister was working within the quarters of the highest power at that particular time. Church Gist. “Calm down! No devil is demonic or devilish enough to tamper with what we do. It’s not water that is on the head, it’s oil, fire!” You see, you need that Word to be equal to every urgency.
One Pastor came trepidatiously, he ran, I think he saw a revelation. “Hey! Sir, I just came to just inform you that in the Kingdom of darkness, they have taken notice of what you’re doing. The Queen of the Coast”, he was mentioning those things, “they have taken notice and they have decided to take the matter seriously”. I looked at him, I laughed. Church Gist. I said, “if they don’t take notice, I’ll be shocked”. If they didn’t notice that we went to Kaduna, went to the United Kingdom, that we went to Zambia and a witch was flying and dropped on the ground. If they don’t notice it, it is an insult. It means we’re doing nothing with our lives. If we’re doing something significant, they have to notice it. “Forever oh God, thy Word is settled”. Church Gist. When you take in the settled Word, the settled Word settles you in an unsettled world. Psalm 119:89. There are many who have not settled because the settled Word have not settled in them. Nobody’s negative yeye dream will make any meaning, even your own dream will not make any sense to you if it is not in line with the Word. Church Gist. You need the Word to suffocate fear, to suffocate threats and terror.
- you’ll not be wasted before your time!
- The Word of God is necessary for the arrest of confusion and the provision of direction.
Another tragedy of life is the tragedy of confusion. Church Gist. The Bible said there are many voices in the world and none of them is without signification. 1 Corinthians 4:10. Many voices in the world looking for your attention. There are many ways. Jeremiah 6:16. When you’re Worded, you’re guided. 1 Corinthians 4:10. Diverse voices talking to you. “Go to Canada, go to America, stay in Nigeria. Marry this one, marry that one. Enter this business. This one is the better business, that one is the better business”. ‘Which one do I follow?’ the voice of direction. Psalm 119:105. ‘Your Word gives me direction, illumination and guidance’. Psalm 119:130. That is, ‘I am in confusion, I need understanding’. Church Gist. The ‘simple’ there implies the ignorant. It giveth understanding to the ignorant. ‘I am at the junction of decision, how do I move?’ Stand in the ways.
- somebody say a loud Amen.
Isaiah 9:8. It brings light, it brings illumination. You see, if your life is guided by the principles of the Word, almost 99 percent of your decisions are already made. Church Gist. The spirit of God that is the spirit of the Word inside you will always react when you’re on the wrong path, when you’re making a wrong decision, when they’re asking you to do some business things that are not in line with Word, you react against it.

- I announce to somebody here, going forward, direction, guidance shall be easy for you!
I told you the story before, my spiritual journey did not come… Some people, when they got born again today, they started praying in tongues, they started seeing vision. My own was not like that. Church Gist. I saw nothing. If you use cellotape to close my eyes for one hour or two hours, I’ll see nothing other than darkness. Until I felt that other people are better than me, other people knew more than me, other people had more advantage than me. Church Gist. Now, what I’m about to say, I want you take it very seriously. But as I was not having any of such external vision or things, I decided to settle on the Word. I fed on the Word so tey when it was time to find out who to marry, one blow, seven dies, hit without missing. I didn’t branches, 1,2,3, I pass here, no way, the only person I spoke to concerning marriage is the one I’m married to for life. Church Gist. When it was time for ministry, I knew of ours, when he was to start, he went somewhere, that wasn’t the place, he went to another place, that wasn’t the place. He went to three places to attempt to start. Where God led me to, this place, that was it. Church Gist. I didn’t branch two places. That is what the Word can do to you.
Psalm 29:3. Do you want to hear the voice of the Lord? Drink the water. What is the water? The Word. Ephesians 5:26. Church Gist. Be stuffed up on the water. Let me speak Nigerian English, from on top of the water, voice will come that will sound like this same Word that you have been reading, “No, don’t do this. no this is not correct”. There are even inaudible directions, you didn’t hear, you didn’t see, you just know that this is not what to do and this is what to do, this is where to go and this is where not to go. Otherwise, you’ll be overwhelmed. Church Gist. The options in this life are plenty, options are multiple. In order not to be a victim of the wrong option or the wrong choice, you need the Word.
- somebody lift up your voice and say, “Father, we know now that the Word is necessary for my life. I receive the grace to camp with the Word in Jesus’ name”.
I have four more but I’ll speak on that in the second service. This is the conclusion. I’d like you to take note of all I’m about to say.
- The Word of God is a necessity for quality, meaningful, purposeful and durable life. Life that has quality, that is not management life. Church Gist. Life that is meaningful, that is not a meaningless life where you’re saying, ‘what is this life all about?’ Life that is purposeful, that is, life that is directed not beating about the bush, that has direction. Life that is durable that is not cut short by any witch or any wizard, it’s not cut short by the forces of wickedness. Church Gist. That kind of life, if you need it, you need the Word. Why? Jesus is the Word and he said in John 10:10. Hallelujah!
- The Word of God must be exalted even above physical food in the life of man. It must be exalted, it must be given such a place. Church Gist. Is that not too extreme? No, that is what Job said, the successful Job. Job 23:12. One of my children was given, I think, snack by the sibling and that one said, “no. I can’t eat now”. “Why?” “I haven’t studied the Bible yet”. Almost all of us feel guilty to put food in the mouth if we have not put Word in the spirit. Are you hearing what I’m saying here today? F. F. Bosworth who wrote Christ the Healer, the book that is almost a hundred years old, an all time classic. Church Gist. He said, many people are wondering why they don’t have faith for divine health when they put three hot meals in their body everyday and one cold snack in their spirit once a week. Hot food. They put hot food, breakfast, lunch. Church Gist. In fact, those who fast, they ask their wife to bring all the food that they didn’t eat but they come for snack on Sunday morning and after the snack, that’s all throughout the week. No Sir, don’t do yourself such a disservice.
- it’s a new day and I believe someone has been blessed!
- has God spoken to somebody? Are you the one that God spoke to?
- if you’re not a doubter and you believe that fear is gone, stand on your feet and shout a loud Amen!
