21 January 1981: At 39, Dr Enoch Adeboye is appointed and announced as Reverend and General Superintendent of the 29 year old Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at Ebute Meta in Lagos, Nigeria about 3 months after the passing of the founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi. The RCCG had 38 parishes including one in Ghana on his assumption of office.

Dr Adeboye immediately opted for a change of title of Reverend to Pastor and from General Superintendent to General Overseer among other changes.

Today, the RCCG has over 45,000 parishes globally and is the largest church institution established in Africa.
